    watching this storyline breaks my heart...Emmerdale has done an amazing job of portaying dementia. John Middleton is a FANTASTIC actor, I'm going to miss him when he leaves.

      I know right. John Middleton was brilliant with this Storyline. You know what broke my heart. Here he is a Vicar, and he's in a Cafe and in the Background Al Green whose also a Minister classic song "Let's Stay Together" is playing.

    When you see scenes like this whith Ashley it makes you feel like Ashley will get better but we all know he won't....😥🤕

    What a fantastic Actor John is, absolutely fantastic. He gives you a great example and image of what dementia really is and how terrifying it is for the person who has it and for the family. And every second that you get the person who they were back appreciate it as sometimes you don't see it very often.

      Only watch the classics where Ashley’s married to Bernice ( I’m in 2001, so I think Laurel arrives soon). I know Ashley’s dead, but what happened to Laurel? Did she die, or just leave?

      I like to think he didn't with his mind but did with his heart (i.e. beautiful woman I love, not sure who she is but she makes me feel wonderful and I feel I've known her forever!)

    • @alexanderjones9572
      @alexanderjones9572 2 года назад +1

      I think people with dementia, like Ashley, recognise some things. Like even if he’d forgotten Laurel was his wife, he knew she was someone who meant something to him.

    • @alexanderjones9572

      @@catherinespark He may have even thought she was Bernice ( if he even remembered who Bernice was), but he knew she meant a lot to him.

    Not even reached this part in Classic Emmerdale yet ( I’m just up to where Zak’s being treated for cancer in 2001) and I still found it moving.

    Not watched any of this storyline in full, but I did watch the film ‘Help’ with Stephen Graham as a resident in a home during COVID. I think Ashley had the same as his character, Tony.

    This should be a moving scene, but instead it looks like everyone is on drugs. This time the actors are decent, but they need better direction.

    • @jemisbabes
      @jemisbabes 7 лет назад +2

      You can still see glimpses of how the people were even though they have got Dementia. It is a moving scene because it portrays just that. Having Dementia doesn't mean the person is completely gone. It's great because Ashley is happy

    • @surgeland9084
      @surgeland9084 7 лет назад

      jemisbabes I wanted to feel moved, but it was just stupid because the direction was lazy. With a little more effort it could have been a scene for the ages.

    • @catherinespark
      @catherinespark 7 лет назад +2

      Well I was VERY moved by it and thought the direction was perfect - not overdressed and very plain and pure and letting the actors just follow their hearts (and probably many of the residents in a place like that ARE on some kind of drugs, let's be fair). To each their own :)
