My favorite aircraft! I saw it at Jones beach a few years back and the sound sends a chill down your spine. Definitely would never want to be on the receiving end of one of them.
One of these things dropped out of low cloud on a rainy day in the Scottish Highlands and flew right at me . At first I thought it was an F 111 but it just kept getting bigger . Lord knows how it was navigating the mountainous terrain in that visibility . I've always wondered whether I was supposed to have seen it at all . It was flying down Loch Cluanie and I was on my motorbike on the A 87 . A sight I'll never forget .
30 years ago I had the distinct pleasure to be in England with the USAF reserves. I met an American air force guy who was there from my air base in California who never left Britain since WW2. He was still there after 47 years. Amazing
Ive been on the the ground standing at the runway hold line at the aircraft 4 clock during while deployed once . within 100-150 ft. maybe. full afterburner. you literally feel like the air is being pulled out of your lungs. threre's no level of hearing protection i know of that works well enough to stop the sound resonating through your body. those flames are absolutely hotter than hell. and damn do they shoot out the back a long way.
I grew up in the shadow of Dyess AFB. It's not a big base, but it's a home to these incredible aircraft. We lived off the end of the runway out in the country. I always loved seeing them take off at night, afterburners glowing purple. I was also friends with the daughter of one of the pilots. I even got to sit in one once. I'll always love this plane
I heard this B1 in person, bro you can strongly feel the sound on your chest, i have no idea why it is so loud, maybe because of the 4 massive engines he has
My favorite plane, I used to live by an air force base and would see and hear them flying over my house pretty often. My mom worked on base and would bring me to get a closer look at them sometimes.
I love b1 lancers, I always want to know more about them, it's really cool to see these flyovers, I've seen only one working one in person, I watched it take off Ellsworth, people say louder than an entire fighter squadron, that's not that far from the truth
13 year AF veteran. Worked on C-130's at Dyess AFB for 9 years. Parked next to KC-135's, and B-1b's. I have seen multiple shows of the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, and The Red Arrows. All great... but my favorite aerial demonstrations, was a lone F-15, and the B-1. People don't realize how large the B-1 is. its shape belies its size. Nothing is cooler than the anticipation of a B-1 doing a long circle around an airfield, (its size means you never lose sight of it, even 10 miles out), knowing he is lining up for the "high speed pass". That simple maneuver is a thing of beauty, especially when they yank it, and go about 80 degrees up, and flip it over for a smooth half loop. You just don't expect an aircraft that large to pull that off. Plus the chest pounding roar of 4 F-101 engines. Love it. Almost as awesome as the smooth hum of the C-130 turboprops... :)
Also, I was lucky enough to witness a B-1B take off with all 4 afterburners wide open at PNAS several years ago. The noise was unbelievable. My complete body was vibrating. I was close to one of the hangers, which is several hundred yards from the runway!
I live by a small airport and one passed over my house the other day.. the sound and the fact my house was shaking I thought a plane crashed in my backyard or something, I watched it fly up and away not landing at the airport and could hear it for miles even when I couldn’t see it anymore. It was crazy!
Saw the B-1 making the passes while I was driving to my AirBNB rental house in Appleton to watch the airshow Thursday-Saturday. Bummed I couldn't make the whole week, otherwise I could have seen this!
I hope i get to hear one of these magnificent beasts flying one day. The B-1 has always been one of my favorite aircraft, along with the F-14 and the F-111 in part because of the Swing wing design. As the last swing wing designed aircraft in service for the US i hope it keeps pushing.
I remember 25 years ago seeing the same plane. I used to help park planes (I was in H.S. so I just directed them to their parking spot.) so I was looking away. Suddenly the ground shook and I heard this super loud noise. I looked back to see the B-1 in a steep climb. I'll never forget the insane power.
