Doing great! I’m a gemmologist based in QLD, and have been cutting and polishing stones for around 15 years. You are finding great pieces. Usually, when fossicking for crystals you are looking for cavities, or “vugs” in the host rock (usually a granite). But it appears that there has been huge weathering and decay in this host. I’m not 100% on the geology around that area, but have been reading up on the area. That double termination piece you found is incredible. It looks like it will be unlikely you will find any full clusters, due to how decayed the host rock is. If you have any questions or want any help with identifications, leave a reply and I’ll post my best social account to message (don’t want to seem like I’m promoting myself/my business)
I have it on very reliable authority that there are great clusters there, just a little deeper. Apparently, according to the man who found the deposit many decades ago, the smokey always sat above the amythest clusters. He's showed me some amazing specimens. I'd love to pick your brains, I'm keen to learn what I can about this.
Over the blue mountains there's a public gem fossicking area, I seen it looking for gold prospecting areas on Google Earth, I will look it up for you 🆗@@andrewfairhall604
Love all your gold content but since I am a rockhound I do really appreciate content like this also. Love that you’re excited about finding the rocks and crystals you’re finding lately not only in this video but others. Would love to see some content of you specifically looking for and finding some jaspers and agates too.
Re the pick causing breakage, I know a few folks in my area who use a deer antler to dig for quartz. It's not hard enough to scratch the quartz nor dense enough to convey a ton of kinetic energy, but lets you get right through dirt a hell of a lot better than plastic garden tools which are also popular. If you've got a local equivalent that might work better for intact extraction. A wooden dowel carved a bit can work well too. I'm toying with design ideas for a 3d printed clawlike thing which may have a more to purpose shape than a deer antler but with the same hardness and density range.
And if the stone is too hard, you can hit it with a hammer because the bone or wood is softer than quartz; it still won't damage the quartz, at least in my area.@@VoGusProspecting
Liking the fossicking content, Chris. You're in a good place for it, that's for sure. Lots of interesting minerals in Oz, wish I could go have a dig myself.
@@VoGusProspectingChris you were so excited that you were gushing!😂 Still it was good fun to watch you get so excited! Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Chris, your excitement of crystals reminds me of Brian from The Crystal Collector. He has an amethyst mine in North Carolina if I’m not mistaken. His vids, which you’ve probably seen, are full of info & some beautiful crystals! Best of luck in your new found joy!! Love from Maine, USA.
In the middle part of the last century when the wife and I were noodling for sapphire and topaz we found some very large geodes of amethyst. We left them behind as at the time they were ONLY amethyst. There were heaps of it. Now kicking myself I returned a couple of years back but have been unable to relocate it. Indigenous land and hobby farms abound in the area now but I picked up some crystals beside the road.
Forgive me for being quite drunk and opinionated at the moment - but, I've got to compliment your calm, quiet and not obnoxious videos lately. You're the best of the best on the RUclips prospecting channels! The Dun Hard types that want hype and click bait can suck it! Yeah, I'm going to catch flack for saying that... but Chris (?) you're as real as I can see from Canada.. keep up keeping on. Dun Hard could actually learn a thing from your vids - like honesty.
Grouse to see you so excited over rock hounding. See what happens when you lick rocks! Stiff bristle brush, plastic garden hand fork (small) wood pointed stick. Love it Chris, kicking goals mate. ❤it 😊
OH MAN I would be hopping about like a fart in a hot skillet! What a fun spot you got onto there. I have been rockhounding for years, but have never been to a crystal farm like that!
Thats awesome! You can always do what I did: pile all the tailings you can in your backpack! Lol. Then I go home and pan them out. Crazy rockhound here! I soak'em in light soap with water, then scrub the clay off. Then I soak'em in Oxalic Acid and water for a few days to remove any rust. Love your videos!
I rinse the dirt off of mine then put them in a soaked of baking soda and vinegar use a brush on them rinse them real well and they come out great. So glad to see you getting into crystals I love digging for crystals✌❤❤
The tiny ones are often the nicest! Great for jewelry even if they aren't worth much on their own. Also great for gem grab bags/gem paydirt. The hard part is finding big ones (that aren't busted up) with good clarity, and that's why they fetch the big bucks.
Great video Chris, and it was nice to see how much fun you had fossicking crystals. It´s a great experience and you found already at your 2nd visita lot of cool stuff in a short time, magpie instincts come up and endorphines :) I´m pretty sure that you found enough value as well, although that was not your goal but nevertheless, it does not hurt either. As others said, try to find the host rock, and be careful with any hard rock you encounter in the weathered floated soil, it could be full of crystals which unfortunately appear to be very fragile. Working with water could really help you, maybe try to get a pump spray bottle. I have seen fossickers using screw drivers and someone here suggested deer antler, maybe difficult to get in Australia :) Anyway, it was fun to watch. All the best.
First thing you need is a good set of stacking classifiers 1/2 1/4 and 1/8th (pan size not those little ones OR spud engineer a few stackable box shaped 😬 with a rocker bottom ) Not sure how far it is from your vehicle to the site but you need to put your classified material in buckets and put them into a tub in your vehicle the when you get to water you can correctly classify and pull out the hundreds you missed you missed at least as much as you harvested welcome to crystal fever great hall and you’ll be a pro in no time thanks for sharing see you on the next one.👍🏼👊🏼 p.s. if your allowed bring a battery operated rhoto hammer to cleave off the harder bedrock and get onto the pockets where the clear stuff is…

