  • The Jaegerstock or Hunting Stick is a double-pointed spear used to fight against 10 to 30 swordsmen. This video is a demonstration of Pascha's 34 lessons with this weapon. For a full translation of Pascha's lessons on the Jaegerstock, please visit wiktenauer.com/wiki/Johann_Geo...
The Jaegerstock uses its length and two points to defeat the shorter swords if its attackers. Pascha's lessons describe how to do this, emphasizing awareness, constant motion, unpredictability, and the advantages of the weapon. We've tested these techniques out against over 10 opponents, and they work incredibly well.

Betsy, this video is exemplary. It is everything a demonstration video should be. I'm looking forward to more of your work, and to the archive of MEMAG vids. Thanks!

Excercise 10 really illustrates my primary fear for weapons like this. At full extention, you have to be really careful not to jab it into your inner thigh, and severing the femoral artery, thereby ending the fight. Kinda like some Flails, which are designed so that you can hit yourself on the rebound. (I'm just going to say the Ryukku flail, or Nunchaku as they're known.) Yeah, you practice not to do that, but in practice, you're not swinging at people, who're swinging things back at you, with intent to wound, and kill you. Can't really control what the other guy is doing his weapon, wilst trying to control my own weapon. this is not a dealbreaker, I think I'll make one, and fool around with it. I love spears, and other pole-weapons, but I'm just going to avoid any moves that can seriously injure me (With a little help from the enemy.)

I know Exercises 11/12 from Marching Band. Probably from Battle Standards back when they were used as Signals. I was a Drum Major, we also had a baton that was basically a greatmace/staff scepter.

A good medevial weapon if you could master the technics, as you would with any other weapon. To go into battle welding one of these you would need to be exceptionally skilled.

+Cold Steel Fanboy Katana Lover Pascha's description of the Jaegerstock are as follows: About the stick itself, it is a strong stick, approximately four fingers thick and four half cubits long, or so long as a man
can reach, which you will need. Both ends have points with edges.

In fact, it is called in the very source at issue, "Jägerstock oder halbe Pique" - Hunter's stick or halfpike.

    I don't know ...
Fighting "10 to 30 swordsmen" at once by twirling a stick around yourself (and always exposing your back to at least one) seems to me rather to be something right out of the star wars prequels or a chinese kong fu movie, than something to be taken seriously, eventhough the routines look quite nice.

+MEMAG cool stuff, It is understandable that people have preconceived notions about it, while most of the techniques I have seen from historical sources against multiple opponents like this one are very reasonable, and not like movie super hero moves at all. keep up the great work!

+MEMAG id also think what with 10+ only like 4 or 5 at a time could be around you with out getting cramped together , so anything past that doesn't really matter...other then the fighters energy and such.

+jerome96114 Um, you do know that MEMAG has taken these actions and exercises right from the fightbooks that helped people actually using them in martial environments to you know... use them...

Historical sources exaggerate. You get used to it. (The fish gets bigger with every telling.) 10 I can believe. 30 can't crowd around you, within reach of 1 person with swords, simultaneously. 30 people with Awl Picks, I could believe, but then they'd all be out of your reach. 30 people is a small nomad tribe. (Gypseys, Pikers, Massai, Cossacks, or Apaches.) If you have to fight one of those, all with swords, you'll have to take them on 10 at a time. WTF does this have to do with Hunting?
