Please never stop making 2gs videos 🙏🙌
missed the notification for this but great content as always! You're really saving a lot of people the trouble of digging through old forum posts with this channel!
This guy has been instrumental in giving confidence on working on my GS400. His videos are great and I have the same color gs400 year 99
I started following you around a year ago as i had purchased a 2004 GS300 and was looking for other owners to learn some tips. Your channel has been more than informative and you have given me much needed direction and suggestions when planning my Lexus restomod project.
I wanted to give an update on how my project had gone so far, it has been worth EVERY PENNY !
Thanks again and keep the videos coming Boss!!
I picked up my JZS160 GS300 (2nd Gen) for £800 in May 2020. I was told it would fail the safety test on ABS, VSC, Exhaust Leaks and Engine Lights from dead 02 sensors.
I worked for Lexus as a service collection driver in the early 2000's when these cars were brand new. The GS needed a lot of work done as the previous owner seemed to have only done minimal maintenance. One Spring had fallen through the Damper Stops and was resting on the wishbone! I won't lie, even with connections to the motor trade and a fully trained toyota mechanic for a brother it still cost me *A LOT* to get all the work done, but i went beyond what was required and now the Car is Solid!
OEM Spec & New parts fitted: All 4 suspension Dampers & all 4 Springs, Full Exhaust System, All 02 Sensors, ABS & Speed sensor, front wishbones on both sides, upper control arms on both sides, New Brake Discs & pads all 4 corners, New Wheels & Tires all 4 corners, full engine service (new plugs, rocker cover gasket, all fluids, all filters)
All in we are £4500 deep. Some say that was too much, but I never had all that money at once and had to pay in parts over time.
My argument was simple, if i bought a lower mileage example for around £3500 (the market price) I would still have to replace the exhaust, brakes, suspension parts in both cases.
Worth it.
Wow! Awesome update. Well done on your GS! Glad my vids could help a little. I’ll be doing a manual swap next. It’s about to get real! 😎
@@ForwardMomentum oh wow, that sounds epic!
Seen you alot in the 2gs groups on facebook and have been watching the videos for some time now....just want to say thank you for your time and effort making these videos. How in depth and your attention to detail i respect man. Keep up the awesome work, car is badass man
Words like these help keep me going. Much appreciated! 👊
All well worth it!! You are the best, thanks for doing this. I'm also a 98' lexus gs400 owner.
stock 16s will fit with hubcentric spacers 20mm+ and your good to go
nice! hope you’re doing well, love the channel 💯
Absolutely love your channel. This was extremely detailed. Thank you for what you do. Please don't ever stop.
Just some advice for copper washers, Advanced Auto has a kit that comes with a variety of copper washers. If you got a 2jz-ge or 2nd gen gs300 there's a size that also fits for the VVT-i oil tube.
Maybe somebody knows how mutch more do these caliper stick out ? I already have nice aftermarket rims It would be great to know if these will fit. Now the distance between wheel spoke and stock GS430 caliper is about 10mm haven't measured accurately yet
Dude your instructions and description are on point
Thank you for the kind words! I do try. 👍
@@ForwardMomentum got my follow both on here and ig. Keep it up
Love the gold calibers. Looks fantastic with the Cinnabar paint.
I don't even own a 2GS but love your attention to detail.
Another great video. Thanks!
Best s16 GS channel
Your GS300 build is SO NICE!
Thanks. It’s a GS400 though. 😉
Oh I also have a file to make an cut "OEM" LEXUS stickers in the S160/2nd gen VINTAGE of font🤫as well as vektor files to 3D print badges currently only have a gloss black/natural white & blue glow in the dark filament
What's the link?
Good job Mate👍👍👍👍
In Poland we swap calipers from mercedes s class on mercedes ML brake disc. Cheap and strong brakes swap
Do you need any other mods for those to fit. Like the spacers
Not only Mercedes Adrian.
I'm gonna do swap from LS 400 too.
I też jestem z Polski 😉
Can't wait for the manual swap!
Love your shows mannn especially the one with the master brake cylinder cuz I too was like what is that noise
Great stuff, watch all the videos here in Dubai UAE
Thank you! Greeting from the USA! 👊
Sweetness. I’m guessing this wouldn’t work too well for track use right?
With the rights pads and rotors, sure. 👍
Greatings From Poland. I do the same swap from LS 400 to GS300.