Memories of my first tour at Edwards, '82-'86. Avionics troop in the B1 CTF, standing about 5 feet behind the left wingtip of Ship 1 during a late twilight 4 engine AB run around 1985. Earplugs and headset on and mouthpiece over my mouth even though I wasn't on comm. It helped reduce the sound getting into your skull through your teeth. Four 30 foot blue flames and shock diamonds. The concrete of the old XB-70 run pad shaking under your feet, you feel your bones shaking. Thinking if you leaned forward you'd just skitter across the surface without taking steps like some kind of stop motion animation. Almost 35 years on I have tinnitis... yeah, but I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Got to see a B1 at air show, one slow speed fly by, it is HUGE. Then a high speed just under mach, low , fast and LOUD! simply an awesome display, saw this in 2004, remember it like yesterday. Probably my all time favorite air show memory
I worked several air shows on the C-5B, and the first time one of these came in for a low pass with full after burner was the first time I learned what it's like to be deaf for several minutes. Could feel it deep in my bones. After that I always requested the Tower to give me a heads up when they where coming in so I could put on double ear protection.
I’ve always thought that from the side it looks like a massive F-16. Very badass aircraft. I was there and witnessed the arrival of the static display B-1 and this demo. I swear to this day the ground shook when it flew by at full burn. Crazy
Neil Harrah or is the F16 a mini version of this? In all seriousness though both are incredibly good looking planes and perform their respective roles fabulously
Anyone else remember that one bad storm that canceled the night air show? I was so glad I didn’t leave early even though I knew they would cancel it. The B-1 did a full afterburner takeoff.
I was stationed at Dyess AFB where some B-1B's called home. After having to hear these beasts all day every day, I don't miss them lol. Impressively capable bombers though.
Along with my wife and stepdaughter, I was traveling on vacation in the Jeep Cherokee on the back gravel roads in the high plains of northeastern Montana through the oilfields one August morning in 1987. It was cool and cloudy out, about 50F, with a low deck of overcast. We were cutting cross-country over an oilwell-studded landscape of long rolling grassy hills toward the Canadian border and going 45 mph or so. Just rumbling along, driving in relative peace. All of a sudden we were accosted with a rapidly escalating, screaming, ripping roar at our immediate left that grabbed my full, frightened attention. With both hands white-knuckled on the wheel, I turned to see the dark grey profile of the nose of this amazing bomber coming out of the cloud deck right at us no more than two hundred feet up and only one or two hundred yards away! A SCREAMING WHAM and it went right over us with full AB's lit up shooting 50' blue flames out the back and with the wings very quickly swinging back into a vee as it ascended back into the clouds and disappeared .... SHEEEIT! ... We three were completely stunned speechless. The demon craft must have been crossing over us in excess of 600 mph. We had been radar-targeted and subjected to a “virtual” blasting into smithereeens like an Iraqi tank. Only, thank God Almighty and those Badass BONE Pilots, it was only a practice run. I pity those enemy Tank commanders out on a lonely road in the outback of the Iraqi desert sands. If ever under attack by this beastly spectre they would have only a couple of fearfully defenseless seconds of warning and only moments to say bye-bye to this world on their way to seeing their 77 toothless virgins.
No microphone or sound mastering system can make this play to it's maximum allowable sound range for play back on the best full range sound system. The sound energy is too powerful. You don't hear it, you feel it. That sound slams through your body and vibrates your breath it's so powerful.

This is so amazing, I wish I would have been there to experience the whole thing. The B1 is my favourite plane. How many gallons fuel is this thing burning while full afterburner?
I asked myself that very question 5 mins ago.
The crew of the B1b that did the last air show in Winnipeg in the 2000's gave us a barrel roll on exit...spectacular.
Such a beautiful Plane!
I remember seeing that plane all the way from the ticket booth. It’s now my favorite plane even though I love the B-29
Does anyone else get chills and eyes water from watching the f-ing BONE doing it's thing? Bow down B-2, B-52! Much love to BUFF!!! MUCH RESPECT!!! Can you imagine a B-1bR? Do it, do it now!
The B-1B is Rodan
Had a B-1 Lancer take off from my local AFB and jesus, nothing comes close to how good or loud it sounds.
