    This enables a host of new medium-length point-to-point routes, even for airlines who mainly-operate wide-bodied aircraft, connecting many more destinations into their hubs ... as the XLR becomes available. One might also wonder whether this might be the breakthrough, which enables LCCs to break into long-haul, profitably ? Exciting times, over the next decade, for passengers !

    I was thinking the launch customer could be IAG but knew it couldn't be Aer Lingus. So it didn't surprise me that it's expected to be Iberia. But I could see it being a potential future order for Aer Lingus whenever it needs to upgrade its fleet in the future as they fly the A321 transatlantic and used to have the Boeing 757 on the Shannon to Boston route before they were an all Airbus fleet. It could offer them more year round route possibilities where demand for the A330 passenger numbers would only be seasonal.

    The only way to get a good aircraft at a decent timeline.
    A321XLR, since being a new aircraft, has a way shorter backlog.
    And it's not a Boeing aircraft, it's not a aircraft that uses P&W engines, at least not yet, so let's hope the launch goes smoothly.
    The only thing i would like to see changed, or added in this case, is a third engine option, since P&W has major problems as we know,
    maybe RR? Just shooting from the hip here, but the more options the better, and with so many engines having issues atm that lead to groundings
    exclusively due to the issues with set engines and not the aircraft itself, a third engine option might be nice.

  • @jfmezei
    @jfmezei 6 месяцев назад

    It used to be that wide bodies had wider seats to make long haul comfortable. With Boeing and airlines densifying coach cabins to have narrow seats and reduced meal services it has made the A320 family now more comfortable for long haul and with equal meal capacity with their small galleys. So until airline accountants find a way to fit 7 across on a 321, flying the Airbus narrowbodies on long haul has become the better option in coach.
    The quote about costing half is very misleading. The absolute costs may be half, but cost per passenger would still be higher than on a larger aircraft.

  • @neilpickup237
    @neilpickup237 6 месяцев назад

    Now that the range deficiency has been eliminated, I wonder just how many routes currently operated by 757s are left where it is not possible to substitute with the Airbus?
    I am sure that once more powerful engines are available, it would be possible to remedy this final(?) hurdle, but the question will inevitably be - would there be enough demand to cover the development and certification costs?
    I suspect that this may be the final significant upgrade to the A320 series, unless Airbus surprise us with a lightweight composite wing to allow a further stretch that is!

  • @johnkim8957

    Too bad Delta didn’t order this A321XLR, now they are stuck with B757’s and B767’s for another 20 years, that will make them 50 years old🥲

    • @StallionFX1
      @StallionFX1 6 месяцев назад +20

      I seriously doubt that Delta will keep operating aircraft that old. They will most likely be forced to upgrade their medium-sized narrowbody fleet relatively soon. I personally think it's too early to completly count Delta out from ordering the A321XLR. These past few years have been very unpredictable in the aviation industry (good and bad).

      Not sure what the XLR has to do with the 767s. Delta is replacing those with A330s it seems. They’re replacing their 757s with A321neos which offer the same capacity. Delta doesn’t use their 757s for long haul routes anyways so I don’t think they really need the range of the XLR.

  • @jfmezei

    There is reciprocal acceptance of type certificates between Canada, Europe , USA.
    FAA-ANAC-TCCA-EASA Reciprocal Acceptance : ... "Additionally, FAA will accept an EASA ETSOA for an article from the European Union (EU) and will no longer issue a LODA for the same article, while EASA will accept the FAA’s TSOA for an article from the U.S. without issuing an ETSOA for the same article."
    So the FAA will rubber stamp the 321XLR type certificate quire rapidly.
    What surprises me is that in the past, for instance, the 777, deliveries bec=gane on day of certificate issuance. To have such a delay for the 321XLR is strange and might point to production problems. Unless the "launch" customer for those engines is not ready to accept delivery and Aribus not allowed to deliver to any other airline with those engines because that customer has in its contract that it is to be first to get delivery.