I will try to find some LS460 calipers for a reasonable price first but may go this route.
Try your local junk yard. I got a pair of ls400 in almost brand new condition for $32
i got a pair off ebay for 110 shipped. like brand new.
Where did you source the correct size stickers for the LS 400 calipers? That's a nice touch- the size looks just right.
Thanks! Unfortunately I cannot find my order. I just looked. I’m pretty sure it was eBay.
What spacer did you talk about at the beging of the Video? the one at the lower ball joint? Did you make it or can you buy it from somewhere? LOVE your car and all the mods you have done over the years.
Hi - thanks! It’s an 18mm roll center adjuster. I got it years ago from SAGE. Not sure he still sells them. There are other options out there. 👍
Informative video! Curious if you could list links to parts/materials used if you have them handy. Thanks!
Thanks! Unfortunately a buddy gave me the brakes so I don’t have links. Sorry!
@@ForwardMomentum No worries! Thanks anyway.
@@shreeveco They still sell these calipers. 47750-50102 47730-50102
Your videos not only show how to do it, but also show how it should be done correctly.
So us viewers can breeze right on through the project. Text book sir... thanks
I'm contemplating getting some A80/TTSUPRA brakes an using them for the fronts an swap the LS400 to the rear for a full "big brake kit" idk if it has been done but it should be relatively easy just gona have a buddy CNC some billet double mounts to add a stand alone rear hydro drift brake if possible but 4sure Wana try the TTSUPRA front LS400 rear comb
Sounds like a cool idea! I will tell you that very few have exceeded the capability of the stock rears, even as tiny as they are. Go for it though! Keep us posted. 👊
@@ForwardMomentum o ya the oem rears are plenty fine especially if you upgrade to a drilled &or slotted quality disc with some EBC yellow/blue pads or HAWK equivalent also adding some quality steel brake lines will always help along with using dot5 fluid where possible because the oem brakes do get some heat fade Ive noticed we have a group in my area that basically sets up exactly like the latest optima street car challenge run during Sema an doing an a 2mile sprint track with x4 hot laps
Another great video for GS owners... where was that 16" wheel making contact, on the face of the caliper? Would a spacer help it fit?
Thanks. Yeah, but the spacer would have to be pretty big. I wonder how the 16’s on some LS’s fit? Hmmm
@@ForwardMomentum it depends on the offset! Usually with the 95-00 ls400 caliper upgrade, you need about +45mm offset. At least that’s how it is for us 90-94 ls400 guys. This is one of my favorite upgrades and always recommend it for people who want nice brakes for cheap. Nice vid and awesome car! 👌
@@jdm_donny Maybe you know how mutch more do these calipers stick out than stock GS or LS 90-94 calipers, I'd love to upgrade, but I already have nice aftermarket wheels so I wonder if these calipers would fit. Now the gap between stock caliper and spokes around 10mm, I know that in theory I could use spacers but my 8J rims sit very close to the fender arch
So quick question. I normally see people using roads when upgrading to bigger breaks and I noticed you didn't use it and it looks like it's no issues. So do I need rca's or not? Lol. I'll be running 95 ls400 breaks
Roads? I think you have a typo in there. LMK what you meant. 😎
Nice video! What year LS 400 are these calipers and rotors? Thanks!
My friend gave them to me and he didn’t know. Sorry!
Iirc 1997-2000 LS calipers and rotors are the ones you need.
Do you use the original caliper bracket bolts? or the ones that come with the LS400 calipers?
Thanks!
I’m sorry, I did it so long ago I cannot remember. My friend sent me everything so I didn’t pay as much attention as if I pieced it together on my own. When you get the LS calipers grab the bolts to be safe if you can.
Did you use a wheel spacer? It kind of looks like it at the end but I couldnt tell.
No, not in the front. In the rear I run 25mm spacers.
Hi, question regarding roll center adjusters:
I understand the overall idea behind them, but there is something that bothers me & I haven't found any speciffic answer to my doubt's on any forum. Don't they affect suspension's geometry somehow? Don't they add ride hight? When doing realingment procedure will i need to make some corrections with these spacers installed?
Greetings from Poland ;)
Hello! They do effect geometry, yes. They add positive camber and they actually lower the car the same thickness they happen to be. So if you lower the car and camber goes negative, it can be corrected a certain amount. That’s the simple version. There are more detailed explanations online as there are other small effects. Greetings from the USA!
