I loved watching the waves crashing when I lived there. This video is so beautiful! Driving to “the other side of the island “ was so much fun and we could see Pico across the ocean. I can almost smell the seaweed while watching this! I lived on Terceira in 1980 , Jan. 1, when the bad earthquake hit. All the churches lost their bell towers and the clocks all stopped at 3:42, the time of the quake.
I love your Channel: the subject matter, your personalities, your friendly down to earth accessible personalities. Thank you so much for your kind words; we appreciate it. We love sharing our experience; glad to have you on the journey. Laura and I make a good team; we always try to be true to ourselves. Take care!
It was a very quick trip; we will go back in the summer. On this day it was pretty windy; conditions were not favorable for filming. More to come; this was just a little taste! Take care Fern!
What a lovely tour. That church in Santa Barbara definitely looks like the mission we have here in California. We have our famous Highway 1 here in CA but there aren’t as houses along the way. Thank you!
I love watching your videos!! Very informative and interesting. My Parents are from from Pico and I have family that still lives there. I haven't been there to visit in 9 years! Watching your videos makes me very happy and excited to go back!
Awesome.!! Love all your video's.It's like my little escape from life during Covid and not being able to travel and see the world. Pico island is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your journey of buying a place and what Pico Island is like.
somehow I missed this video. My grandfather was born in Santa Barbara in 1873, left in 1888 to Boston, then to California. We were in the village in 2015 with our boys on family. First time for anyone in family to go back to Azores. Strange thing, I had this feeling I had been there before... The Azorean blood!!!
I have driven all over Pico ...so many things to see ! The coast road is just the best . Those winding roads up high ! So many gorgeous churches and Holy Ghost chapels
Great video Laura and Carlos. Lagoa restaurant still offers a typical local food buffet ? Also when coming back to Lajes, there's a point after a turn when the big Pico mountain shows itself to you....to me one of the most dramatic views when driving around Pico. I believe the small lava church you showed is called "Império" ?
Hi great video you guys make it interesting and natural I think Laura should have more input I think Carlos should let Laura express more of her opinion
I just love your videos. So refreshing! My husband and I will be moving from the US to Faial in June, so we'll be neighbors. I was born in New Bedord, so maybe I'll meet Jess (owner of the café) someday. :-)
My dream is to travel to Portugal Madeira first then the Azores my grandfather was born in Madeira came to the states at 17 would love to experience living in this country, not in the cards unfortunately, what a gorgeous breathtaking country!

I want to go to the Azores so much but My wife doesn’t want to go until they open some of the restrictions and start having touradas a corda again we love going to different freguesias touradas e festas you guys are great and I appreciate the vids of the house and the island.

What made you move to Pico? My family is from ribeira grande, Pico and I am happiest when visiting out beautiful island. I imagine living there is different than just visiting though.
Lovely video. I love seeing the island and all the little villages, cafés, churches, views of the ocean. I would love to see São João...especially down by the church and along the "Old Road" towards the red windmill. My grandparent's house is along that road and it would be nice to see it in the video....tall house with a green gate...close to the port. Keep enjoying your time on Pico!!! All the best!!
@@ourjourneyonpicoisland-car552 looking forward to it! Here in Canada 🇨🇦 we also wait for sunny, warm days...might be a few months more 😃 take good care!! All the best always 👋
Beautiful. I’m from São Miguel and I live in Bermuda I have been here for 37 years. But one day I Would love to go see all the different islands in the Azores. Funny how you say the cows have a beautiful view of the ocean. We have a dairy farm here in Bermuda and I say that all the time. My cows have a better view of the ocean than I do. 🤣 love watching your videos. 🤗
That is awesome Maria; Bermuda is on our bucket list. I have a friend that I grew up with that lives in Bermuda as well; his name is Fernando Oliveira. I also got a call from one of our Bermuda followers the other day; his name is Joe Sousa! Small world! Love the cows! The 9 islands of the Azores are waiting for you! Take care! Saude!
Enjoyed your video. We have booked air travel from Boston to the Azores for the beginning of June, including 3 nights on Pico Island. Do you have any sense of whether or not international travel will be open by June 2021. Any idea what local people in the hospitality industry are anticipating for the late spring and summer? Thanks
Glad you enjoyed the video Glenn. Everything is up in the air; no pun intended. We are all waiting to see if what happens with covid and its restrictions. My gut tells me yes it will be open; but you just never know. Hospitality business is ready for regular Tourism. Take care!
Are there ocean hot springs on Pico? I visited São Miguel a couple of years ago. The hot spring on the west end of the island was so much fun! (Ferraria?)
An interesting place, you can always tell a Portuguese community because their towns have a distinct, beautiful style. If I may offer some constructive criticism: with video, the general rule of storytelling is “show, don’t tell”. Voice-over narration is good, but long sections of people taking straight into camera gets dull very fast. I hope you take that in the spirit it’s intended. All the best!
We do try to balance depending on the content. Because our channel is more like a vlog; half of the time we will be speaking directly into the camera. We do appreciate your input; thank you for taking the time. Cheers!
Sorry guys, I don't want to seem rude, but you guys have an amazing place and, unfortunately, spent the major videos time speaking about it and should show more of it instead.
No worries. We will show more of these villages when we go back in the summer. That day was not very favorable for filming; as we mentioned! Also; please keep in mind that these are vlogs; half of the time will be us talking/engaging with the watcher. I will also add that we are new at this; still learning on the job. Take care Weslley! Like some of my portuguese relatives that live in canada. If you guys visit the east side of the Pic island, you might just run into some of my portuguese relatives that have the same last name as mine. Calhau, in that area. What about a road trip around São Jorge island? Around Faial? With POV camera!?:-)And voiceover, durig or after the trip.
Spending a few days in both in the islands will happen. Those would be amazing vlogs. Cheers!
