I bought an old Ford Tractor! Let's cold start it and plow some snow! - Vice Grip Garage EP58

- I needed a hand around the shop. So naturally, I just bought a tractor instead of paying someone to help. I found a really cool old ford 9n south of town and had to have it. It's got a full hydraulic loader, working 3 point with a blade, and she even has high low! It was left in a tree row, and we fought pretty well to get it home. Let's see if it will start, and put it work plowing some snow!

Thank you bud, appreciate you watching
I have been looking for a Ford tractor. Please keep your videos on your repairs coming. Thanks Bobcat 2313
I thought a front loader tractor was an unnecessary luxury until I borrowed my buddies... hope he never needs it back... no going without one again if I can...
Hey thanks. Don't even need to watch the video now. Got all the ol' one-liners right here in the comments.
T VOYDS Well A Fella Like Me Is In The Same Wheel House As A Fella Like U.. Sooooo... It’ll Be Fine.. just fine
I'd definitely like to see more of this.
I second this.

@@ViceGripGarage This Ford tractor video is why I subbed to your channel. I've even watched some of your chevy videos just for laughs. What do Ford and chevy owners have in common? They both want to own Fords.
I, too, have stopped midway through a self inflicted disaster to remind myself that "this is fun".

The tyre chains are good. They are holding the tyres together. its a lovely old tractor. LOL

Your dry humour is king!!! That's the key to all this! And i love it! You apparently learned a lot from your dad. I don't know much about that situation... But i have watched your video's everyday. And kinda feel like your quoting him in your own ways. But i could be wrong. "I dont know". ✌,If he still is around, maybe add him to a few vids. I bet he would be a blast! Man he broke the mold with you! I hope you know that!!!!. He must, or had to be a fighter! Cause you never give up! When life hands you lemons, you just add way to much gas!!!!!!! 😆 maybe I've had too many cold snacks!!!! " I dont know" 😆
"The bad news is it makes no sense financially." Lmao. I've only watched a few of your other videos and to be honest I like them.
18:50 Almost managed to go the whole vidya without a Ford joke, you Chevy guys just can't help yourself! 😂
Ford makes it sooooooo easy...
Fuck that was funny to see the battery sailing over his shoulder, had me chuckling
We can't, lol🤣
You're so right.
Easy pickins' really...
Really enjoy the old tractor videos! I’m in the middle of resurrecting a 1952 Ford 8N that sat under a cedar tree for 15 years! Look forward to seeing more on the old Ford,
And a lil bit of batree juice on the old coveralls is just weight reduction lol!
The eccentric way he speaks of himself in the third-person puts a smile on my face.
1950 it'll be an 8n. The 9n came first, then the 2n then the 8n. Go figure. I got a 8n in the back yard I'm working on, sure do love them.
Agreed
This is a 9n or 2n it has the big bolt pattern on wheels
That seems like a pretty solid old tractor. My dad does all his snow clearing with a 60s vintage Massey Ferguson 35, it’s got a 6’ blade mounted on the front and a 6’ blower on the back. I love old tractors
I've got a Massey 35, awesome tractor! check it out: ruclips.net/video/RqpzZSjQ23o/видео.html
I grew up on old tractors. I just purchased my first new tractor........ a Kubota. WOW..... is all I can say. It is so much safer and easier to run, not to mention the hydro is tits for plowing and bucket work.
I learned to drive on an old Massey Ferguson 35 in 1960. God I am old
135 Ferguson with 3 cyl Perkins, best small tractor ever made, i kid you not
Hell yeah a VGG video, perfect Valentines day gift just what I wanted

@@jayinmi3706 I had that sticker too on my '99 F150. One of the best trucks I have ever owned.
More tractor stuff! I love tractors. I dig the other stuff too, but I’m really looking forward to seeing more on this tractor!
Love the tractor! Have had many N series. Loved them all. 8n started production in 1948 (hence the 8 in the name) and the 8n had the small bolt pattern on the rear wheels. That's probably a mid 40s 2N. The 9n started in 1939, and the 2N started in 1942. The 8N ran from 1948 to 1952. So with a 2N or 9N rear and front wheels, and an 8N engine block, I'm guessing someone swapped engines? I see it has the Sherman over/under drive, which is pretty uncommon, so no matter which it originally was, I'd say a guy got a darn good tractor! My guess is a 2n swapped with a 8N engine. Keep up the great videos. By far the best channel on youtube right now!
im wearing my VGG new Tee shirt, I loaded my groceries in the SUV with a " yeah " get in there .
"YAHHHHHH!"
Elaine Jansky. I'm the same way. One of my boys had his blower motor go out and wanted to know how to change it. I told him that I would jump on my laptop confuser 600, bleep bloop the digical interwebs, and find a vidja on how to snag out the electrotronics and snip another one in for a fella.
For some reason he just shook his head. Go figure. A guy can't tell a joke around here.
I've caught myself doing it quite a bit myself. Just can't help it.

