That is a beautiful Case barlow! I really like how case does their barlows but I don't have one yet. Hopefully they start putting a little more effort on fit and finish in the future.
I really love the classic design of a barlow, it’s timeless! The show side bone is gorgeous! I agree there is something weird with the shield but not a dealbreaker for me! Thanks for showing it!!
@@ThriftyKaniffy It is a good one. Nicely matched, symmetrical covers, two months later the blade is still centered, showing appropriate pocket wear from daily carry. Blade pull and snap is good, with a little chatter on the closing action. I like it!
Just ordered this in same 6.5 bone stag, excited to get it. thanks for the video. right now in 6.5 bone stag i have the folding hunter, mako and hammerhead. they're all great!
Wow… fantastic Barlow 🔥🔥🔥😎 That bone is exquisite….. Despite the minor issues I love it…. ❤️ Really like those single blade versions…. Fantastic review… thanks John 😎🙏🏻
I like traditional style, single blade knives. I just never quite understood the need for a knife with all those extra blades. I cut stuff. If the one blade is sharp and will cut stuff, i'm good. I guess I'm just simple.
Another great review TK! I love mine. Came almost Centered, but the jigging on the pile side goes into the bolster. Yah can see it under the bolster. I still love it! Ive gotta 6.5 copperhead on the way and picked up the mini wharncliffe trapper in this series!
I really like the single-blade Barlow. Those always seem more difficult to find for some reason. I think the one that you're showing is the style that I've been seeking.
I have a Case Trapper with an arrowhead shield that has a crease in the shield. There is also a spot where you can slightly feel one of the pins. I got the knife as a special through Shepherd Hills. I'm assuming the imperfections were the reason for $44.99 price. It will make a very nice user knife. Peace, Brother.
Thanks Donnie. Looks like they tapered the shield to match the groove in the jigging rather than recess it. Looks a little odd, but the blade centering is the bigger concern.
About twenty percent of my ordered Case Knives are perfect to nearly perfect About seventy percent are good to fair and less than ten percent are poor quality I own over 100 Case Knives and have only sent two back And those were replaced without problems I love the Barlow TK Stag and Bonestag are such uneven surfaces that it’s difficult to seat a shield That’s why I wish they would mark the bolster and leave the shield off
Shield less is the way to go. Especially if you're not bothering to pin it. I never worry about carrying a knife with no shield. It's crushing to get home and find it gone. Yeah, you can fix it, but that's not the point.
@@KennethKellogg-kt7bf I have never lost a shield but I prefer the clean look of no shield on a Barlow They have that big bolster just begging for a logo
It’s a good looking knife, but what gripes me is made in USA with domestic and global materials. If the blades , scales, springs and bolsters are made in china and the pins are domestic then may as well get 4 Rough Ryders . Don’t know which parts are global but the devil could be in the details.
It does have a very nice look to it, i don't know if was the way you were holding it and the camera angle but the badge look like it is lower then the right side, still nice
I think slipjoints are a good thing but most of them are nail breakers when trying to open them. The swiss army knife is probably the only slipjoint I would get, otherwise I stay with a flipper/thumb stud knives .
Lovely Barlow, I would have removed the case badge and engraved the case billboarding on the larger bolster with decorative patterns on both bolsters to fancy it up a touch 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just ordered this and the gray bone with carbon steel. I've had very good luck with the last couple of Case's I'd bought but now I'm nervous. I don't expect perfection from them but that blade centering is way off. Great looking knife though.
Case can fix the centering issue. It just sucks that you have to send it in. I’m not a fan of that particular Case shield. It’s one thing that it’s glued and not pinned, but it looks cheap. Otherwise, I love this knife.
Do you think the incomplete sharpening job is so someone can tell if a returned knife has been sharpened? dont they usually frown on that when someone is trying to sell a new unused knife thats been sharpened by someone?
Hello there Thrifty, long time since I last commented. I feel a sense of disappointment for your having that bit of blade rub. I actually stopped buying Case knives on account of that reason and the reticence of the retailer taking any responsibility for selling me a knife whose blade actually collided with the liner, that's how crooked it was. Yet I have some faultless Case knives of which I'm very proud. I stopped collecting for a while just about all knives, but my interest has returned and I'm looking around again. In looking around I've discovered the almost complete lack of Rough Ryder knives and others from suppliers here in Australia. Pretty disappointing and the postage from the US since C19 is more than I'm prepared to pay. Anyhow I'm going to watch some of your reviews and by some I mean a whole bunch. All the best, Jeff.
