- WE sailed to Fakarava just at the right time for the most epic dive ever! We happen to be in this atoll of French Polynesia for an event that only happens once a year and this time it's happening all below the surface.
Every June, on the full moon over 10,000 groupers come to the South Pass of Fakarava to spawn on the biggest tidal swing of the year. We were witness to the congregation for a truly unforgettable and honestly pretty unbelievable event. With the large gathering of groupers also triggered one of the largest gatherings of grey reef sharks and we were in the middle of it all.
Join us on our sailing adventures throughout the Pacific Ocean!

Aloha! Glad ya'll are back at the Boat safe and sound.
Until next week Aloha from your friends on the Big Island of Hawaii!
Erica, I am right there with you... finally Warren has slowed down...weeks or months staying in those atolls may be exactly what you need. I would at least try. 2 dives and 2 snorkels a day for a few weeks and see how you feel about leaving Fakrava 😛
Ya right!?? FINALLY! But even still we have to work on his visa (spoiler alert… we got it and are staying for another year)
That is magical! It’s like as you glided through the grouper they would just look at you so calmly….love it! And that little beach at the end was just a little piece of paradise! Amazing guys!
Hey guys, we are a German YT-sailing channel and just discovered you. Your work is epic, awesome, awe inspiring, gorgeous, you call it, we name it. When I (Björn) was younger, I crossed the pacific ocean via Toau but missed out Fakarava. This place is absolutely amazing and your videoimpressions made our evening yesterday, thanks a lot!!! We wonder why you have only 52 k followers?! You are doing such a great job. I have a question. What kind of drone do you use? Maybe you find time to answer us. Anyway, we will follow your footsteps and will spend a long time in the Tuamotus. When I was there in 1996 on Toau, there was this polynesian guy Taopiri who lived there happily with his family. He had a tame barracuda to protect his fishing nets from shark attacks. He was quite a unique character, growing ganja on his little atoll and selling it to the french policeman :-))) All the best to you and save travels! Andrea & Bjoern
Hi guys! Thanks so much for your message and your comment means a lot to us. We use a DJI Mavic air 2 and Pro 3. They capture some amazing stuff and it doesn’t help that the scenery of French Polynesia is so captivating. We loved our time there so much, and so wish to come back there one day again soon. It’s such a special place. We went to Toau as well but spent most of our time in Fakarava and Tahanea. I’m not sure about our subscribers count, we’ve been consistently producing videos for 6 years now and our story and quality continues to improve, so I’m not really sure what more we need to do to get YT algorithm attention but we certainly are hoping for more subscribers.
Where are you currently sailing now?! Hopefully one day we can cross paths and share an anchorage together!
You guys are crushing it! Your cinematography, editing, narration and conveyance of the beauty around you amazing. Thank you for sharing. Really… I love WE Wednesdays!

Cheers!
I get so excited when I get a notification that you guys posted a video
You guys are so lucky ! We have dived in Bora Bora and Rangora back in 1993, amazing place. But my dream was Rangiroas Tiputa Pass or Fakarava !! Did you eat any grouper,....? Best tasting fish in the ocean.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
I enjoyed seeing Erica's Sister on all the previous episodes and hope she returns with her significant-other for more adventures!
Is your Helia 44- the Quatuor Version, the Maestro Version or the Owners Version?
That filming of the gathering of grouper is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen... Thank you for suffering so much in the production of this video 🙂
Haha THANK YOU!! THANK YOU, nobody gets how much time goes into these, and this video in particular was a BEAR!
@@WEsail Fair enough. But I was being ironic! Note to self - remember that America is an irony free zone. I am sure it was really hard work choosing from and editing all of that superb footage, but I was just expressing my jealousy about not being a part of those dives with all the grouper - I suspect that it would have been a life changing experience for me if I had been there!
Hahaha wow I can be daft sometimes!! Haha okay get it now, ya it’s a rough job 😉
Thank you Guys!!!! Nature is a Beautiful creature...
Oh my god!!! Amazing. Beautiful camera work guys. What a privilege to see that spectacular event. What a breathtaking world we have when we let it be!!! Thanks for sharing.
aWEsome! :)
That was incredible…viz was amazing, and the amount of grouper (and sharks) in one place, never seen anything like it 👍🤩🤩
Wow amazing the underwater videos (well topside too) but the shots with all the groupers is jaw dropping. How great you got that experience!
You are producing great videos. Congrats! I am a big fan, just from the beginning. have fun on your journey. Greetings from cold and rainy Europe.
What an amazing site! So awesome that is a protected area. I would have wanted to just sit back under water and watch the whole thing for hours and hours. Thanks for taking us there!
Amazing, amazing and double amazing. A miracle of nature. You guys are so beyond lucky to have been able to do those dives with the sharks and the groupers; beautiful, wonderful, and of course, amazing.
Absolutely beautiful and very relaxing, thanks for the posting.
Amazing job capturing it all on your shared video. You probably saw more fish than most divers see in a lifetime combined.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that flawless sunbeam edit @14:41 :), and of course, just another amazing video all around. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you!!
Wonderful footage and crystal clear water. What a plethora of sea life. Thank you ever so much for sharing what you witnessed and will remain forever etched in your thoughts.
Great timing, Great dive footage, thanks for sharing, so envious.
That was an epic dive. Love the number of groupers and sharks.
You Brought back memories of my time working as a Dive Master on the Great Barrier Reef Auzz. My now wife was a videographer underwater.
All the fish, sharks, the life style. I know exactly how you feel before , during and after your dives. Thanks for great videos. P.S I found sharks, white and black tip will warn you if they want you to back off, they arch their back downwards and really exaggerate their swim motion. Thanks again.
Well, you guys did it again. Showed us all such beauty; not on land, this time, but in the water. Really look forward to your mid week release. You inspire a lot of folks to go out and have adventures like this (so much so that we have certification classes early next year). Keep doing what you're doing!
By far the best line I have heard all week "...the Groupers, not the Sharks. No, that would freak us the HELL out!" Ya think? I actually did LOL.
You make it feel as if I were right there! I absolutely love your videos ♥️
Loved this episode...even with actual sailing.
Awesome experience! If you are seriously going back next year... how much $$ for me to join you on the boat for a week? I did Rangiroa and Tikehau this year... amazing!!! But missed out on Fakarava. I HAVE to go there!!
yikes!!... who stayed around long enough to count ?!
For example at 12:43 I had to turn the sound way up to hear you talking after your dive.
I’m not sure if it’s just my TV but your channel is the only one where the sound is either very loud or I can’t here the talking a few minutes later. Very frustrating because you produce cool videos.
Man thanks for letting us know, the sound is one of the hardest things to get right and we definitely still struggle even though we try to pay very close attention to it 🫤 it’s also very helpful that you provided the time so we can go back and pinpoint what went wrong… thank you, sorry about that
Pick me! I want to go diving with you all
And sailing too
Do people eat the grouper there? I know some kinds can make you sick. Love grouper burgers though.
Ya they are definitely on plates a lot here, not this island specifically but ya definitely a delicious fish!

you wanna know how sharks got such a bad rap??? two words: STEVEN SPIELBERG. he really should come out publicly to discuss shark conservation.
Aaahaha RIGHT!!? It’s been so long now, he really should!!