Chris, what you want to locate is the quartz vein that those have shed from. If you can get at that, you will find the plates and clusters that will blow your mind and make that fossicking your doing pay the bills.
If there's water nearby (I'm guessing there isn't much though) could you maybe use a yabbie pump to knock the dirt off while it's still on the wall? Would make it so you aren't hitting them with your pick and not mechanical so not breaking any prospecting laws as far as I know?
haha I read the other comments. The nylon brush is probably more practical but my idea is probably more fun, and it would help cool you down! I vote both.

Hey chris if you wanna chase some some cool smokey quartz crystals go for a trip to mooralla, beear fossiking area along anderson creek they are formed inside Geodes and double terminated but be prepared to dig deep holes unless someone has left a hole open
Why wouldn't you use a high banker with the angle just enough for the dirt to still wash away but leave the clean rocks and crystals and push run the rocks off so you dont damage anything more then when you're digging you should use a wooden, bone or composite little like dowel when you see the crystals in the ground to gently remove them love your videos you guys teach me alot
Sometimes you can try soiling the crystals with hydrochloric acid or nitric acid because regular washing doesn't work. However, you must take precautions and have protective clothing, gloves, and a mask. If you know where this material comes from, why don't you try to find a place with undamaged crystals growing out of the bedrock? It's probably better than picking up rotten trash that can be sold by the kilo, but I guess that's not what you mean. One carefully excavated "brush" with undamaged crystals on a piece of parent rock is worth as much as tons of that crystal debris depending on the size and beauty of the crystals. So it's worth the effort and look for the crystal treasure. True, you've found some nice things to put in your display case, but I assure you that looking for a nest with crystals is a bit of a change if you know where you can find gold in your area, but try it with real crystals.

But I let him know the difference between US desert prospecting & where there's water like in Australia, in case he wants to visit...meteorites are my Forte, gold in some, fossils in some, gemstones in some...I was crippled for 22 years until a few years ago & I'm getting back out there now & I learned from the best b4 that & put my down time studied to the test now
@HensleyTG1 oh...in addition to my comment to you, I do like to tease Chris, he's a cherry, newbie, after all & he can take it & knows I'm just kidding
thanx for this info James im getting things organised to start my own trip this is good info to know

Phantom quartz as it has an internal ghost of a young form of the crystal.