Thanks so much Jeff. I really appreciate your patronage. It can be discouraging at times, though I try and inform my viewers that Case can be gamble and to be prepared to lose if you want to play the game. Thanks again for your encouraging words.
Love your barlow. Five or six months ago I saw a Case Barlow in Jade Green handle. It was very beautiful. If you got yours for 72 dollars in todays world I think you got a fair deal. I SAW A COLLECTORS EDITION FOR SIXTY OR 65 A YEAR OR TWO BACK, I WISH I HAD BOUGHT IT. THE ONLY THING I QUESTION IS THAT STAINLESS STEEL MIGHT NOT SHARPEN AS EASILY AS PLAIN CARBON STEEL. THE STAINLESS WILL RETARD RUST BUT FOR AN EDGE THE PLAIN CARBON MIGHT MAKE MORE SENSE. AS TO THE CASE PLAQUE, I WAS SORRY TO SEE THE OLD OVAL SHIELD GO I THOUGHT IT LOOKED MORE PROFESSIONAL AND DIGNIFYED. HOWEVER THE NEW SHIELD LETS YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A MORE MODERN KNIFE AND THEREFORE HOPEFULLY BETTER METALURGY AND FORGING. I AGREE ONE SHOULD BUY A CASE KNIFE IN PERSON TO MAKE SURE IT MEETS WITH ONES OWN APPROVAL. NICE KNIFE, GENUINE BONE IS SCARCE I THINK YOU GOT A GOOD DEAL. I CHIPED THE TIP OFF MY NEW BUCK KNIFE THE OTHER DAY. IM NOT SURE IF I WAS AT FAULT OR THE METAL WAS TOO BRITTLE OR BOTH. OLD BUCK KNIVES MAY BE BETTER THAN NEW ONES. BUCK WAS BRAGGING ABOUT THEIR STEEL FORMULA OVER ONE OF THE CHANNELS BUT IM NOT NOW TOO KEEN ON BUCK KNIVES. IM SURE MINE WAS MADE IN CHINA. I APPOLOGIZE TO BUCK KNIVES USA BUT THATS JUST HOW I FEEL. IM STILL A LOYAL CASE KNIFE FAN. THANKS FOR SHOWING YOUR BEAUTIFUL CASE BARLOW, I LOOK F ORWARD TO FINDING ONE OF MY OWN.😅
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Chris, and welcome to the channel. The carbon is easier to sharpen, but the stainless isn't difficult to do either, really. Just takes a little know how. The Barlow is a great pattern, good luck.
Nice knife .........but I'll wait for Rough Ryder to knock out a copy ( with better Q.C./ fit and finish ) for $25.00 . P.S. It will be better packaged as well .
That style of handle makes adding a shield difficult. The groove in the stag bone is so deep that the shield has no choice but to slope downwards. The only way to prevent that would be for the shield to be recessed in the thicker portion of the handle towards the bolster. But then that would be worse, in my opinion. Just no way to make that shield flat otherwise. There's another, popular channel that has, in my opinion, been trashing Case lately and I stopped watching it. I'm glad that this channel can be honest and point out Case's shortcomings without being mean about it. If you believe what is said on that other channel, especially in he comments, Case should just torch their factory and get out of the knife business altogether. I'm not a Case fanboy, but I do own several, and the ones I have are just fine. When people have issues with quality from Case, I hope they reach out to Case with their concerns and not just whine online about it. That might make people feel better, but it doesn't help improve anything in the long run.
Thanks great review. Nice looking knife but Case seems to be getting worse as time goes by.The $ standard for premium knives should be raised to todays standards say 55- $60.
They just need to raise their QC standards, if you know the risk you gotta be willing to accept it when you buy sight unseen. You can blame Case, but I knew what to expect and I laid out the money anyway. And ...that's why they probably will never do anything more about it.
Do not buy Case Knives over the internet, quality control is crap. I got a Smoky Mountain Knife Works exclusive sodbuster from Case and the quality was absolute garbage I had to send it back. I have some Rough Rider knives that cost me $16 that are much better than Case. You have to buy case knives in person so you can QC yourself, I am definitely over Case knives!
I love case knives since I was little but you’re right the qc is bad. I got a razor knife and the blades pull was so bad when you would go to close it it wouldn’t even close right. It would stay open a bit. I sent it to case hopefully they fix it right.
I wish it was that easy, I live out in a remote part of the desert in eastern California mail service is my only way to purchase. I even have to drive to get my mail...
