Great, informative video. I’ve found that when I’ve had to spray paint jigs outdoors I’ll hang the jigs inside of a big cardboard box with 1 side removed. It helps prevent wind and dirt messing with the jig and contains the overspray and stops everywhere getting painted.
I started making my own feathers and pike flies last year with sale rail and clearance materials I bought from various local and online stores. After an initial outlay of about £50, including a vice and a heat gun, I made 100 three hook mackie traces, and around 30 single flies/lures in a week. I still have more than half of what I bought, and most of what I made. After a quick calculation, and some numbers I pulled out of my arse, I think it works out to around 10p in materials for each one. I over engineered them, and made them way more elaborate than neccessary, but if I had just made basic feathers tied to a hook lures, then it would have worked out at around 2p each. I didn't include the cost of the line, because I have about 2 miles of it on various spools in my tackle cupboard. it's pennies a metre anyway. It can be time consuming and a bit dull, but I have at least 3 seasons worth of rigs for very little money.
Thank you Billy for that incredibly informative video, I'm definitely going to be having a go at that. I'd love to go down the membership route so that I don't miss a single upload but, the pension only goes so far. Ho, hum. I really do appreciate you sharing your hard earned skill with us all. Well done that man. 👍
A couple of days ago I was thinking . Where is Billy? Glad to see You back. I have these downtimes aswell. There will be hooks , lines ets in the whole house My girlfriend geds complete bananas.😂
Great video mate. I bet it took a good few failures and lots of tweaks to get to that lovely final result. Nice to share your expertise with everyone and lets face it tackle is bloody expensive, particularly when it can be lost to difficult ground so easily... Thanks for sharing buddy 😊
Great off season job to do!! Nearding with gear and optimize boxes, Lubing reels, cleaning rods and so on… In that Way we feel great prepping for the Bonanza 😎Wich is a part of fishing🎣
Do you think it would be possible to press the foil onto a lure like a toby or would it be too curved for those heat pads to conform to? The silver/copper tobys are expensive theae days as they dont make them anymore.
You can foil any lure, so long as it is smooth enough! But since they come with a nice finish normally! it seems a little like gilding a lily. On the other hand if they have already been, used and look tired. It is a nice way to refresh some old ones.
@Billyfishing_watch I guess I'll give it a bash and find out, it's £4 for a silver or copper but a silver/copper is £20-40, so we'll worth buying some foil to experiment with 👍
Thanks Billy. You are not shy to spread your knowledge. I bet I will screw it all up when I try even after your expert guidance. However, I am going to ask you, how do you cast your jigs? Have you done a video on that?
Hi Garrie. No I do not have a video on that. But it is exactly the same as making lead weights. I made a member's post today with all the links you will need to get started. Don't worry about messing it up everybody does the first few times. Thanks brother 😁👌
No, I think old car batteries would be a mistake! It sounds a little dangerous. Old wheel weights are the answer. Fry your local mechanic or tire center. Thanks brother 👌
I have tried 2 component epoxy resin to _cold_ transfer my foils. It did work. I have an epoxy resin that cures in 20 hours and when it is like 6 hours past (I mean when it is in the form of honey) I sticked the foils for transfer.
Very interesting video! Thank you Billy for sharing your knowledge as always (valuable all over the world). 😚Im actually launching a serious fishing brand, primarly focusing on Lines (braid x4, X8, mono, fluoro), 2nd brand is alll jigs, 3rd brand is apparels and all needed tools for fishing in confort! Thanks for sharing buddy 😊
Thanks Gary. It really stings when you lose an expensive lure first cast. At least this way the pain is mitigated. Much appreciated Brother 😁👌

so how do you paint them again 🤔🤔😝
Just for you Matt! 🤣
@Billyfishing_watch Xlol
We've been waiting for it ! Thank you brother! But where do you get the lead for the jigs? Old car battery?)
No, I think old car batteries would be a mistake! It sounds a little dangerous. Old wheel weights are the answer. Fry your local mechanic or tire center. Thanks brother 👌
Evening billy, what type of melting gear do you use to melt and pour the lead
Cheers bud
I use a gas blow torch, and type of rocket stove I put together. To pour a use a Turkish coffee pot. Thanks brother 😁👌

Nice 👌
Thanks Billy really helpful I am so going to make some but 30 grams would suit me better and then I'll stick it straight into a snag 😂
I'm pretty sure if you look on the back of savage gear lures, it says those exact words 🤣 thanks Jozse 😁👌
The biggest challenge is finding lead.
I think it all depends where you are!
