The God wanted to TEST prophet Abraham - to test how much He loved the Creator. So the God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son for HIM which he tried to do but the knife failed and the Goat appeared and the God asked Abraham that he has Passed in the test and instead sacrifice this goat. The sacrifice of goat in HIS name is just a reminder to show Love for the creator. Thanks

Qurbani or sacrifice is not with the animal but with the obeying of Allah's commandments at any cost as Prophet Ibrahim (ah) did. Qur'an37: 103 --107 . that is maintaining Takwa or god conscious ness in obeying command ments of Allah through out the year. Slaughtering animal by prouncing the name of Allah,distribute meat (22:36) is after maintain ing, Takwa,obeying Allah's command ments whole heartedly, if one ignoring this ,then slaughtering animal is meaning less. And Allah appointed such religious ceremony to all Nations .. 22:34. Those who can't afford money,for cattle heads no obligation for slaughtering animal for them.. So burying cattle head needs money not piety or Takwa.
