The AP United States History free-response questions are tough! Students have a lot of anxiety about these questions, but they don’t need to. In this video, AP expert John Moscatiello breaks down a sample document-based question (DBQ) for the AP U.S. History exam and shows you how to tackle it.

Is it just me or does this room give major chill vibes, like I wish I could take my test in there.
Thanks! Good luck on your test, Nathan!
I really appreciate this since I could not find a video where someone actually attempts it.
Check out our newest walk-through videos for APUSH, which do the same thing for this year’s exams
this would be such a fire dbq to get 😞
Fr bro I'm probably gonna get a prompt of some obscure period that I don't even remember
You made it seem so easy lol, like i see my prompt, then i look at the documents, then I dont know where to start lol
This video is absolutely incredible. Somehow I currently manage to have 108% in my APUSH class yet I’m unable to derive the format of a DBQ from my teacher or Heimler’s History, which everyone recommends. Again, THANK YOU!
Thank you!
Same i have a 95 in there and I can't write a dbq
My test is tommorow 😬
Lucky you don’t have an insanely hard teacher. My teacher writes his own tests and they are stupidly hard. Average an 80 even if I study
Update: I got a 4 on the test 😂👍
Thank you so much for doing an actual dbq!!! This video really helped me since my apush teacher only made us do one dbq assignment and she did not even graded it.
Goodluck to those like me who are going to take the ap exam this Wednesday!!
Good luck, Natalia!
Could you make a video about the 2020 DBQ About how to organize the time because we only have 45 minutes to do it
We are working on updated videos. Stay tuned!
I’m currently in AP World history, but this was helpful. I hope your channel grows!
this helped me so much during the ap world exam, it actually helps!!!
This is a very helpful video thank you this is helping a lot with the DBQ
Taking my APUSH exam tomorrow and we've done one DBQ this year pray for me!!
Lol I have mine in maybe 3 hours good luck
You got this!
Wow, how are you able to write and think so fast even while explaining?
Lots of practice, especially at talking! Thanks for watching!
This is really helpful as not a lot of videos show HOW to write a good DBQ. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!

hello Marcolearning
With our district going to virtual teaching in light of COVID-19, I will be using this lesson for my APUSH students. Thanks a get deal.
Watching this a few hours before the APUSH exam. I can say with a 95% confidence that I am thoroughly screwed. Hopefully this video can save me.
Results?
Awesome, needs more views
This is very helpful thank you so much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
The way how you sourced the document for audience at 29:10 made it look like rhetorical analysis.
It is a lot like rhetorical analysis.
Do you have your essay response we could download to use as an example
THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO THANK U
Glad you liked it! Check out our APUSH playlist for more recent DBQ walkthrough videos.

THANK U
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. I really am struggling on the DBQ. I think maybe my lines of reasoning weren't specific enough, which makes the whole essay go downhill.
Happy to help bro
It takes me a long time to get through the documents, any tips?
thank you so much omg!!!
Thanks for watching! Good luck on your exam
phenomenal video
Thanks for watching!
@@MarcoLearning no problem, it’s so hard to find a video really guiding someone through the dbq like yours did, i have an apwh exam tomorrow and this really helped me visualize the dbq better and learn how to transition in the essay more effectively. thank you
On the dbq, do I have to argue with 6 documents (and not necessarily describe them but use their content) for 2 points?
Yes just describe 3 but argue with 6
Do you have walk throughs like this for AP Lit essays?
Yes! Check out our playlist for AP Lit. We did walkthroughs of the prose fiction analysis essays
I'll just get a 1 on the test lol
What do you mean by an outside source? Like prior knowledge?
He means evidence beyond the documents or not given in the documents. For example, the civil rights act of 1875, similarly to the amendments, was an attempt by the US gov to guarantee equal accommodations (equality) to African Americans in public places. This would be evidence not found in the documents but “outside evidence” which you came up with which is relevant to your argument. If you define and use this evidence to support your argument, you can earn the point for outside evidence.
i dont get where the 3rd sourced document was
Okay so you have to use 6 documents to support ur agument but what does sourcing 3 doxuments mean
Ik it’s too late but for the three documents you just have to explain it like the acronym HIPPO Historical context intended audience point of view and purpose
@@delinaberhane1963 do you have to list them?
Anyone know where I can find content from the past exams? (like the one used in the video). I know for the SAT there's plenty of previous tests on places like Reddit and was wondering if APUSH had something similar
Check out our free practice test for APUSH: marcolearning.com/free-practice-tests
I almost never read the documents I just scan the name and the date and remember the significance of it and somehow get good DBQ scores lol
me watching this video while writing my dbq
