A year and a half ago we couldn’t level a game that we were one down in. Like ever. We go one down we lose. We go two up, we let three in and so on. This is the first Villa team built to chase games if needed, the only Villa squad that I’ve ever seen come from behind. If we go on or two down I’m no longer down, I know we can pull it back. Cmon you villa boys!! UTV- best season ever! Be nice if some people remembered that.

Waited 42 years for us not to show up. They were better all over the pitch. Couldn’t beat their press and didn’t deserve to win.
Too many side and back passes.

Got it all to do now. But it’s not impossible. We have to score first.

One thing this season has taught us is that when we have a bad match and are well off it, we bounce back. Saw enough in that match to have confidence that we can get at this team in the second leg. Hit the nail on the head there Luke, control the midfield and move the ball faster.

I’m so sick of Olsen apologists. How can you watch that fourth goal and think that’s acceptable that it’s gone in. He might not of been directly responsible for all the goals but the fact of the matter is that he’s fundamentally not good enough to play for Villa. The defence absolutely shit themselves when he’s in net and he can’t play out from the back with the same confidence that emi does. He needs to go, I never want to see him in a Villa shirt again and I will never forget that he shipped four goals last night. HES NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

    • @alexjohnson9535
      @alexjohnson9535 Месяц назад +3

He has conceded 2.79 goals on average when playing for Villa. What sort of reassurance does he give you? I'm always bracing for the worst when I see him coming on. Perhaps it's about time to drop the 'Swedish international' myth because that means f*ck all and give a more hungry young keeper some chances. What's to lose after all? Olsen will be given the boot in a couple of months anyway...

    • @selctat115
      @selctat115 Месяц назад +2

@@alexjohnson9535 exactly mate, couldn’t of said it better myself. Yet you still have people saying “it’s not his fault, support him” no I fucking won’t support him he’s not good enough to play for us. What kind of championship mentality do we have? This is the closet we could get to a European trophy for another 40 years, and that prick shipped 4 goals against the Greece QPR. Who even wants to win a trophy? People saying at least we have champions league, what I’d say to that is have you watched how this squad has performed against European teams home and away this campaign. We’ve struggled in every game we’ve played, against much lesser opposition. If you think we even have the slightest chance of making it out the group then pass me what you’re smoking because it sounds fucking great.

    • @joebees21
      @joebees21 29 дней назад +3

I've been a defender of Olsen throughout. Fully backed him last night to get the job done.
The truth is though is that he's not good enough to play for Villa.
On average, he concedes 2.81 goals per 90 minutes.
Obviously your second keeper is always going to be worse but the gulf between him and Martinez is huge - to the point where I don't think it's viable that we rely on him anymore.
It wasn't all his fault last night.
Penalty and the first goal are tough saves to make but the other two he should've had.
Our midfield and defence was also all over the place and I can't name a single player that had a great game but unfortunately Olsen has shown time and time again that he couldn't save a word document.

I must have been the only Villa fan that called this loss. I thought we were over confident in the build up to this game and didn't give enough respect to Olympiakos, these moments always come back to bite us on the ass. We seemed pedestrian all through the game, our passing at times was terrible, the ref made some shocking decisions but ultimately Olympiakos did a number on us and we massively underestimated them. It's going to be tough when we play them at their place. UTV!!!!

If you know European football history, then you know Olympiacos has always had the money to buy quality international players- young and experienced ones. That the Greek league is a lower caliber in general is irrelevant. Would've been the same situation had Fenerbahce gotten through.

No excuse though they done us over.
Tbh though I couldn't believe the comments on the score prediction short. You can't assume you'll turn up to a European Semi final and hammer the other team.
I had commented that if we went behind We'd be in trouble. We've been told all week about their energy and pressing.
Dougie too casual for such a good press.

Great analysis Luke. I came here to comment but you said everything I would have!. Bitterly disappointed. Fair play to olympiakos, they came with a plan & executed it perfectly. Too much dilly dallying at the back, I know it’s how we have played for a while now but I’m uneasy with it, they forced us into errors and and we couldn’t cope. Everyone was found lacking, similar to the Chelsea game. I think If Arsenal want to meet us halfway for Dougie at 85 mil, we should bite their hands off and cash in. Perspective says let’s not forget how far we’ve come, brilliant season and the boys have done us proud, it just could’ve been so much more last night. UTV.

