I’m looking for a brand new beginner guitar and I’m a short woman with small hands and sensitive skin. Do you think this would be the right starter for me??
I have a Yamaha classic acoustic guitar that is like a c40 that my parents bought 40 years ago when I was a kid that we still play. They are good guitars.
I’ve been considering buying this guitar for a while, and stumbled upon this video while looking for reviews. All I’ve heard is positive things, which is great! I’m from Portugal and here we have these musical groups formed by students in university, where we play a more traditional type of music. Used to be a way for students to make money, but now it’s just for fun and to keep traditions alive! I’ve been a part of one of these groups since May and I play classical guitar with them. I’ve always been an acoustic player but for the past few months I’ve absolutely loved playing classical. So I wanted to buy one of my own, to practice at home and such! Thanks for this review, it certainly helped me solidify my opinion on the C40 😄
Nylon string guitar is at its best when played with finger-style classical technique. The music you want to play doesn't have to be classical. There are many pop music arranged effectively for classical style playing, e.g. Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley), Michelle, Yesterday (many other Beatles), Street of London (McTell), Fly Me to the Moon, House of the Rising Sun, Take Five, Autumn Leaves, Misty, Melodia de uma noite, Manha de Carnaval, etc. They all sound very beautifully on nylon string guitars played with classical technique. They are all within Grade 6 level. Many jazz compositions have been arranged for this technique as well. Bossa Nova and Rumba grow in the classical guitar environment. Another good reason for buying C40 is not just because it is cheap, but because it is well made and sounds very sweet. It is easily tuned and has consistent intonation and tone color. Therefore, it is easy and enjoyable to play as it sings well. Well balanced between bass and treble. It is not loud, so it is suitable for playing at home, especially at night. Yamaha makes their expensive and cheap ranges the same way. Hint: If you string C40 with Aquila Sugar, it sounds like a thousand-dollar guitar.
This is for anyone who is trying to compare to other guitars. About a month ago i got into flamenco spanish music and i just fell in love with it. Since then i wanted to buy a flamenco guitar but with research you find out that they cost about €400 plus for a cheapest flamenco guitar. Then you find out that its not all lost and that classical guitars can play flamenco. And so i researched for hours all types of classical guitars ranging from a cheap aria for €100 to the €200 yamaha c80. Yes ive researched all types and variations of classical guitars between that price range and let me tell you that there are alot. At the start i over looked the yamaha c40 and went for the yamaha c80. I think it just got over shadowed by the newer version. Then when i was ready to get the c80 i just wanted to make sure before spending so much money on a guitar and kept listening for hours the sounds of these guitars and i came across c40 vs c80 video and the conclusion is this, i dont think youll get a good flamenco sound on the c80. It sounds lighter, almost like an acoustic guitar. The deep sound of the c40 just sounds much better to my ears for flamenco and spanish styles. With hours of research the conclusion is get a c40. All other variations of classical guitars below €200 will disappoint you. Dont waste time, my yamaha c40 is coming tomorrow! Buy d'addario EJ45 normal tension strings with them. For the price of €150 you will have a good guitar with good strings you can learn on. In the future if you want then dish out another €500 for a good flamenco guitar then go for it, but the yamaha c40 will give you a good sound, possibly better than some dearer guitars that cost around the price of €400. Tis be my conclusion with many time spent on research, get a yamaha c40.

@@lemmetellusum4884 Yes, what i wrote is just the case if youre on low budget. Out of all classical guitars c40 under the price 200 is no doubt the best. BUT, dont expect it to play like a 500 guitar. There are even more options with the price range from 200-500 and its hard to find something that will suit your tastes. For example people say the Cordoba c3 and c5 are good but thats because they are sponsored and are paid to make the video saying theyre good. But something like an alahambra 3c sounds so much better than the 2. Its just personal preference at the point of 300-500 guitars price range. There are many good options but you must first like the sound of the guitar or you will stop playing and wont be motivated.

Thank you so much for the best video about C40! I want to play Irish folk and pop music on it and you showed that it could be great. I have sensitive skin so I do not want to go with acoustic guitar and its steel strings and I saw in this video that C40 would be great. Maybe I will still go to acoustic guitar F310 like I see on your wall but I will definitely start with C40 and I thank you for that. Also there is official Yamaha shop in my town, Tbilisi, Georgia so I can go and physically tough the guitar before buying it which is great. Thank you so much! Good luck!
Have you considered playing it the way right handed people do? This would put your dominant (left) hand on the frets? I am left handed, but this is the way I play.

The Yamaha C40II uses meranti wood while the Yamaha C40 uses mehagony (according to Amazon, as of today). I love the warmth of mahagony, but I have not heard one of the meranti guitars. I would try to find some recordings and compare. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching and commenting!

