I work for the largest ‘restoration’ firm specializing in 964s…cough cough. We notice more power with our (highly optimized) plenums compared to stacks. Stacks look and sound cool, at a sacrifice.
when you said "9hp down low, oh thats not that much" i died inside... this car is NA not turbocharged. getting 9 horsepower downlow like that is HUGE. you have to remove the stigma of adding 1lb of boost and seeing 20hp gain. NA is a whole different car. NA 200hp vs 210hp is huge. 220 is gigantic.
As a very unsponsored and not rich 15 Si owner I cant stress this enough. wanting to stay NA and get gains without going crazy is almost non existent. But what happens is a level of refinement that makes a normal car faster than the other normal cars while still remaining normal, Even newer ones.
I run my aircooled VW on E85, it's night and day. Twin carbs too, no EFI. Shit's amazing. If you make a "Life's too short for pump gas" shirt, I'll buy it!
Why Fuel Doesn’t Compete with Air Think of the intake manifold as a pipe carrying both air and fuel. When the injector sprays fuel into the air, it doesn’t occupy the space of air; rather, the fuel becomes suspended as droplets or vapor in the moving air. This air-fuel mixture is still primarily composed of air (because the fuel ratio is typically around 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel in gasoline engines). The injector being open or closed doesn’t change the volume or velocity of the air moving through the manifold. While larger injectors are closed more often, this doesn’t mean there’s “more air” in the intake manifold when they’re closed. Airflow into the manifold is constant and determined by the engine’s throttle position and valve timing. The presence of fuel in the manifold simply creates an air-fuel mixture; it doesn’t replace or reduce air volume.
@@jbrzdy3785 Yeah, but he still needs the same total volume of fuel going into the engine to achieve the same desired AFR. Otherwise in this "big injectors = less fuel in the air" theory, it would run lean. Its just spraying more fuel at once than the smaller injectors would, but the same volume is present.
Working on my LS swap has sent me down a rabbit hole and I have learned that what you’re chasing after with a large injector(besides more fuel) is greater control in regard to injector end angle. The shorter amount of time your injector is spraying gives you more control as to when the injector is spraying in relation to your intake valve opening and closing events.
Basically Adam longer intake runners means more low and midrange gains and torque. Shorter runners more High end hp and narrower power band. More HP at top of rpm range.
Merry Christmas Adam... I'm on my first holiday in 9 years, I left the cold old UK to go to nice warm Tenerife! I hope you a collete and a wonderful 2025 and can't wait to see what comes of next year. Thanks for all the content this year, I've loved every millisecond of it and I'll be here forever 💚
Hey Adam, I’ve had problems with flare adapters leaking, I now flare the steel hardline and use an AN nut. Mastercool has a nice handheld hydraulic flare tool, you just need to buy the AN adapters from them separately. It’s easy, leak free and cleaner
These cars are just awesome driving machines and honestly Adam I think the colour choice just makes the car look so good, I think for a N/a car that's a reasonable increase, awesome content as always keep it up
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Adam, Collete and the whole LZ and Drift Works team. Thank you for the amazing content this year and I'm looking forward to the 2025 content.
We did a lot of E85 conversions on air cooled porsches. Power wise gains were bigger on the high comp/large cam modified stroker motors, the other benefit was that we would see 12-20c lower cylinder head temp, which was a great benefit on the circuit. Larger injectors also allow you the ability to work on fuel timing for fuel for open/closed valve to sometimes get a small power gain. Once injector duty is much over 70%, fuel timing becomes less sensitive
All fun and games with the fuel comparisons until you realize that ignite red costs 4 dollars a litre so that's about 16 dollars a gallon and your cars consumption shoots up when you're chasing the "perfect setup"
I agree the conversation is worth it to keep the detention down if it was just a stock street car then no but me personally stock is not worth it I have to mod everything lol!!!! Killer video I always liked those motors!!!!!!
10whp seems like a pretty reasonable gain for ethanol on an NA setup with no other changes(for a street motor). Curious to see how other mods affect it.
Adam LZ Awesome Video I think it's awesome that your Absolutely Gorgeous 964 Carrera 2 made 355WHP and I'm glad you enjoyed your First Drive and Merry Christmas to you your entire team and all of your Subscribers
(I know this is not the same) but so many people tell me “running e85 in your truck is literally pointless, yeah it’s cheaper but your economy is worse and you’re not making more power” I drive a 2014 gmc Sierra SLT Z71 1500. 5.3L LT, 3.42 rear gear and g80 diff. It is a flex fuel vehicle and I can tell a huge difference in the performance just by running pump e85 vs regular 87. It changes my timing, cylinder temps, and so many other benefits. YES I GET 8 MPG. But who cares lol. I am a huge e85 believer and lover
Love your 964!!! Did you all consider changing out the fuel pressure regulator? They have an old school rubber diaphragm inside that is prone to failure and is likely not compatible with ethanol.
We'd be happy to send you our TriboCeramic engine treatments to get even more protection (and lower oil temps) along with a few extra ponies (typically 5-12rwhp).
Regarding the injector size theory: If a higher impulse time would decreases the potential total volume of fuel, well, with bigger injectors you "would have more fuel" and therefor the mixture would be richer, and with smaller injectors "you'd have less fuel" and a leaner mixture. What I mean is that if you are targeting a mixture of 14 AFR, then, it has to be "x" amount of fuel and "y" amount of air, no matter what. That's my personal take on the discussion, and why I'd not believe the theory.
"I just love the idea of chasing an optimal set up" it made me happy to hear you say that because I live by this with my car. I will never chase HP (unless a goal is in mind) but I ALWAYS crave whatever is the healthiest, most optimized setup for my car. A lot of that has to do with the respect of wanting the car happy and proper. Cheers Adam
You should try and find a beat up old porsche something you wouldnt feel bad cutting up and do a widebody kit full race car make it as crazy as possible
What space is the injector taking up?? This old Porsche isn’t direct injected. I would say it’s more important to have short pulse so the ethanol enters the cylinder quicker so it screws less with the flow of the runner during low lift.
I don't think it matters if it's a smaller injector or not it is still giving you the same amount of fuel, and spraying more and the faster it opens and closes doesn't affect volume of air, still takes up the same amount of space regardless of how it is. Just my opinion.
Happy Holidays everyone! Remember to hit the like button on the video if you enjoy it - it makes a huge difference