Great episode. Look for a relief valve on that external hydraulic pump. You can adjust to eliminate the engine stall at end of stroke or heavy lifts. Have a great day and keep the videos coming.
“A little barley....”.
that was a blue BL can so we all know you were just adding water... 😂😂😂
Or fuel lol
Water just helps clean up the spark plugs. Trust me, I read it on the internet somewhere
@@Timbobjr Back in the 60 s we used to dribble water down into the carb with the engine running to de-coke the chamber, there was also a kit you could but on Exchange and mart to heat up water by wrapping a tube around the exhaust and spray into the intake.
@@johnhopkins6658 I've seen kits nowadays that spray cold water into the intake to cool the engines. Like the opposite almost
A little water going into a hot engine flashes to steam, cools the internals, frees up the carbon deposits, and makes more power. They do it intentionally in high performance diesels for race applications. It's not the best for the fuel system and carb itself, and too much will corrode the cylinders, but since he mixed in some HEET in there, the methanol will scavenge up the water and it'll pass right on through.
I'm a simple man. I see Derek and bad decisions I click like

RSC-RedScreen Chaser when I saw it on the trailer my heart lept... grandpa had one that was the yard tractor at the shop. The number of times I slowly walked alongside that bucket dangling a Cummins 444 off it, headed for the next truck we were headed to bolt into some guy’s OTR... memories man... omg...
NOTHING looks like that Ford N-Series bolt-on loader!
I just bought a nice one last fall. 53-56 jubilee. Forget what year it is. Jubilee I think was only a couple years. Now I have 2 !
@@johnharr9707 First overhead valve Ford tractor, right? You're right, I think the 600 came out in '55
Mark Covey yes my dads he left me is a jubilee 600. The one I just got last fall is a 56 or 57 I think. The jubilee came out on Fords whatever anniversary.
Feller buys himself a tractor, makes this feller click like immediately.
I had a '53 Golden Jubilee...worked that think from dusk til dawn for years. The carb is fickle and needs adjustment throughout the day as she gets hot. Dad would always get on me about "monkey-ing with the carb", but you could make small adjustments and keep the power up all day.
Sweet ! I grew up running that Ford tractor. It was so nice with the PTO.
9:36 this adjustment adds horsepower and aesthetic appeal.😁👍🏻 it’s difficult to keep the women off with a sweet ride like that, I know.
Deffinately more follow up videos on your tractor realy did enjoy this one.
you've got to do a 302 swap in that thing!
Man's just made watching someone plow a driveway the highlight of our day
Love your vid of the Ford 9N, actually all your vids that I have seen are great! I used to have a Ford NAA tractor. It was the love child of the 8N and 9N. As soon as I used it for plowing the garden, all of a 30' run, I hit a submerged fence post and broke the ring and pinion. It took me most of the summer working weekends on it to get it fixed. As far as I know it is still running and was a fine tractor. Two things to mention. 1) be careful if you use the PTO with a device that has kinetic energy built up from running as when you go to stop you won't be able too because the kinetic energy from your device will back feed into the PTO and keep you moving. Get a free running clutch for your PTO. 2) My NAA it had a positive ground for the electrical. It looks as though yours have been changed. Also try running the choke closed a hair and you won't have the stalling problem. Have Fun...
Hell yeah, would love to see you fixing on this tractor for us. This puppy will lift engines, rear ends, transmissions out, move un needed stumps, pull cars out of the garage when they wont run etc etc. Heck, is the best hoist you ever had that is go anywhere, kinda like. Great 20 beer project from a Canadian perspective. Just saying!
But would it lift Oprah?
@@KameraShy That is a tall order LOL
And pull cars back out of the treeline
I’d pay good money for an auto unload feature as smooth as that one!
I like how angry she got after starting once you played with the loader hydraulics.
A bonus with the blade and bucket you don't need a factory parking break, just drop them down, turn into the uphill if you're on the steep never hurts either.
Now that you have a Ford Tractor, I suppose you ought to get yourself a 67 Galaxie with a 428 so you and the little lady can go to town in style. It's a pretty sleek rig.
Sounds like it's not charging and the battery can't keep up Derek @ViceGripGarage
Hardly any cheech and didn't even need Cosby in a can! Just loyal. 👌Mint!

Ive found his favorite quotes to be right on the$
He's also going to need a lot more hammers. My dad use to refer to them as "Ford Tuning Forks" or "Ford Adjustment Tools".
The old girl is just unhappy with that Government Motors alternator on it. ;)
haha
Generic Motors! Hell I don't care, long as it charges!
Yeah, he should have stuck with the 200.00 6 volt generator ;-)
That alternator at those engine speeds is the most reliable part on the damn thing.
He needs to add chains every 3rd link and fill those tires though if it's going to be used in the winter. If not filling the tires at least find a set of old weights.
@@FastBowtie388 I own a 1950 8n and it starts better than everything else I own
@@Band1.. if you have the knowhow and found one taken care of. After 70-80 years many are cobbled and just in horrible shape.
I keep my old case in good shape :-) Used it twice in the past week.
That isn’t a 1950, that would make it an 8n. Looking at the wheels, dash, and engine compartment yours is either a 9n (1939-1941) or 2n (1941-1947). 8n (1947/48-1952) have 4 speed transmissions, and different dash configuration.

I have a 8N that was my Grandfathers. He farmed with it here in the Willamette Valley from the mid 1950's on. I want to add the front bucket conversion so I was interested in seeing how that one was added on. Also on the tag end of the straps, I roll them and use one or two small bungees with the ball on one end to secure the roll to the straps
