    Richard & Mark that was outstanding! During the Coinage Hall I was laughing so hard I had to stop the tape until I could contain myself again!
    You - What did they do there?
    Mark - They halled coins!
    Then reading the plaque - "damm I missed it then!" I started laughing so hard my cat looked at me like I was insane!😂🤣😂🤣🙀
    The Cathedral was absolutely amazing! Just loved that round window. This vid was so good I had to watch it a 2nd time!!!👏👏👏

    There were a few cathedrals built in 20th Century!
    Liverpool, 1904; Westminster Cathedral (Catholic) 1910; Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral (Catholic) 1967; Clifton Cathedral in Bristol 1973.

    Well I've learned something today. I had no idea that a cathedral of this calibre was built as late as the 19th Century. It's comforting to know that such craftsmanship and artistry can still be produced.

    Gosh, that was wet!
    Truro Cathedral looked spectacular- a fine example of Victorian Gothic. I think there’s only been three or four post reformation Anglican cathedrals built from scratch (many cathedrals were parish churches previously) - you could argue St Paul’s, but certainly Truro, Coventry (after the previous was bombed), Liverpool, and Guildford.
    (There is in Truro Cathedral, the old south aisle of St Mary’s church, a 16th century remnant which still serves as the town centre parish church!)

    Thanks Richard and Mark, we had abysmal weather yesterday on the south coast so we sat and watched this on the TV, we did laugh along very hard. The moment you notice the umbrella creeping into shot is priceless I let out a huge belly laugh. There are some fascinating places you found there and if I want to find out more about them I shall use Google. For a 15 minute video I think you both covered a wide array of places - I for one didn't know of this city before the video. It was a great video and very much had the feel of two friends finding a new place and adapting to problems while filming - most content creators would have headed straight home until the weather improved but instead we had a more personal video which shows just a fraction of difficulties you can run into when making these type of videos and only have a limited time.

    • @RichardVobes

    Ah Truro, been through there but not stopped. There is a Great Western Railway Express passenger locomotive named after Truro, city of Truro. and it is allegedly the first locomotive to reach 100 miles an hour, but there is no evidence to prove that. I personally believe that it didn't go 100, it just doesn't seem capable of it!
    That's Cathedral was very grand, it's amazing to know it was built so recently!
    Well done great video suits you by the way!! 👍

    excellent and funny video lol also you may like to know Truro like Bristol and Exeter during the English civil war once had its own Mint, it was established in the 1640s by royalists to pay the troops.if anyone is interested in this period and its coinage they might find this pdf of interest which I have in my collction...heres link "NOTES ON THE MINTS OF TRURO AND EXETER UNDER CHARLES 1ST" www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital%20BNJ/pdfs/1934_BNJ_22_17.pdf

      also it was at Tresillian bridge near Truro on March 15th 1646 ..sir Ralph Hopton and the royalist army surrendered to Thomas Fairfax and the Parliamentarians...Fairfax its believed to have used The Wheel Inn in the village of Tresillian as his HQ at the time

  • @scenario27
    @scenario27 5 лет назад +1

    Rather disappointed in this tour. I think you did a disservice to the city. You could have mentioned the many interesting things about Truro, like the leats that run through the cobbled streets to keep them clean, the Lander’s monument at the top of Lemon st and if you had gone to Green lane near the football ground you could have shown a magnificent panorama of the whole city which would have highlighted the green spire on the cathedral, made of copper, to honour the miners of Cornwall who you mentioned so often in previous videos. Truro means 3 rivers. Truro is one of the prettiest places in the whole of the South-West. I think you failed to get that across. Truro has its busiest days in the summer, in the rain, when visitors go looking for something else to do and there is plenty to do and see. I also think that your expert needs a better connection to google! I have really enjoyed your other videos and am subscribed to your channel but this one really let you down.

    • @zoot69uk2001
      @zoot69uk2001 5 лет назад +4

      Sorry we tried, its was horrible weather and we came down to Truro on the spur of the moment, i have to be honest i dont know the area around Truro awfully well. It was a quick walk around the centre of town, more of a chat and a bit of fun. Remind myself to do better research next time.

    • @RichardVobes
      @RichardVobes  5 лет назад +5

      I don't really try to make a serious documentary of places I go - it's just entertainment. As Mark said in his comment, it was spur of the moment and I am exploring the city 'as a tourist' and not an expert. It was a lot of fun and I will return another day. I am sure there is lots to see. Maybe you would like to take me around and point things out. That would be cool. Judging from other comments, people enjoyed the fun approach. Take care.

    • @rbh8807
      @rbh8807 5 лет назад +3

      I think this is slightly unfair. Dont get me wrong everyone has the right to their own opinion but I feel this comment comes across very harshly. I've been watching Richard a long time and he is open to constructive criticism. It may not have been ment to come across in the way it has, but as is the way of the internet I suppose. Richard has been to many of local places near where I used to live and missed some of the most interesting places. I personally didn't think he did my town an injustice for missing them. I put it down to him either not knowing or picking other things he finds interesting for his channel and as a visitor to the town. These visits are so short with all of the things different towns and cities offer it would be impossible to get them all in. I'm sure Richard will be back and take on board some of the things you have mentioned. As for the comments towards Mark, not everyone knows everything about the town's/cities/villages they live in. I couldn't even tell you the name of the road 3 roads from mine. Thanks to this video I have found somewhere new I had never heard of before and will be visiting in the future. This isn't an attack or a keyboard warrior looking for an argument just a plea to be kinder to one another. And remember we all see the world in a different way.
