I think Death Wolf is more a Catalysator for the character-developing of puss himself. But not just a catalysator. Death doesnt care about money, or how famous he is, but he wanted to be respected as a final and unchangleble point in everyones live - so to value the live itself - because if its something that rare - the value is priceless. However, Puss was the one who never showed any respect and value for the 9 lives he got. So death took it very personal to do it by itself - unless Puss was able to stepp down from his huge ego and change himself. And thats whats happen in the story.
I love this character of the wolf. The way he shows upo, and also how he act - even as an overpowered warrior, he treats everything with the respect that it deserved.
He doesnt gets enough screentime, but the one he gets is enough to lift himself on a level like Darth Vader.
The true villan however is not death wolf, its the crazy collecting guy.
Really hope to see this lovely character of a wolf again - maybe as a spinoff or something else. Or in the next shrek in some dark corners, when someone doesnt make it.