Hi thanks for the video! I have a question on not having nails and classical guitar. It appears you have no nail playing technique but I'm not sure. What classical guitar and strings would you recommend for no nails classical guitar? I tried playing before and couldn't get any volume out of the strings compared to a cheap steel string. Please let me know your thoughts and opinion. Thank you! I'll sub now 😁
Thank you for subbing! I usually do not use my nails. The corner of my nails may brush the strings but I do not try to use my nails. The Yamaha C40 can get pretty loud, but metal string guitars will usually be louder because of the tension on the strings and the materials. If you do want a nylon string guitar, the C40 is an EXCELLENT guitar for the price. I hope that helps.

Hey Bakkou Farel, I have not played the C80, but I have heard recordings, and I think I like the C80's tone a little bit more. I would imagine they both feel about the same. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I really want to play the normal pop songs, like let her go by passenger, those type of songs, my budget is somewhere around 150, is this a good duitar for me then? else can you please give me some other good guitars.
Nylon strings do not have gauge sizes. You can buy medium or hard tension. Gauges are for steel string guitars. Just use the strings that come with the guitar.
Can you make another video on this guitar which solely consists of accoustic music. As this guitar though being classical delivers beautiful and clear accoustic music.
The C40M is made from Meranti wood (sides and back) and has a more natural finish. Its tone is very similar to the C40 (just not quite as warm sounding in my opinion). I have never played the C40M, but I have heard recordings of it. I have never heard of the C45. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Yamaha c40 or epiphone pro1 classic??? Help!!
Please
How would you compare it to the CX40?
Wow. You make such a budget guitar sound really good
Great video! Keep up the good work.
I wanted to ask if Yamaha c40ii is as good as Yamaha c40
They are very similar from the recordings that I have heard, but I have not played the c40ii. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Is that solid top?
Hi, this is my first quitar, and I find difficult go play bar chords. Is this because the action is to high? Thank you!
i prefer acoustic guitar because of sound but for beginner more easy to play on classic guitar. what i should do from your experience?
The 6th Reason is that the strings are nylon so there is no finger pain at all - therefore you won't quit!
Good luck!
I would play like gypsy jazz is that good ?
I know I'm late. I just want to ask, how good is this guitar to play commercial songs or "beach" songs?
Is this different from the C40ii?
How about the wood speciation?
hi ihave been considering this but i am worried about action and intonation since it doesnt have truss rod . how to adjust that ?
I have never had any problems with mine or my students’ guitars. Thank you for watching and commenting!
this was a great choice for me! a metal guitarist wanting to try new things
Fender CN-60S ?
It doesn't have truss rod.. Does this matter?
sir I am laft hander so can i change string sequence and use as laft hander yamaha c40 ?????
You would have to reverse the bridge saddle...I am not sure if it is glued down or not on your guitar.
Have you considered playing it the way right handed people do? This would put your dominant (left) hand on the frets? I am left handed, but this is the way I play.
Hi. Is there any major difference between the original C40 and the C40 mate or C40 black?
I think it is just the color that is different. Here are the specs for each: m.thomannmusic.com/yamaha_c40_bl.htm
m.thomannmusic.com/yamaha_c40_konzertgitarre.htm
Yamaha C40M buzzs if plucking the 5, 6th fairy strong wity left fingers pressing the 3rd fret.
I am a beginner and I'm thinking of getting this. Do you think it is possible for me to change it to steel strings after i get used to playing it with nylon?
No, it is designed for nylon strings only. Thank you for watching and commenting!
The guitar will be damaged. Steel strings have higher tension
Sir can i know is C40 better Or C40//02?As I have been playing acoustic guitar since last 5 years and now I wanna switch to a good classical guitar
The Yamaha C40II uses meranti wood while the Yamaha C40 uses mehagony (according to Amazon, as of today).
I love the warmth of mahagony, but I have not heard one of the meranti guitars.
I would try to find some recordings and compare.
I hope that helps!

cordoba 3cm or yamaha c40?
Can i fit equalizer in c40?
Hi man, what’s the soft jazz music you play? Really like it. Thanks.
what about c70 ??
Hi! would you recommend the C40 or C40II? Should they cost the same? Thanks!
I have not played the C40II, but from the recordings I have heard they sound very similar. I hope that it holds up as well as the C40 has for me.
Can I swap it to lefty or will I have difficulty
I think you should be able to do it! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I bought one to play samba, chorinho, mpb and other brazilian genres.
That's what I'm doing, I want to play Cartola!

Thank you! I want to ask which one is better for Pre-begginer C40 or C-40M? Thanks a lot
I have never heard the C-40 M, but here is a comparison page:productz.com/en/yamaha-c40-acoustic-guitar-vs-yamaha-c40m-acoustic-guitar

They both sound very good for the price. I think I like the C40 better.
M is the matt version. No difference. Just cosmetic difference
hi, what strings are you using on that guitar?
I think I was using the D'Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte Classical Guitar Strings. Thank you for watching and commenting!
The sound is still not there bun it looks beautiful and indeed affordable. Btw I recommend you including Amz Canada affiliate links as well for those who live in Canada and often youtube links from vloggers for item at US amz look as unavailable.
Q: could you make a video about types of strings for guitars and would the one you recommended be good for a concert uke as well? You can also make s video with tips on restringing the guitars.
Sir Yamaha c40 c70 and c80 which one I should buy as I'm an intermediate classical guitar player
I have only played the C40. I have heard the C80. I know nothing about the C70.
It is hard for me to advise you. I like the sound of the C80 a lot, but I have not heard it live, just on recordings.
The C40 does such a great job for a very low price!
Can you find one of each in a music store near you? That is the best way to know.
I hope that helped! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I wanna play flamenco music on it , can i?

