You wasted a lot if water by leaving the water running to rinse the dishes.

As much as I love my dishwasher and use it for almost everything, this was a little slanted. With a dual sink setup like that, the old-school way to wash dishes is fill both sinks with the same amount of water, one for washing, one for rinsing. So in your case that would be a total of 4 gallons. Maybe another .25 or .5 gal to rinse out the wash sink once finished. Yes that's still more than the DW but far less than your technique of leaving the tap running into the empty sink.

IF I use my dishwasher, I rinse the dishes to almost clean before they go into the dishwasher. On "normal" setting, the dishwasher takes 2 hours. Washing by hand, I fill sink about 1/2 full after adding plates, etc. (I definitely don't do dishes in 3 batches like this video.) I wash enough dishes to fill empty side of sink, then turn on the hot water to rinse them and turn it back off. I never leave the water running and don't know anyone who does. Also...washing a full sink of dishes takes me 15 minutes or less, including pans. I wonder if they'll do a test on power usage in the dishwashing showdown.

Interesting test. I do find that doing dishes by hand I use far less water than this though. Keep the water on as a trickle to rinse, and give them a pre rinse to wash off all the food

Sadly, I wash my dishes by hand. Using my “new” dishwasher, if I don’t “prewash,” they come out dirty. So, I hand wash. 😅

Video not very efficient at hand washing. Left water running, filled sink. To wash efficiently fill bowl, cup, yogurt or cottage cheese type container with hot soapy water (HSW) use a scrub brush to scrub dishes with the HSW, stack dishes in sink and let soap do its work, after all scrubbed, rinse with hot water-trickle, turn water off between rinses- the hot water will promote quick drying- you'll be done in no time!

No after dishwasher pictures of "clean dishes?"

Pretty good test! I have a dual sink full of dishes. And I don’t stop and go on the water. It’s full blast hot water cause some of stuff is caked on there. So I feel like it’s a ton of water that’s being wasted. Maybe I should invest in a washer

This video was really well done! Since everyone does hand washing differently I’d be interested to see the average water usage from 3 or 4 people doing the test. The machine will still use less than any of them