We had some awful decisions go against us, the disalliwed goal, Bailey penalty are the 2 big ones. Them getting the corner when Lenglet was just seeing the ball out for a goal kick and scoring from it, you can go on and on. Things need to change, we lose so much when McGinn has to go back a bit, midfield becomes non existent. This is where the game was lost for me. Im not blaming Olsen, he was unlucky with the deflection but if you get your hand to something youve got to do better especially in the middle of the goal and why did he have a clenched fist???
Extremely disappointing, at this point I cant see us getting through because defensively we wont keep them out.
Monchi needs to work more magic than Harry Potter if we're getting a team together for champions league football next season. If it wasnt for the money id be saying lets step up to the Europa first, especially after last nights game. Hopefully the ones with injuries will massively improve our squad depth and Unai will have many more options.

Spot on with everything Julie except for the Europa League bit imo. I think that's the worst Competition for us to be in. If we have CL the money is there to sign players that will want to come. For a good run in the EL you'd be looking at the same level of player except you don't have the cash and they may not be interested. An early exit in the CL would be expected so not devastating. Allows you to concentrate on getting back in for rest of season and has already paid around the same as winning the EL would. The EL meanwhile offers Sunday+Thursday football with Competition that you can't rest players for like in the ECL.
Yeah, so for me personally I'd rather be back in the ECL than the EL. The CL is a must now though. Chelsea have done their bit. 2 wins and the glory of qualifying is ours. Its not a trophie but every PL club wants it.

Not sure why Lenglet started tbh but what do I know, especially if he is not staying beyond the summer. Dougie just looks way off it since he came back, is there a move going on in the background? Duran as always causes mayhem maybe needed more time on the pitch.
If Martinez is still injured for the Brighton game I think I'd be tempted to bring Gaucci and see what he can offer. It just doesn't work with Olsen in goal, we panic a bit passing it out the back.
We got nothing to lose now next leg so it's gotta be alot more attacking and at a much quicker pace. Early goal we can get a result out there no problem. Keep the faith!

Get Martinez Torres Tielemans back and BRING OUR LEVEL, we KNOW we have it in us. Not scared of Olympiacos now, just scared of the ref, I don’t think they were as good as Lille, I just think it was a massive off day. Set it right on Brighton and get top 4 nailed on, then do what we can. We’re STILL in this, we already saw them throw away a two goal lead and we can again. UTV

Unfortunately, despite the cries of "the world's No.2", the team don't play like he is and there's a nervousness about the team. Emi is such a big character in the team and he's part of what makes the team tick. Dougie and McGinn were absolutely crap in midfield and that's not what you need. Goals scored against the team that have become renowned this season for holding a line that all of a sudden isn't being held, Lenglet is a poor man's Pau Torres and it showed again tonight that he just isn't anywhere near as good and progressive as Torres. Konsa looks completely lost and unable to progress a ball at all and despite the fact that Emery likes control of a game, I'm not sure what the point is of continually playing the ball around at the back when we're trailing 2-0, it doesn't seem to be the time to be doing that. I can't believe that Digne didn't push on into the acres of space there was constantly in front of him in the 1st half, it defies logic, for me. Emi almost certainly would've saved the 4th goal and would've almost certainly snuffed out the 2nd goal after Kaabi broke through...... it was dire. To throw the game away after getting back to all square. I'm not sure we can stick the place out so badly again and hopefully we'll see a response v Brighton and seal the points we need to pretty much seal 4th place to give us a springboard to be able to throw the kitchen sink at next Thursday and give it a real go.

  • @Lioness_UTV

Our intensity, focus and keeping to Emery's game plan was a pace off and they clearly grew in confidence as the first half mins ticked by. They were impressive and we were passive. In some ways they played similarly to us but were far more willing to play direct when moments presented themselves, while we seemed to second guess ourselves ad slip into slow and safe under the guise of possession and in control. I lost count how many times Cash backtracked or passed sideways vs playing the all forwards.
Players like McGinn and Luiz off their game, giving a Pen and missing a pen. I agree Luke, backwards and sideways gets you nowhere as we aren't challenging the opposition.
Having said that, I believe Emery will be determined to meet this challenge in Athens. Its all to play for and we have it in us to bring the game to them...

