thanks , need to replace mine , a rat or mouse got into the fresh air vent and deposited rocks , cholla seed pods , palo verde seed pods etc in there and chewed a hole in it or it broke with all that crap in there and it was blowing dust, and making a terrible noise . air blower is cleaned and i will buy a new filter and replace it later .
You need to do a little research if you believe it doesn't matter if you put it in correctly or not. People get confused with Toyota (and Subaru and Range Rover) because the OEM filters have arrows which indicate"this side UP" but most aftermarket filters have arrows that indicate "AIR FLIW direction" which as you correctly stated is down, not up. People who don't understand the difference should watch one of these videos... BOTH KINDS OF ARROWS ON ONE FILTER... UP & AIR FLOW... ruclips.net/video/h_kLsmfaLC8/видео.html Also see... ruclips.net/video/W7e9nLpNiPY/видео.html
Filter direct does matter, Also you installed the filter wrong The sides will have gaps.. That is why its hanging up when trying to remove it. Rotate 90 degrees and reinstall arrow flow pointing down..
The arrows point downward, if you bought a filter from Toyota or removed one, you would see there are 2 arrows, one for direction of installation and the other for flow..

Thanks My filter has an arrow with the words air flow.
The arrows do point upward. Just sayin.

Just put a piece of apple pie where the filter goes and boom, good smelling car.