Surre bud well believe you off of your word. Name company don't be a sissy otherwise it's bs
id say that adjustable 787 style stacks would be interesting when compared to a plenum
Stacks + custom carbon box
Why not just say how much more power? Because it isn't enough to justify the price tag???
when you said "9hp down low, oh thats not that much" i died inside... this car is NA not turbocharged. getting 9 horsepower downlow like that is HUGE.

Just dropped 3k on cams - extra 8hp baby

Nothing like a new LZ video on Christmas morning in Aus!!
Merry Xmas down under 🎄🤙🏴
The 964 has been an amazing build series! I'd love to see another air-cooled build with some forced induction!

There's a lot more science and math in there. You've way oversimplified it.
If there’s gas in the air there’s still less air…

Never thought I would hear the day that Canada's gas was spicy lol. I always thought American gas was better then what we had here.
Petro 94 Octane is some of the best pump gasoline you can find in NA
In Texas we have 93 but majority of places only have 91
Yeah same here I live in America myself. Always thought we had the best gas but guess not
Canadian gas is on par with California gas. It’s trash compared to the east coast in the states
@g32k We have the same situation. We have 94, but most of them aren't even 94. Just label that to make more money.

Don't get lazy now. The battery is right there. Get a relay with some heavy wire and use the oem wire as a trigger.
Brother, you're up 40 horse on an NA car. That's insane. You can't compare NA gains to boost gains so every hp counts.
