Being so close to Russia, Finland has endured a lot through the centuries. Slavery, famine, wars, torture, the most evil things imaginable. Yet we somehow survived.

The Great Wrath was perhaps the most horrible time with all the torturing and enslavement.
"Mothers and fathers were tortured in front of their children and vice versa. They were painfully hanged by the wrists with their hands behind their backs, frozen in the snow, burned by fire or in an oven. When Esko Juhonpoika Eskonsipo returned to Oulunsalo in 1716, only a few acquaintances were alive and "they too had been tortured until they were weak." There were bodies of little children all around. The tortured people he found languished in excruciating pain for days after the torture and eventually died from their injuries. According to Professor Kustaa H. J. Vilkuna, there are many descriptions of torture and they are very authentic. Women were raped or taken as long-term sex slaves.
The main reason for the torture was to get information about Finns' money stashes. After revealing the stash, the victim was usually killed. Peter the Great had also twice ordered the destruction into wasteland from the width of the corners of Northern Ostrobothnia, which would not allow the living conditions of the Swedish army, i.e. genocide. In Porvoo, the Russians put the corpses of the townspeople on display as early as 1708, some of which had their genitals burned. Typically, all the houses except the soldiers' quarters were burned. It could have been that everyone in a village was killed.
Peasants were slaughtered at Raahe market. Matti Puusti laid wounded for three days before he died. Marjatta wife was whipped, in 1716 she was tortured even worse. She was stripped, whipped with a lead-tipped knotted whip, stood naked in the snow, burned the back, blinded with burning tallow. The boy was taken as a prisoner to Russia."
