Thanks i heard so many say the insert helps the sear so much vs just manual mode and this was helpful.

Are you just looking just. for ‘grill marks’ or is the square/triangle grate better than the standard bars?

Mark, the cast iron insert plate imparted a much better char flavor. When doing steaks and chops from now on, it will be on that cast iron, because it conducts heat better. Larger surface to do so also. Thanks for inquiring!!

Just ordered this sear insert and can't wait to try it out. Are you still doing the pellet blend with charcoal pellets mixed in with regular pellets?

Michael, I’m humbled to hear I helped you out. Yes. The only exception was when I did brisket recently to compare to the SmokeFire. But everything else is blended 50/50.
The sear plate will be a staple item now. Imparts a better char flavor with the cast iron.
When you ordered the sear plate, did you pick up the Weber crafted insert as well?

@@sambosplace yes, I saw that you need both things, so I ordered them both! I need to order some charcoal pellets. I can't find anyone in the area who carries them. I live in Virginia Beach my Lowe's carries Pit Boss and Bear Mountain, and Home Depot carries only Traeger. I won't run Pit Boss in my Searwood. I just don't trust them because they are so much bigger in diameter.

I've seen other comments that the right side is hotter for searing and they have that rack on the right side...might be worth a try 🤷‍♂️

Richard, I’m going off my biscuit test that showed the far left creating the most heat. It makes sense to me also, since the fan is blowing right to left from the hopper. Every grill could have variations. Cheers!
