A smart little mod, adding BWACK's C64Saver module. I know he's been a very busy boy recently and has stopped making the newer version C64Saver for the time being, but I have reached out to him regarding the original prototype design that you use in the video. I've been thinking recently that I would like to make these myself, as well. I'll see what he says and keep you posted.
Thanks =D Yes, his little boards are awesome and could be used in many place imo. I want another one for the CPC I think, and a couple of Lynxes and GameGears (to fit internally).
I have memories of one of these also. When I was a lad I had the green screen monitor. I heard this was being released so I went into Tandy and ordered one. I waited 3 months with a no show, so I got my money back. I never got one in the end.
Nice refurb Chris, that PSU is as good as new. Brilliant idea using one of bwack's power saver boards inside the PSU, you should put one of them inside the CPC as well it will be bulletproof then.
I thought there would be a bit more technology in there but it seems to do the trick. I'd like to get hold of bwacks power saver it's a good piece of kit and protects your retro machines. Nice vid Chris 😁😋🙂........Kim 😋
Nice. Hopefully Bwack will make some more of those gizmos soon. I would definitely buy a few. I nearly got caught out on a cpc128 when using it with a TV. It needs a 5v for the cpc and a separate 12v jack for the integral disc drive which it is supposed to get from the monitor. The centre pin on the 5v is positive but the centre pin of the 12v is negative ! Just something to watch out for. I modded the cable to make it impossible to back-volt it accidentally and stuck a sticker on the cable!
Thx =D Yes, they are great little boards! I hope he can sell just the PCB for other applications like this. Ouch at that disk drive PSU connector - that's one reason why I think I might stick a saver PCB inside the CPC as well, just in case I accidentally grab the wrong connector and think its 5v...
I had the MP1 Modulator im sure ive still got the original box somewhere, used it for playing Amstrad on my CRT TV years ago as i did not have the monitor for a while
I cant remember if my MP1 handled sound as well, but I could understand why Amstrad wouldnt want to feed the audio through the RF line, introducing noise to the picture, not when the cpc has an onboard speaker anyway. Makes sense to me.
GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods I am honored you watch.. I need to again thank Vectrex Rolli in that 😋. My ULTRA Amiga video I think.. and thank you for enjoying them.. makes it worth while 😊😊😊
I always hated RF even bitd it seemed thoroughly terrible, other than having no AV-In to speak of on early TVs it never made much sense going forward with all the devices that came up in the 80s. At least coaxial was easier than screw forks. Pretty scary how the old PSU can take out a whole system, is that all of them, NTSC regions included?
Yeah, RF was always pants lol =D I am not sure if there was an NTSC Amstrad CPC? There may be? The main issue is the CPC doesn't have a regulator or any over voltage protection (and I think no reverse polarity protection either). I will do both of these fixes to the CPC too I think - just in case the wrong PSU is connected.
Oh my mistake, I must have been thinking of the C64 PSU. Yeah no NTSC CPC model, probably would have been incompatible with the EU software anyway heh.

I like how you apply Hans' design to stuff he may not have thought about.
Hehe, yeah - it's ideally suited to many things I think =D
"Daran habe ich gar nicht gedacht!"

Well you weren't missing much back then as RF was pants lol.
GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods it would of been better than a green screen monitor tho. Hahahah
The same with me

Thanks =D I plan on sticking one in the CPC too I think. Just need to hope bwack can provide a few more!

Thanks =D Yes, those little PCBs bwack creates are awesome!
Nice job. When are you fixing the toaster, looking forward to that.
Thanks :o)

I had the rf modulator back in the day, a mate had the green screen monitor which was a bit pants tbh.

I will take a look inside the modulator can tomorrow, there might be a few caps in there that I missed. Will update a short update if I do.
Nice MoD issue Fluke 77 !.
Brasso works wonders on plug pins!
Great idea for plug pins =D
I have you now in the credits my friend
Thanks mate - very very much appreciated! Will give your channel a shout soon!
GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods .. Negan and I very much enjoy your channel 😎😉
=D I love your channel too - I need to catch up when I get a min over next few days. I missed an arcade video you did the other day I think.

could you mod this for composite rather then rf
Yes, that would be possible! Just a case of working out where the composite signal is, perhaps amplify it with a 2N3904 and it should work!
Modulator does not handle sound. Sound will come from the CPC internal speaker as normally.
Wow, surprised Amstrad didn't do that! But then again, I guess the original design was for the speaker to provide the sound.

"Sweet!" - GadgetUK164 2018
Modulator looks a bit of a messy output, wonder if that needs recapping, not that you care xD
LOL - that was AFTER recapping! I recapped the modulator! Although, there might be a cap inside the can I guess.
Yeah that's what I meant, the caps inside the can xD
I will inspect tomorrow =D I will admit, I totally overlooked it!
Hehe fair xD Interested to hear the outcome :)
There’s definitely a cap inside the modulator can in the c64.
What is this?
I came for the refrigerator mod here :-/
LOL!
Seems that Gadget isn't going to live that down anytime soon. lol
All gone for £50, huh? Lol!!
:o)
She would be gone if that had happened lol =D
Charge pump
What the hell is this garbage? I want washing machines!
LOL!
