I live 17 miles from Vero Beach and it was really windy. We escaped without any damages. I hope that everyone is safe.

My God! I feel so bad for the people in Florida affected by another hurricane this year. I know some people who were born in Florida, and aren't old enough to live on their own yet, and some can't simply can't afford to relocate from Florida, but hurricanes are my biggest fear of moving to Florida which is why as much as I like that state, I'm not going there, at least not to live. I did go for for a visit there back in September 2022, but thankfully got out in time literally 4 days before hurricane Ian struck. I'm not happy living here in Illinois, but despite the bi-polar temperatures, and political corruption here, at least it's not hurricane-prone.

No, if God hated Florida, he would've destroyed it completely by now, and it would be permanently uninhabitable. But Florida's location is just in a vulnerable, hurricane-prone spot. That's just a scientific fact. Yet some people still choose to move there, or stay there even if they can afford to relocate, and those are just facts. I visited Florida most recently this past September, and been there 3 times overall so far in my lifetime, but I have no intentions on moving there because of hurricanes alone.
I don’t even live in Florida however we had our trip planned to Disney world so we had to go don’t go during a tropical storm as that what had hit us I was terrified I’m from a place where we don’t get hurricanes or tornadoes so this was truly terrifying we still managed to go to all the parks but yah

And I don’t claim to know everything, But if you don’t want your house to be swept out into the ocean, then DON’T build it RIGHT UP ON THE EDGE OF THE OCEAN. Most people will say “oh no I have to be right there in the thick of it, I wanna walk out my back door and jump right into the ocean “. Well guess what it looks to me like you’re houses are built on top of sand and there’s nothing to protect your house from the ocean if it begins to surge. There’s no buffer zone. Your subject to the oceans full power if there’s ever a hurricane. It’s kinda like building your house on the edge of a active volcano with lava flowing right underneath your house. Eventually it’s gonna get ya. It’s only a matter of time
Category 1 is really no big deal to floridians its just a bad thunder/rain storm with heavy rain and flooding just a day to stay in and watch movies all day now on the other hand the people that live near the water well they always have to most problems! So in a nutshell if you're not super wealthy and live more inland your only concern will be going without electricity for a while but at least your house is still standing!
