Wow....stunning filming and a great hike both, you captured the beauty and uniqueness of Joshua National Park perfectly! We were lucky to visit there 3 years ago and were blown away by its landscape! Thanks so much for sharing and bringing back such amazing memories 😎👍👍👍
June, 2018-I was in Fla, June,2019 I was in S Oregon on the coast trying to stay warm. I am wintering over not too far from the SW corner of the park. I am getting ready after all the lockdown silliness is done to spend some time in Joshua Tree when the challenge is to stay WARM with winter season. Thanks for the quick tour. I drove to the I-10 southern gate a few weeks ago and spent some time in that area of the park.
Thanks so much! We did this trip back in June. Kind of fun to go back through the footage and recall things that already slipped your memory. It's a great Park with a lot of neat things to do. Most people avoid the summer months - too hot!
Randy, it is so hot in the Mojave in the summer, you and Kayla are amazing. Good you had the water, heat stroke is common there. I visited Joshua National Park right after it was upgraded from National Monument in mid 1990s, and that was in the late fall, much cooler. Your tour of the trails is excellent! Thank you, . . . Mike
You sure did a lot in one day! I have walked to skull rock from Jumbo Rocks Campground - loved that trail, driven up to Keys View and visited the Cholla Cactus Garden. Hidden Valley’s trailhead parking lot was overflowing the last time we were here so skipped that. Awesome you had it so quiet! Great video Randy & Kayla!
Thanks, Heather! That was our stop about 2 days before we made it to your place. Some have commented that many Californians aren't crazy like us to visit Joshua Tree in the summer - too hot! Have a great week!

Hey Alan, thanks for watching and passing also the kind, encouraging and confirming comments! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Keep hiking, my friend!
Finally...Finally...Joshua Tree has arrived. At least in the summer you have the whole place to yourselves. The 1st hike you took was also did on our 1st visit( 2014) and were bummed that it was all fenced in. Our over night experience in Yucca Valley was just that..Yucca, Yucca...Yucca.. Glad that my 2nd visit in December 2016 was much better and lots cooler. How did you guys sleep in that heat???!!! Anyways great video as always Randy. The sunset shots were awesome!
Hope the wait was worth it! lol! Joshua Tree does get a lot of bad press, but we really enjoyed the things we did. Thankfully the temps cooled off at night, but man was it hot during the day. Actually, it prepared us for the following day near Slab City where it reached 107. Enjoy your weekend, Robert!
I live near there, my favorite place in the world, 3 and 1/2 million visitors last year gets pretty crowded. you guys lucked out finding camping, I recommend not just showing up and expecting a spot.
Good advice, John! Someone said going there in the dead of summer (man it was hot) helped to thin out the crowds. I loved Joshua Tree - too bad it sometimes gets a poor rap from other.s Appreciate the comment!
June is good to beat the crowds but it’s hotter than hell! PLEASE bring hats and plenty of water on EVERY hike. You can’t plan for the unknown so always always bring water even on short walks from a parking lot! Hats and sunscreen are also a must!
Great stuff! Appreciate the wise information. So easy, as I learned on that one hike, to underestimate the region. The rules are much different there than from what we experience on the East Coast. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Big fan of your channel! I am planning on a solo trip to Joshua Tree soon since I live nearby in LA. Was the stargazing amazing as in were you able to see all the stars at night? That is pretty much the biggest reason I want to go. Thanks again!
Appreciate hearing that, thank you! Regarding the stars, honestly can't remember. Not the blackest skies I've seen, but it will sure beat what you are accustomed to in LA.
Skull Rock is basically drive up and take a look. We were just fooling around on the rocks behind. As for the Cholla trail, it is (I believe ) as short quarter mile loop.
Ah JTree, NICE, memories. Thing I recall the most about rock climbing there is the sliced up fingers from some of the rock formations.ghhhhhhhhhg (oops, my cat typed that. Hydrate and carry more water and salty snacks. Peace out.
Right on! JT is an under-rated National Park. Yeah, just goofing off near the parking lot and felt the concern regarding inadequate water. Left that in the final edit to warn hikers. This is often not a big issue for us on the east coast. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the great videos! I had a question, though... Every time I've seen you talk about tightly scheduled days or doing a lot of things on a time budget, I notice that there's always the shots of the car driving by or the two of you walking past the camera, which clearly needs a lot of time walking/driving down the same road, turning around to collect the camera etc.): how does that factor into your considerations and would you still think it's a tight schedule if one were to do the trip as a natural tourist/hiker like you minus the vlogging?
haha! Great observation and question! Yes, those shots do add to the time (and effort), but we pretty much have it down to a science. Someone will stay out for the car shots and I get great cooperation with the "walk-bys." Overall, it might only add 1-2% to my time. Basically it comes down to answering the question since time available is the same - see a lot or really soak-up one place. We chose the former as it also makes fun return visits to see new things. Personal preference. Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos!
I don't remember if I learned it from you or some other source, but in just the past few days, I learned that Joshua trees aren't really trees at all, but a species of yucca, i.e., a plant. Who'da thunk it? Who do you hire to run ahead with the camera, and take video as you approach? If the job ever opens up, I'm available. : ))
Hey Nick, we were there back in 2012 as a family but I wasn't as much into the "video thing." But Yes, dying to get back and do some exploring at that incredible location! Thanks for the suggestion!
Hiking in the desert in the summer with no shade hats, not enough backup water, and sleeveless shirts is a VERY bad idea. I'm guessing you're not from here. Here in Phoenix, we have tons of tourists being rescued from hiking trails every summer. Some of them die. Very dangerous.
Yeah, leaving the water in the car, even for that short stop was foolish. Normally I don't make that mistake. Lifeguarded all my life with no problems in the sun, but need to start taking more precautions. Appreciate the concern.
Yeah, we camped there for one night. Plenty of campgrounds (and plenty of room in the warmer months when we were there). We stayed at Black Rock - flush toilets and no showers. This might be helpful: www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm
Please note - as stated in the opening clip - that ALL DRONE FOOTAGE was taken outside of the National Park.
I love the dream-like quality of this particular episode.