I don't have much experience with Flamenco guitar, so I am not sure. It has a great, full tone though! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hi
I really want to know which one is better to start with, c40 or c45
Actually, I'm not even sure if there is a big difference between them
I have never heard the C45. If I can find a recording of it, I will send you the link!

@@5MinuteMusic in paper they are the same, but it seems tge c40 is mostly sold out, with the c45 being sort of a replacement model
Hi, Yamaha C40 Vs C390 which one recommended for sound? Please let me know. Thank you. Cheers.
I don't have any experience with the C390.
I don't think the C390 is in production anymore so you would have to find a used one. I hope that helps.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I wanna buy this guitar and im not looking to change the guitar i’ll buy it do you advice me to buy this guitar or find sth has more quality than this?
dull bass..what is the price point?
Yamaha c40 vs yamaha f310. Which 1 best for jazz
F310, always.
Can we play most of the songs of Billie eilish on this guitar??? Like your power and tv
my mother got me my first yamaha C40 back on 1996 and i still have it today on 2020 I dont play it anymore because i have way better guitars and is getting really old, but the sentimental value that my C40 has for me is priceless.
By the years of having c40, does it develope or improve its sounds because of its type of wood?
hello, thank you for the information. is the c45//02 newer than c40 and which one would you recommend to buy?
I don't know anything about the c45, or if it is still in production. You can find it used though.
I can't tell you which I would prefer, but I might lean towards getting the C40 new so I could return it if something went wrong.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
classical , jazz , folk , pop , and any kind of music man 🔥🤍
Is this good for Bolero?
If you are talking about Ravel's Bolero, I would say yes!
@@5MinuteMusic das ist ein Musikartig, der nutzen viel Basse-noten
@@ngonphaminh4515 Are you worried about the notes being too low for the guitar? The lowest note on the guitar (in standard tuning) is E (the second E below middle C). You would have to make sure the arrangement was written for guitar.
@@5MinuteMusic thanks your help. I still play this art on guitar
Maybe he want to ask: C40's bass sound is good for this

What mic do you use?
For this video I used a BLUE Snowball iCE. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I own this model since 2000 because it was the model for beginner at my school. But I never really into it as I wanted to play rock so I got bored and stop trying to learned as a teen. I felt like unable to play unplugged nirvana or the offspring and well.... I gave up...it was a big loss of money for my parents. But maybe I would give it a try. I have tiny hands and felt hard to do chords on the large fret...
Is this model suitable for 30 yrs old guy?
@@5MinuteMusic thank you it does help!
@@ice4659 Great! My pleasure!
I play classical and Brazilian guitar, which are perfect with this guitar.
Thank u so much ! I bought this guitar and I wonder if u can help me , the A string is the 3rd one from above not the 2nd as the lessons I saw 🥺💔
The strings are in this order from highest pitch (thinnest string) to the lowest pitch (thickest string): e, b, g, D, A, E. Thank you for watching and commenting!
What’s batter c40 or c80 ?
Hey Bakkou Farel, I have not played the C80, but I have heard recordings, and I think I like the C80's tone a little bit more. I would imagine they both feel about the same.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I just like the sound of nylon string guitars better than steel strings. But i don't wanna necessarily play classical songs.
I really want to play the normal pop songs, like let her go by passenger, those type of songs, my budget is somewhere around 150, is this a good duitar for me then? else can you please give me some other good guitars.
@Merijn van Oosterbaan No, just buy a acoustic guitar. Classic guitar is for jazz, rock, classical but not Pop.
@@carldinebando4118 I strongly disagree
Get an acoustic, the high action on this one makes it uneasy to play pop or rock, so is the wide fretboard
can you tell me which gauge to use for string replacement?? I want to use stock gauge strings
Nylon strings do not have gauge sizes. You can buy medium or hard tension. Gauges are for steel string guitars. Just use the strings that come with the guitar.
C40M or c40?
Ill be playing classic country on mine
Can you make another video on this guitar which solely consists of accoustic music. As this guitar though being classical delivers beautiful and clear accoustic music.

@@5MinuteMusic Thank you so much😍
@@shivamofficial1444 My pleasure!
im confused between c40 and c40m and c45
The C40M is made from Meranti wood (sides and back) and has a more natural finish. Its tone is very similar to the C40 (just not quite as warm sounding in my opinion). I have never played the C40M, but I have heard recordings of it.
I have never heard of the C45.
