Collins and Block are my two favorite authors by a country mile. Those two will never know how much joy they have brought to my life.

Fabulous interview. I could listen to Max for hours. He is tremendously versatile and his enthusiasm really shines through. I'll definitely seek out 'Mike Hammer's Mickey Spillane'.

I will admit, Heath, I was hesitant to listen to a two hour interview on youtube; but you two interacting together made the experience feel more like 15 minutes. In fact, I am disappointed that it isn't longer! I look forward to your next interview with Mr. Collins. I was also surprised that someone of his stature lives less than 40 miles from me, in the great state of Iowa. You keep knocking it out of the park with all of these great interviews, Heath! Well done.

Thanks for checking it out! The kindest compliment from people is hearing that the two hours flew by and they wanted more. Y'all please remember, you can also take the Cereal At Midnight podcast with you wherever you go in audio form, available everywhere you get podcasts!

52:09 "Something very odd happened..." I chuckled pretty loud when he finished that statement.
Amazing, amazing interview. Thanks for sharing, Heath!

Great interview. I am glad to hear he was a part of the filming and premieres of the adaptation movie. So many comic writers have been ignored in major studio adaptations of comics to film.

Damn Heath, that's a nice get. I never read his books, but i love the Road to Perdition movie (still waiting for the 4k) and the comic adaptation

Thanks to Max for the confirmation of how I always felt about "The Untouchables". The story as filmed was so wrong as to be insufferable, which made the Odessa Steps parody in the "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult" so much more enjoyable.

Great interview, listened to it yesterday evening in one go. Max Allan Collins is great to listen to. His Quarry novels have been on my list of what to read for years, and now I also got all the background info on them I would ever need, so there is no more reason to wait. 😀

What a great interview! Max has been a big inspiration to me as a writer as well as Westlake, Leonard, and even you too Heath! You consistently have amazing recommendations. Thanks to you both for this great interview!

This was fantastic, Heath. I've read quite a few of his books, but my favorites may be the prequel and two sequel books Max wrote for the Dark Angel tv series. Thanks.

Excellent conversation gentlemen! I’m a huge fan of ‘Kiss Me Deadly’ the film, I’m not very familiar with the novels.
I’m fascinated by film novelizations though, you’ve given me a big list of new things to look into now.
    Keep up the great work!

I'm coming to this video late, and recently received the 4 film Blu Ray of the Dick Tracy movies. Collins did a commentary for each film, which were Ok except he spent too much time talking about himself and Chester Gould and not enough about the movies and their stars. He talked down to them as "B programmers" which of course they were. I do recommend the VCI 4 film Dick Tracy release.

I don't think they wore their welcome out by the time of the second Sin City, I think they just waited way too long to make it plus the two new movie only stories in the 2nd one were very bad. There were plenty of stories from the actual comics that could have been in those slots instead.