Great video!.....informative and well done!
Thanks, Jill! Hope you are having a great week!
I want to visit here in the future!
Hope you can make it happen, Reuben! It's a great place with a lot to explore. Thanks for watching!
We spent a few days there. It was real nice. Not sure I will go back
It was a fun Park. Glad you guys got to experience it! I wouldn't mind getting back if we are in the area - just not again in the heart of summer!
Americas Parks I appreciate the response! Keep on doing your thing! 👊
How long was the skull rock hike and the cholla cactus garden hike..I’m limited on time
Skull Rock is basically drive up and take a look. We were just fooling around on the rocks behind. As for the Cholla trail, it is (I believe ) as short quarter mile loop.
such a beautiful Nature Park and very informative Video !!! Big thumbs up!
I have subbed you :) Greetings from Rochester, NY
Thank, Yvonne! I send you greeting back from the Jersey Shore!
Nice channel. Just subscribed back!
Thanks for the comment!
great video
Thank you very much!
I like your content. Aside from the quality, you don't use the all the weird music that other RUclipsrs use. This could actually be a quality tv show.
Hey Rafael, really encouraged by those kind words! Hope you have a great week, my friend!
Neat, Jim - makes sense, but not sure if I ever knew that!
Have you explored Anza-Borrego?
Never heard of it. Just looked it up.... what a beautiful place. Made a note. Thanks!
Super great channel 😃 New supporter 👍+🔔 Merry Christmas from Denmark 🎅
Thank you very much. Enjoy your weekend!
Those Joshua trees are super cool! Where was the national park?
Joshua Tree National Park is located in SE California, about 160 miles directly East of LA. Thanks for watching!
Was that a yucca or sotol?
Got me on that one. brother! Probably using too many east coast terms!
Americas Parks love your videos! I have lived in New Mexico 40 years and only recently discovered the difference.
@@Josh-Hunt Thanks! Always learning! :)
You should go to Congaree National Forest!
@@AmericasParks When I was younger, I did the same thing at Joshua Tree and ran out of water. Almost passed out on the trail. Learned my lesson.
Here’s a Joshua Tree clip from our camping trip there this spring 🤙 Absolutely loved it!

Your video brought back some nice memories. Glad you had a great time!
Did you camp there? I’m just wondering if they have shower and flush toilet :)
Yeah, we camped there for one night. Plenty of campgrounds (and plenty of room in the warmer months when we were there). We stayed at Black Rock - flush toilets and no showers. This might be helpful: www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm
BUT WHAT FLAVOR WERE THE THREE GATORADES?!
The color of your thumbnail says it all. All orange in honor of you! lol!
@@AmericasParks Fair enough, guess it's about time updated that...
4x4in x 8 feet long and it's two thousand pounds😑?
Hmmm... It was a couple years ago, but usually careful to present the facts accurately from the signs and brochures. I'll confirm if I go back... :)
Great video
Thank you very much!
