    Craig makes you feel like you known him all your life. Really great info on white paint. I would never paint at 35psi. Would like more info on the bonding of the paint with a plastic model.

    Craig, just watched your excellent informative presentation createx illustration colors. I am a sculptor and presently working with small pieces, varying in scale from 6-inches to one foot in size. Materials: smooth-on polyesters resins (300 and 65-d), and hardwoods. My first experiments will utilize the illustration and wicked flair color lines applied with a fine art brush. Would appreciate any comments you may have. I have done a fair amount of reading regarding the various products such as primers, importance adding 4050 URL’s gloss clear to colors etc. Basically my question comes down to your experience applying the colors with a brush! Thanks, Roy

      Illustration Colors and Wicked Colors are fluid acrylics, with a fairly low viscosity. Mixing UVLS 4050 Gloss clear ~ 25% per volume to colors works well for brushing with more control and leveling. Thank you.

    Thanks for the video!
    Is there a recommended (non-clear) primer for plastic model kits? Or is it okay to add a bit of colour into the UVLS clear and use that as the primer?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад +1

      4050 UVLS Gloss Clear works excellent, as does AutoBorne Sealer. Please refer to the Hard-Surface Application for more information about 4050 v. AutoBorne Sealer when used as a ground coat direct to plastic. If in doubt, an initial coat of 4050, then AutoBorne Sealer is the best for adhesion. Thank you. www.autoborne.com.

    Thank you for these video demos. Just wondering about what was said - regarding illustration colors having better quality pigments. Are the color pigments in the Wicked line, as archival/high quality as Illusration line? I would imagine them being the most lightfast, as they're meant for automotive work. But just wondering about the lightfastness of Wicked vs. Illustration colors. In my case, I'm hoping to make art, that will be kept indoors. But just wondering if both lines have the same quality. Thank you for any info on this!
    I remember reading pigments rated lightfast I, only last 100 years without fading in indoor conditions. Automotive grade pigments might last longer? I could be wrong.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад +1

      All Createx paints are made with the same lightfast pigments. Its the resins that are different. Thank you.

    Informative video! Thank you. I just subbed. Regarding erasers, I see you are using a regular eraser. For fine art, 'aggressive' pencil erasers are often used. Dru Blair and other's use them as I'm sure you know. Will these work without the 4030 addition to the ratio? Thank you so much.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад +1

      Illustration Colors, and all Createx acrylic paints, are much easier to erase without 40430 added. Thank you.

    Just had delivered primary and secondary sets cant wait to use. Can I use UVLS 4050 clear instead of the 4030?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад +1

      Yes, and it works well. Try adding 4050 Gloss Clear ~ 10% - 20% per volume to Illustration Colors, then thin with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.

    Ok question about the illustration colors. Craig shows using the 4030 then reducing to get the paint to flow through the micron. What if you wanted to be able to erase or scratch and not use the 4030? How much reducer would he recommend for going through a small airbrush either, .2 or .18? I’ve seen so many different things online from 5-10% to 3 parts reducer 1 part paint. It gets very confusing. Obviously the more reducer the easier it seems to be able to get the detail, but at what point does it become too much? And can you clarify the life of the paint when adding reducer or 4030. Ive seen on the tech sheet it says no pot life, but I’ve also seen in videos to only reduce what you will use within a day or two. Thanks!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад

      For soft erasing, thin colors with 4011 Reducer, do not use 4030. As Craig points out in the video, experiment; there's many ways to use Illustration Colors, from simply sprayed out of the bottle, to mixed with 4011 Reducer, to mixed with 4030 Balancing Clear + 4011, which makes it more of an automotive transparent color better suited for hard-surface application. Pot-life is the time after when a 2k/ catalyzed paint is no longer sprayable after being mixed. Createx paints, including Illustration Colors are not 2k / catalyzed paints, hence no pot-life. For more, please refer to the Illustration Colors tech data sheet, available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.

    Hello can I use this Createx Illustration colors as acrylic underpaint for my oil paint? I am using Windsor and Newton Gryffin Alkyd Oil paint on Canvas. Will it adhere well with the Createx underpaint? Thank you!

      Although this should work, its best to test for compatibility and determine dry times. Thank you.

    If you’re spraying over chrome do you need to use an adhesion promoter so it won’t rub off or peel off on automotive use like emblems or even bigger parts like bumpers, wheels.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад

      Yes. When painting chrome, start with either AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, then apply paint. I have a Takumy Micron 0.18, is it possible to use it undiluted? At how many PSI should the compressor be set?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  7 дней назад

      While Illustration colors can be sprayed directly from the bottle through a 0.18mm Micron, best spray performance is achieved by reducing the paint a little bit as the alcohol in Createx 4011 Reducer (and new 4021 Reducer) helps eliminate surface tension and tip-dry which improves flow and leveling. With a micron, psi is anywhere from ~ 10 to 20. Thank you.

    is the illustration line water fast?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 года назад +1

      By "water fast" we're assuming your inquiring about whether Illustration Colors cure to a coating that is not soluble in water. Yes, after a minimum of 48-hours air curing, colors will withstand direct contact with water, however, if direct contact with water is intended, we recommend mixing Illustration Colors with 4030 Balancing Clear, createxcolors.com/additives-thinners-cleaners-more/additives/4030.html. Thank you.