For the brake pads? What brake pads did you use? Do all ls400 of that year use the same front brakes?
The brake kit and pads were given to me and my friend wasn’t sure what year they came from. That’s why I didn’t include the info in the video.
Looking good bro!!
Did the RCAs drop your height any? My GS430 is on coilovers and I don't want it much lower, if it all really. Want to know if I'm gonna have to readjust my coilovers.
Yes. It drops the car as much as the RCA thickness is.
Love it
Wanna do this on my 01 gs430
16s won't fit, but the stock wheels on my 01gs 430 are 17 inch
Think they will fit?
You’ll most likely need a 20-25mm wheel spacer in addition to a 17mm+ RCA. Just depends on wheel design and offset.
@@ForwardMomentum ok
Cool appreciate it
You think a 17" wheel would fit no spacers 5 spoke? Platinum Edition
No idea. It depends on so many things like offset, wheel design, etc.
Hey live the channell and detailed you and angles you set camera so we could see.question whats the name and size of those rims ?thanks !
Thanks! 2012 GS350 (and other models) 18x8 wheels.
@@ForwardMomentum thanks brotha
I've always thought that a bracket needed to be bolted on to make that upgrade work
Maybe you’re thinking of 460 brakes?
Do it running ???I bleed my supra up graded brakes and over night the resiovior is over filling then goes to max line once started
Yes. When the pump kicks on the level should drop. As you bleed someone needs to be there to keep the level up. Sorry for the delay; I have been working and installing a supercharger. 😎
Just to clarify the gs doesn’t need the offset spacers/adapters to bolt the calipers on the the spindle like the is300? I wasnt sure if they were direct bolt on like the sc300/400s?
Calipers on spindles is direct bolt on as shown in the vid for the GS.
Hey would you know if a Ls 460 BBK would fit with those exact wheels you have? Thank you in advance!
I’m not positive. They might require spacers. XAT may know, since they sell the 460 BBK brackets for the 2GS. Maybe drop them a note and report back? 👍
Thanks for replying so quick! And will do! Love your channel and everything you do for the GS community!
I want to do the same on my sc 400. Where did you get your lexus brakes from?
My friend gave them to me.
great video
I'm getting a noise that sounds like a knife being sharpened, new brakes and rotors or old it doesn't matter it makes the noise. I'm confused and it's driving me crazy
Possible dust shield contacting rotor.
Nice video! So they fit without rca's?!
No. I have 18mm RCAs.
@@ForwardMomentum Could you possibly share what RCA's you have? Also I'm pretty sure that the LS400 calipers are from a 1995-2000 LS400 but maybe share that info with people because they might be confused and get the newer calipers from 2001 and up?
@@JL-kz2ts I have Sage 18mm RCAs. Since production of the LS400 ceased in 2000 (chassis code XF20, I figured it was fairly clear which brakes I had. Plus 430 and 460 will work as noted in the video, but that wasn’t my focus. I guess it’s too late to clarify but maybe I’ll add some info in the vid description.
do you run RCA kit the clear the caliper from hitting the steering knuckle ? i have gs400 but i do not have to cut the dusk shield
Correct. No idea how you avoided cutting the shield. I had no choice.
@@ForwardMomentum i have not idea either, i have it with both Supra caliper and LS400 no cut. but my braking system still suck no matter how much i bleed the system...... it making clunking noise everytime I'm not the brake coming to the stop or just park and press on the brake ..... very nice gs400 btw
What year ls400? Can't find any with the Lexus stamp
Nevermind, looks like you stenciled them. Nice job 👍🏼
The gs350 wheel ran in the front with no spacer??? Iam running a gs400 wheel 17in and I had to use a spacer.
Correct. No secrets. Exactly what’s shown on the vid.
@@ForwardMomentum thanks, I think its time for a wheel swap for me
Love your gs dude.. Newbie questions, just got a gs300 and want to do this. What year ls400 calipers? And do you need any special adapters to the calipers besides the rca's?
Thank you.
I’m sorry, the calipers were given to me so I don’t know what year they came from. No special brackets needed although some people have reported that with certain wheels they needed a wheel spacer. Mine was within about 1-2mm, but thankfully I did not need a spacer.
@@ForwardMomentum thank you
would is300 rotors fit gs chassis by any chance jus out of curiosity
Bolt pattern is the same. However, diameter will need some research. I’m seeing conflicting measurements online in regards to diameter and some sites list them as the same. I don’t have a definitive answer for you.
