this is a great way of showing how music can help a person with dementia. Well done Emmerdale
Sian Davies i dont actually know. i think it is some point this week
7th April
McPartygirl18 your right Ashley is dead in this now and it has the story as my mums auntie she couldn't remember me but she could remember music and she died 😭
My Nanny has dementia
watching this storyline breaks my heart...Emmerdale has done an amazing job of portaying dementia. John Middleton is a FANTASTIC actor, I'm going to miss him when he leaves.
I know right. John Middleton was brilliant with this Storyline. You know what broke my heart. Here he is a Vicar, and he's in a Cafe and in the Background Al Green whose also a Minister classic song "Let's Stay Together" is playing.
This will always be one of my favourite clips of Emmerdale ever xx
When you see scenes like this whith Ashley it makes you feel like Ashley will get better but we all know he won't....😥🤕
What a fantastic Actor John is, absolutely fantastic. He gives you a great example and image of what dementia really is and how terrifying it is for the person who has it and for the family. And every second that you get the person who they were back appreciate it as sometimes you don't see it very often.
feel so sorry for Laurel in this cos it's like she's seeing the old Ashley again the man she fell in love with :(
Thanks for uploading, this scene was so touching.
an outstanding actor does not get the recognition he deserves as good as steve mcfadden without a doubt
This song (Denis by Blondie) made me emotional. Cried on top of my lungs. Ashley you and Laurel will be always missed.
Only watch the classics where Ashley’s married to Bernice ( I’m in 2001, so I think Laurel arrives soon). I know Ashley’s dead, but what happened to Laurel? Did she die, or just leave?
My Grandma does this in her care home 😊 I miss her so much 💔
I could watch this over and over 😢
Even with his condition, he still does some typically Ashley things! I love that :)
Honestly I cry every time I watch this
This is so cute x😊😘
Rip Ashley Thomas 1997 to 2017
The one person who disliked this is a heartless pillock
Loren-Anne Gee didn't you think maybe it was too upsetting for them?
Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't but this is one of the last good things to remember about Ashley
Did they even think this might bring good memories back to some people watching.
I like the dancing great work Ashley
Good storyline Ashley good character and actor
He is a Lovely man too. Met him at a Memory Walk. he is so nice and Friendly, not snooty like some of them can be.
Still watching this in 2020 so sad my favourite died
Amazing Scene but also so sad :(
This is beautiful and so true music really helps it does with my grandad
omg this was so adorable XD
This was their "last hurrah"
I’m nearly to tears I loved Ashley
Upload kens accident scenes please
I'll Miss Ashley
Did he actually recognise Laurel even just a tiny bit in that clip? I saw a spark of something
I like to think he didn't with his mind but did with his heart (i.e. beautiful woman I love, not sure who she is but she makes me feel wonderful and I feel I've known her forever!)
I think people with dementia, like Ashley, recognise some things. Like even if he’d forgotten Laurel was his wife, he knew she was someone who meant something to him.
@@catherinespark He may have even thought she was Bernice ( if he even remembered who Bernice was), but he knew she meant a lot to him.
Not even reached this part in Classic Emmerdale yet ( I’m just up to where Zak’s being treated for cancer in 2001) and I still found it moving.
Not watched any of this storyline in full, but I did watch the film ‘Help’ with Stephen Graham as a resident in a home during COVID. I think Ashley had the same as his character, Tony.
this scene gave me motion sickness :(
i miss Ashley already
it was her that drove him around the twist in the first place!
Debbie Harry?
One of the other residents ( the lady beside Ashley, in black and orange) looks just like my mother!
RIP AT
so emberresing to watch but at the end 😍😍😍😍
Why embarrassing? You and I must have really different indexes of embarrassment! :D I think it's really pure and joyful which is incredibly poignant against the backdrop of what's going on for them.

Am I the only one who's realised the actor who plays Ashley is 20 years older than the actress who plays Laurel?
Denis Denis
ashly is dead now
sean mcguinness He is set to leave the soap next week. Look at the ITV RUclips channel, they uploaded a trailer.
***** yes
This should be a moving scene, but instead it looks like everyone is on drugs. This time the actors are decent, but they need better direction.
You can still see glimpses of how the people were even though they have got Dementia. It is a moving scene because it portrays just that. Having Dementia doesn't mean the person is completely gone. It's great because Ashley is happy
jemisbabes I wanted to feel moved, but it was just stupid because the direction was lazy. With a little more effort it could have been a scene for the ages.
Well I was VERY moved by it and thought the direction was perfect - not overdressed and very plain and pure and letting the actors just follow their hearts (and probably many of the residents in a place like that ARE on some kind of drugs, let's be fair). To each their own :)
