The noise reduction in this video is doing much more harm than good... I would recommend looking into Hush as a plugin. (Also really happy to see a new ep. of the anti-cap chronicles!)
Audio reply guys lol. I could hear and understand this free lecture by one of the worlds leading Marxists, my one gripe is nothing to do with the content of what he said, rather... 😂
@@stripedlights And you want a cookie? Sorry I don't spend time listening to robotic voiceovers of people instead of actually listening to real people. The audio being trash is a valid critricism of a video that's explaining something. How can I understand the content if I can't understand the words in the content.
Thanks for all the hard work to put together these podcasts. If there's a way to fix the audio issues for the next episode, it'd be greatly appreciated by all viewers.
I am happy to listen to Prof Harvey once again after a long wait. It's more interesting for me to listen to him on caste and class. Infact caste is a central category to analyse and understand Indian society and its religion, Hinduism divides society into graded hierarchy. Because of its brahminical social system the entire development, institutions, culture and consciousness got caste-classised. Today we see top of its social pyramid constituted by upper castes who consist 15% of the population excluding the lower castes constituting the majority with 85%. Infact I was looking for some analysis of indian social system. Hope in the next podcast you would cover it.
One seemingly overlooked aspect of life is peoples' need for activity. To do something. I recognize that anti-capitalism rants fill this need. However, It may prove a dangerous activity for humankind, approaching the level of nuclear weapons. 1) Please accept that there is no purely Capitalist society. Even America has free and gov subsidized Health Care (Medicare/Medicaid, ACA), gov owned/public lands (More than some nation's total acreage), gov loans and businesses. Universal Free Education to collegiate level. Subsidized and even free Collegiate Ed ( Pell Grants, Work Force Ready Grants). 2) Please accept that , economies closest to purely Planned (Socialism, Communism) are notorious for famine, hereditary political power, authoritarianism, Secret Police and the like. 3) Please accept that the world's longest running, and dominant econ system, before Capitalism, is also a political system. Monarchy. The Divine Right Kings. 4) Please accept, however poorly implemented, separating Governmental Control, and Wealth's Power, inherently addresses all the evils I've mentioned. 5) Please accept that people, including our governments, sooo often devolve to Kingly and authoritarian hubris. Please accept that people, including our governments sooo often devolve to race, ethnicity, place and religious bigotry. Please accept that the only known safe guard is to keep one key of power in one vault, Government. And the other key of power, Wealth. In another. Human kind's development may never reach a place where we can entrust both to anyone, any government.
An interesting talk makes me reflect on tribal disputes with the NZ Crown, where I live, through a Marxist lens. With 100 tribes, some worth billions and others just millions, it's puzzling how these groups, with historical grievances, yet independent capital and rights, fit within a liberal democracy. What would a Marxist society look like here?
Glad You’re Back Prof Harvey!
I hope you feel better soon, Prof. Harvey! Thank you for your work.

Thank you, as always, you are a very very good educator. Thank you
Ibn Khaldun defined much of what is discussed here - in terms of class, clan and cast (cast often being enshrined by religion) - as 'Asabiyyah'
Thank you!
