It’s weird how many of these I can sing from memory. I used to be a semi-professional singer, my teacher was a big fan, and our accompanist even more so!
Brilliant guys. Here in the States, we would say New Math, singular vs plural. As did Mr. Lehrer, a teacher of that very subject. But a brilliant performance, and that gent who performed The Elements and New Math (lol) was every bit as brilliant as the original genius who devised them. BRAVO!
They said "death had to take him in his sleep, for if Roosevelt had been awake, there would have been a fight." about Teddy Roosevelt. Therefore, I maintain that the reason death has not come to Lehrer yet is that he would fight in his sleep!

@@qirkzmarrickville640 You're welcome! It is rather a pity something like this is not performed much today, nevermind that all these works are now Public Domain.. But anyways, I was rather delighted to find this very nice performance of some of Lehrer's 'best'! Perhaps my favourites here being Poisoning Pigeons, Elements, National Brotherhood Week, and perhaps also When We're Old and Grey, simply for the visual performance as charming as it is painful. Masochism Tango is good too. But all are performed nicely here!
This could apply to many generations. 'Unfortunately, the classical music of Charles Valentin Alkan is now too upper class for the Boomers.' Tom Lehrer just became unpopular because he CHOSE to stop performing, and since it's been 55 years since his last performance, I don't think it's about the education level or about how smart they are, it's just a matter of things becoming obscure after time. Do you think people are stupid if a home doesn't have a rotary phone? Of course not. This applies to music as well. Tom Lehrer is an amazing musician, and I do want more people to know him, but I feel like it's a bit unfair to boo young people just because they don't know him. Also, there's plenty of young people listening to him, so your whole statement is kind of invalid.

Does any fan have the talent to record his no longer available songs? It would be great fun, and you'd have a huge audience ready and waiting!

Thanks very much! TL is an international treasure.

@@mattvonwenden5405 I agree! I'd love to put on a performance of this. Maybe I can? I'll see what strings I can pull!
I didn't know about this local performance about TL. Thank you for sharing.
Unfortunately his humor is now too high falutin' for today's "highly-educated" smartphone geniuses.
Is it? I see much more admiration on the internet than hate.

I think I speak for my fellow "highly-educated" smartphone geinueses when i say I find Tom Lehrer a lot more tolerable than I find you.
Absolutely not
