Years ago I watched an Irish chef on telly cook 6 poached eggs in a large frying pan. Looked so much easier than the vinegar/vortex method: as long as its not snotty, I'm happy. I've even tried cooking one in a cup half filled with hot water in a microwave (think for 1:10...but dont quote me on that!!). I'm not bothered if they're a bit over cooked: l love hard boiled. On the strength of this vid, we'll be ha ing poached eggs in the morning! 🥚
I’m always doing mine in a frying pan, so much easier but I’ve always put vinegar in. Think I’m gonna cut the vinegar and do it your way, thanks for the video xx
We always use white vinegar not malt and yea I agree the swirl is a myth. Sometime we have to cook up to 6 poached eggs at once, if you swirled you'd end up with a giant 6 yolker :-) But your eggs look lovely :-)
Great tutorial. The egg without the vinegar or swirling definitely looked the best! I used to put the eggs through a sieve first, but I don't think I'll bother anymore. Yours always look great 👌Cheers.
Hi Dale and nocola i always do mine in frying pan no vinegar it works every time I've tried egg poacher pans and the plastic egg poacher in microwave they were rubbish .love your videos love fran xxxx
There's nothing weres than a snotey egg , I THINK YOU cook your poached eggs the way you like .Take care and all the best. I have seen Martin and shanon ,filming at you place .😊😊😊👍👍👍
Couldn't wait just found a small non stick frying pan I don't use and cooked a poached egg in it with no vinegar. Perfect with a bit of tomato sauce will be eating lots of poached eggs from now on. Better than winning the jackpot. 😛😁🤣 x
I've seen the eggs you serve in your place, thanks to Martin and Sharon and they look absolutely perfect. When we have done poached eggs here, we always stirred the water very fast and THEN dropped the egg in. I think I'll be doing them YOUR way from now on though because like I said, yours are perfect. Just how I would like them. Thanks so much for doing these videos and showing us how your food is cooked so glad you decided to start your own channel. I have subscribed and I wish you both the best of everything Dale and Nicola. Sadly, I don't live close to The Ragged Apron as I would be a regular customer. 🤩
Hi Dale and Nicola, i think how you normally do them is the best way. Whenever you see Martin's eggs they are always perfect, in fact all your meals look lovely. If i lived near you i would definitely visit your restaurant. I do mine in a bowl in the microwave
I've seen people use the swirling water method but they're using a pasta pot size pan of water. This looks a lot easier using a frying pan. Getting the raw egg in looks a lot more simple.
you may have won the Best Fry Up title, but you'll never win Best Poach Up!! haha! Your restaurant looks very welcoming (saw the walk through video) very nice renovation!!
I do this as it works every time. My sister told me years ago, its such a great tip & lovely of you to share. Im going to sub now as this is a helpful, friendly vlog.
I always strain my egg through a s/steel sink strainer over a ramikin first, if the albumen runs through too fast it's likely a bad egg. You need the freshest of eggs to make a successful poached egg. Any of them could have been a bad egg just cracking them straight in. Always spin the water first if doing them in a deep pan, the centrifugal force will keep the egg together. I place mine in a frying pan the same as you and I place them around the pan in clockwise order so I know exactly which one has been in the longest, I find 2 ½ minutes in steaming water to be perfect, not bubbling water just still & steaming. I bet it's all different in a busy cafe with so much other stuff going on though.
i normally poach my eggs in the microwave with one of those double plastic egg poacher gizmos but ill try the pan way coz your vlog has inspired me...thanks again
I poach my eggs in a scoville small frying pan from.asda i just get the water boiling then turn the temperature down a touch then crack the egg in and wait for the magic to happen hey presto after a few mins a lovely poached egg ❤
I don't use vinegar, just salted water that is simmering, also crack them one at a time in a plastic tea strainer for any excess white to go through, works everytime, 3 minutes to cook.
Thanks folks!! I'm trying this :) I've never ever been able to make a poached egg like this. It always breaks up like the third one. I'll try a frying pan in future :)
@@raggedapronLoving your videos, this is exactly how I used to poach eggs in my coffee shop in Lyme Regis ,many years ago. Yes I agree eggs , milk bread , delivered daily .Keep up the hard work, but remember to take a moment for you.

Thanks so much
I find the egg sticks to the pan 🍳 so I've invested in a good pan that the butler's use . So my advice to everyone is buy good pans 😊

Hi both this vlog came up on my recommended page I think I'm going to enjoy your channel so I have subscribed x
Welcome aboard!
I thin you'll find you should stir the water first, put the egg in, and leave it alone..
Thank u for your tip first time my poached egg turned out perfect
Great

Hadn’t thought of doing poached eggs in a frying pan, I’ll be giving it a go 👍😀
i normally poach my eggs in the microwave with one of those double plastic egg poacher gizmos but ill try the pan way coz your vlog has inspired me...thanks again
Me too, works fine
Frying pan is the only way. Plain water only. I just bring to boil, turn off and drop eggs in. Never fails.
Thanks x
I poach my eggs in a scoville small frying pan from.asda i just get the water boiling then turn the temperature down a touch then crack the egg in and wait for the magic to happen hey presto after a few mins a lovely poached egg ❤
That's exactly how i cook them. Perfect every time
Shame you didn’t show us the yolk !

Love a poached egg, will certainly be using your method from now on. Sound quality much better too
I always drain mine on kitchen paper I hate water on my toast or plate
Eggcellent video
Do you think egg temperature matters? I.e. they must be at room temperature.
The water temperature is the key, the egg temperature doesn't make a difference
@@raggedapron thanks
Try a bean tin with the bottom cut out perfect diameter size of an egg, perfect circle 😂
You stir the pot before you put the egg in
I don't stir ,I just break straight into frying pan ,and poach gently .Success everytime
stir first, make a whirlpool, drop egg into centre and cold water vinegar 30 minutes before cooking
💜💜💜
Need fresher eggs with an albumen that holds together better. I’d eat ‘em all though.
Our egg's are collected daily

Ment to stir water before you put egg in .and need proper fresh eggs
