      This is nothing new but I welcome it.
      My 2021 hilux has a yearly tax of 2300 euro because of emissions.
      If this system lowers that tax, great.

    The question is, how much fuel efficiency gap compared to conventional engine or THS II? it has not yet explained in the video. If it is only 10%, why bother coz the car price increase would be higher than 10% lol.

      Not only that imagine the extra cost of maintenance i doubt the belt will last normally with all of those extra load and when the special" alternator broke will also cost more than normal 😅

    Regarding the Hilux … How many amps does the new version of the alternator put out? Is it on the flywheel? Does it look like it’s adequately cooled?

    The 48-volt battery powers the electric motor, which is connected to the drive train. This electric motor assists the ICE during high-load applications such as during acceleration. It also functions as a generator to charge the battery and as a starter motor capable of starting the ICE.

    i never liked mild hybrid systems, this is no exception. it adds complexity, unlike the dual motor system in the prius which is very simple

      ISG still using 12v to 48v plus it is using the regular alternator instead motor generator so not like toyota true 48v to 48v DC-DC

      ​@@TinkuTimepaas the mild hybrid system assists the engine, it cant do anything on its own, unlike full hybrids that can drive in full EV mode.
      Even if you double the batery capacity I think it would still perform its role of assisting the engine, you would need to overhaul the entire system

      It still has a 12v starter motor, the generator/motor will start/stop the car when it’s warmed up

    This is not something new. Just yesterday I "testdrived" mild hybrid Volvo XC40 and I din't like it. With 1.6 turbo it has very apparent turbo lag. Of course I don't know how Toyota implemented this approach, but it is nothing comparing to Toyota's regular Hybrids.

      My 2002 Prius has a thermal storage evaporator core. Stays cold for about a minute, even with the engine stopped. If similar technology is used in mild hybrids, they can stop their engines while maintaining cold air.

    48V is garbage, why not use a diesel engine with i-FORCE MAX hybrid?

      Because that is expensive to implement (See tacoma prices and compare it to prices of vehicles not in 1st world countries). This will most likely be used for basic hilux and fortuner vehicles to comply with stricter emission standards. It's not much, and it's basically an improvement on the basic star-stop systems along with some regen and engine assist.

    If while overlanding in the middle of nowhere and hours and hours away from any help, and the hybrid system fails, can the vehicle still operate purely on the ICE? Or will the entire vehicle go into limp mode?

      Supposedly can as it is not a Full Hybrid. It is just a Mild Hybrid.
      The motor & battery are there just to assist the engine a little bit, the wheel is driven by the engine in all conditions, at all times.
      Different from a full hybrid which the wheels can be driven by engine or motor independently or both.