Do you know if this mod will clear the stock 17’s
I do not know for certain.
Some need wheel spacers.
Lastly where did you purchase your RCA? Not sure if I should get the one you have or the 30mm one from Megan?
@@garytaylor5628 I got mine 8 years ago or so from Sage on CL.
What size is your rims will stock 17 work
18x8. 17’s can work, it just depends on design.
Can I reuse the gs caliper bolts or do I need longer ones
I reused mine, but please double check that it’s what others do. What matters is fastener grip length, so measuring the thickness of the OEM caliper vs the LS should give you the answer.
Are the inserts necessary? Or complete bolt on?
If you mean the RCA’s yes, they are. 17mm minimum.
@@ForwardMomentum I know to use the RCAs. I'm talking about the press in eccentric nut inserts for the calipers.
Is there a specific time stamp you can direct me to so I can see what you mean?
Can you remove the dust cover with the hub still in? I'm planning on doing this swap at the same time as I rebuild and paint all my suspension
I don’t think so. I tried and it was being held in by the hub design. So I just cut it.
@@ForwardMomentum no adapters needed.?!
Sorry, adapters for what? To make my wheel type fit, no, obviously not. However, some wheel designs will require a hub adapter. Unfortunately the answer isn’t a simple yes or no.
@@ForwardMomentum I wanna do my gs300 ls400 big brakes but the adopters are not worth $80 lol I wanna do it but not too expensive lol
@@jaytalent45 it’s all about wheel size, design and offset. I hear you about keeping costs down!
For the brake lines did you use gs or ls?
As noted in the vid, these were SS lines put on by the previous owner.
saw another video where a guy put a spacer in between control arm and the tie rod. you didnt do it though so i guess it was useless?
\
Correct. No point for me.
Does this work on a 2001 gs430 with 17 inch rims
Depends on the wheel style.
You left your rear brakes stock?
Correct.
Will LS430 front and rear calipers fit?
I’m not sure. Sorry.
How are you liking the brake upgrade brotha??? I've been running 400 brakes for about 4yrs now an I've enjoyed them but they have this horrendous random squelch/squeal that I can't sus out 🤷♂️ shit is driving me FUCKIN BONKERZ 🤦♂️😅
I like them a lot. Mine squeal in reverse when cold. Not sure why. I hate that sound.
Do 17 inch wheels fit?
Depends.
Could I do this. To the 3GS?
I don’t know. You may need to research it.
Niceeee man
Diff video soon?
3 weeks
Where do you find roll center adjusters?
Megan Racing, Figs, etc.
@@ForwardMomentum thanks. I'd like to upgrade my 03 gs430 brakes since it'll need brakes soon
@ForwardMomentum also I see you have the bigger lexus wheels. Do the ls400 brakes fit with the factory 17 inch 7 spokes do you know?
I’m sorry, I don’t know for certain.
@@ForwardMomentum I can't find anything in forums on it either. Unless I'm looking in the wrong one.
Ga. I recently ascertained a gs300 aristo which basically the same.e as the gs400. Nees proper guidance regarding my project. Does it have a 6 piston brakes from and lexua model that can work on the gs300/400 vehicles. Hit me up via private message. Don't want my build online etc. Till ots finished. Plz help.
Where's the rca step?
Not shown because I installed RCAs years prior to my RUclips channel starting.
Dump spare tyre and use a can of tyre weld + small compressor and you will save weight too
I have considered that. In the end I decided not to because that goop destroys the tire. So in the event of a plug scenario, I just ruined a tire to save 20lbs.
Will 17's fit?
Wheel design and offset matters more than diameter. Generally RCAs and a wheel spacer is needed, with some exceptions.
@@ForwardMomentum was planning on buying a set of gs400 17" wheels as daily? That's the reason why I asked
I honestly don’t know for sure. But I’m fairly certain you’ll need 17mm RCA’s and a 5-10mm wheel spacer. Don’t quote me on that though.
All the dropping sounds, should cut it into sound effects for future videos
Wow it barely clears the 18s you have on there 😅
I know. That surprised me a lot. Apparently LS 16’s will work, so I guess it’s all about wheel design. 🤔
@@ForwardMomentum hmm I guess offset really does matter 😅

What year ls400 are those brakes from
They were given to me so I don’t have that info. Sorry!