Its like everyone has forgot how many players we have out and who them players are? Mings massive (look at his record when he plays) ,Kamara the same). Buendia, Tielmans for rest of seaon, Ramsey for 3/4 of season, Morano never been fully fit ,out for over half the season if you tot it up, Martinez has been struggling with hamstring for a while, suspensions havnt helped either. this means also we haven't got the rotation to help players stay fit and as fresh as they could be. This is on top of the standard 1 or 2 games out with strains etc for other players. Im amazed at what weve done this year considering.

Season's caught up to their legs, I think if we get a solid result against Brighton, with Spurs dropping points and basically confirming Top 4, the lads will be like right, job 1 done, lets get the fans a trophy now, maybe we don't make it over the final hurdle, maybe we do miss out, but if they fight for it, we cannot as fans complain about this season, a european semi final, and top 4, with a paper thin squad that, when rotated, is still basically the exact same as we have no depth available to us right now, I'm proud of the lads, in my lifetime at 24 i've never seen Villa in the top 4, and i've now seen us in a European Semi Final, bring on next season with injuries back, and new transfers in because of the allure of Champions League.

Not really going to say much about Olsen but the sooner Emi is back the better. To many mistakes by the whole team. But here is the thing. Look where this team was 18 months ago. Chelsea done us a major favour beating Spurs if we beat Brighton and Spurs loose to Liverpool we have 4th guaranteed. Champions league next season I would have taken that all day at the beginning of the season. If that happens maybe the team will be a bit more relaxed and play to the abilities we all know they have. If Yuri is fit for the weekend I would really consider having him and McGinn as the double pivot and put Dougie on the bench. Controversial maybe, but it could be the catalyst to wake him up as he is so much better than he has been playing as of recent. I still think we can go to Greece and get a result. UTV

Now I'm guessing that in your 33 years you have seen your team do well in Europe and you've seen other teams come to your place and bottle it.
However, we invented this game and to us this is just half time, yes you may be 2 goals up, yes now our Villa Pride will HAVE to play to their best in your arena!
However we're The Villa, so forget your statistics, with our history, as another old man once said "There's a long way to get yet!" "Do you want to bet against us?"

It was crazy to see so many people underestimating Olympiacos. European experience is crucial in these kind of games...

Luiz was shocking and the ref was abysmal. We played like we were the away side. They outsmarted us

Deflections, pens, bit of a dodgy ref, there's no way that team beat us next time. I don't understand why everyones down, if they play like that in the 2nd leg we'll beat them 3 or 4-1 easy. Trust in emery. They had a lucky night nothing more

They did a job on us by pressing us. We gave the ball away far too much. Ref missed so much. It's still within our reach but it's going to be tough. If we press them and score first we have a chance. UTV 🦁

I listened to this on WM Radio.
I could tell by the commentators tempo/commentary, that I think we were being annihilated.
The first goal came and my heart sank. Then the second goal came and I just turned the radio off.
I just hope we get a better break, a few goals in the next game.
Luke I love this channel, long may UTV Podcasts continue 👍

D.Luiz drove me nuts during the game and not because of the handball and the missed penalty. It was his overall reading of the game. Martinez when playing, usually dictates the pace of our game, when he's not there DL is supposed to dictate it. At 2-2 we had em on the ropes, then DL decides to hit a 40yrd backpass? Slowed the pace down to nothing allowing them to organise and high press us again which they were doing well. Next the corner, then the handball. DL frustrates the shit outta me at the best of times but last night's game took it to new levels 🤦🏾‍♂️

No Martinez no confidence. Could have got back into it at 2-2 needed that penalty gonna be a big ask now but definitely need the first goal UTV!!
Ps It really was a long & lonely 87 mile drive home.

I still believe that with Pau, Martinez and Tielemans back we will be more solid and we have nothing to lose in Greece so need to go for it. Some bad decisions against us last night but our midfield and Defence was poor.
