  • The GTD/Getting Things Done methodology defines a project as anything that requires more than one action to complete. Some people believe that creates too many projects for your list. The author of GTD, David Allen, has some thoughts.
Have you heard about my new course "Getting Things Done with Evernote"? It teaches you how to combine the principles of GTD/Getting Things Done on the digital Evernote platform.

I love GTD because it works for me in as much as I apply it. This video helps me not expect to be perfectly organised, but is a reminder that GTD's natural planning helps capture and sort ideas and info on the go.

I think you make an excellent point. Being organized shouldn't add stress to your life...it should relieve it. Good luck.

I just started, and the first question you asked me is the one I asked myself the most: what to do with 2-action projects. Are these really projects? For example: “Find the movie schedule online” and “Go see the movie.” I would put “Find the movie schedule online” in my next action list. When it's done, and I know when I have to see the movie, I'll write it in my calendar. If I don't know what day I'm going to see the movie, but I want to see it as soon as possible, I'll keep it as my "next action" (Go see the movie). But on my note I will add the schedule/time I need to see it. Basically I just turn the first "next action" into another "next action" that keeps track of the previous action performed. If it gets too complicated (for example, after watching the movie schedule, I realize I need to do more than one other action before going to see the movie), then I'll make a project out of it.
You can also look at it this way, I suppose: if the next action leads to a next action in a linear fashion, you can simply transform each previous action into a new one, keeping track of the necessary information you got from each of the previous actions. If there are multiple branches of actions, or actions that can be performed in a non-linear order to arrive at the end result, then it is clearly a project.
