This is the second time my mom used this sign without remembering what the sign actually meant! Lol
She said she was trying to do a square. 😂
🤟🏼 MOM! 😘

Funny. 😂 Bless her for trying. 🙂🤟🏽
Your mom is great. Not only did she learn she isn't afraid to use it and to fill the gaps with madr up signs. Mistakes happen and that's okay
The problem with made-up "home signs" is that you easily use them mistakenly even after you've learnt the actual sign, as you've so used to using the made-up one...
About 25-30 years ago Publix grocery store aired a commercial for their subs. (Sidebar: If you have never had one, they are great) The deli guy they interviewed for the commercial was talking about the food pyramid. A hearing guy who attempted to illustrate the word pyramid…yup. I called a friend of mine who was a store manager and explained why that wasn’t a good look. He spoke to corporate and I never saw that commercial again.
I think you handled all this so well. Respect!
I do not know any ASL in the slightest but I saw that sign and I immediately knew... 😅
My sister accidentally signed "condom" instead of "mushroom" when we were learning ASL
"I was out hiking the other day and I found some _huge_ condoms! So I picked them up, and took them home, and I've got a recipe..." :O
"rabbit" and "devil" are signed with the same hand shape in Finnish Sign Language
(the "V" shape but the fingers are bowed)
on your forehead, but "devil" with back of your palm against the head VS "rabbit" with front of the palm & other fingers against the head.
Hilarity ensues in FinSL class when people forget which way it's "rabbit"... 😂
No - all done 😂😂😂😂
I totally get this ..I once tried to sign " be nice to everyone you meet" and it kinda looked like " be nice to everyone you. . . f " 🤣 very sorry 😔
I mean, that's also good advice.
I literally did the exact same thing... at her church x.x She was very nice about it but... I've barely tried anything since 😅 Not to mention the facial expressions with the hand movements
I KNOW how you signed it, and I can't stop laughing about it 😂😂😂
Thank you for signing when speaking
Me dying when I saw the video of him signing 😂
Laughed out loud when I saw this 😂
I love that I start to recognize some signs as I watch this on repeat. I want to learn sign language at some point.
I know I accidentally learned that sign, but I'm trying to remember if it was my ASL professor telling us "THIS ISN'T PIZZA" when we were learning the sign for pizza, or if it was when one of my friends at an ASL event was asking us what the worst incident was with us using a sign incorrectly since most of us were students and my mom shared the story about how she thought it was "boat" when she told the story about Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc in front of a class... with that sign...
One of my education professors told a story about one of his classes several years ago. The kids were young and deaf. One if the girls made that sign in front of her face to one of her male classmates. The teacher told her not to use that sign, and told her what it meant. The girl was horrified, and apologized profusely to the boy. LOL.
I learned some very basic signs when teaching swimming to a group of deaf kids at summer camp. I believe I was too aggressive with the sign for work and ended up signing the F word a few times before being corrected 😂😮
Retired ASL interpreter here- I was taught you sign “bowling” PALM DOWN, because done palm up, it means something impolite as in “ shoving something up your ______. “ I think there might be a phone app for finding signs…. Such a thing might help you all. Making up signs can be “dangerous”🤪
My coworkers and I use some basic signs with our nonverbal students. The one I *always* have to break down is “work.”
Oh my goodness 😂😂😂
LOL. Even I knew that sign.
Classic!! Oof!! 😂
When my daughter was little and went to preschool, they would sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and do hand gestures. One parent, who was deaf, was horrified to see the star hand signal, and had to explain why it was inappropriate. They immediately changed it.
I don’t even know ASL and I immediately guessed what that meant lol.
That sign is "v@gina" also in FinSL (Finnish Sign Language) and it's hilarious to see politicians form the sign with their hands while they're talking. They keep bouncing their thumbs and index fingers against each other in that shape while thinking 😂
I also just realized that "last" is the same sign in ASL and FinSL.
("first" is most likely too, as it's just done with different fingers; index vs pinky)
My ex husband used that sign too when we were sitting with my Mom who was Deaf and her hearing impaired best friend when he was trying to tell My Mom that he would give her a BIG piece
I don’t know much ASL and I don’t try to make signs to someone if I am not SURE what it means for that reason. LOL
Honestly thought he was throwing gang signs😂😂😂
Funny 😂
It can be pie if you are lucky!
😂😭
Okay but did you actually tell her what it meant or did you just tell her not to do that again?? Because you're not dealing with a child, you're dealing with an adult 😂
Wait, how inappropriate? Are you saying it’s the clinical term or one of the many slang ones?
It's both. Context and non-manual markers (facial expressions, mouthing, and body language/movement) determine which one you are expressing.
@@joufuurin5655 thank you for explaining…. So the answer to the trivia questions (blank) Willow and The (blank) monologues would look similar but not identical 😉
@@kevinmazzarini2200 Actually, no. 😅😅 In both of those cases, you would actually fingerspell using the manual alphabet. A pussy willow is a name of a plant and The Vagina Monologues is a title. Pussy willow will always be fingerspelled, while the latter would be fingerspelled at least the first time it's brought up though might be shorthanded to using the sign upon subsequent mentions to avoid excessive fingerspelling.
@@joufuurin5655 I see. That’s interesting. I appreciate you explaining this to me.
What did the sign mean?
It literally said it in the subtitles on the screen. It means vagina.
😂
Looks like he didn’t actually say it to husband though.
👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯
Wait what does it mean..?? 😂😂I have no idea. I mean I have a couple ideas but what does it mean?? 😂
It's in the subtitles at 1:13.

That sign isn't only ASL. It may have existed long before ASL was created. Who might have taught your mother that sign? Seems like a mean spirited prank to me.
So what was it? I’m more confused at the end than I was at the beginning.
second word, bottom line on screen at 1:13
So what does that sign mean?
It literally said what it was in the subtitles on the screen. It’s vagina.
This woman gives off such mature mom vibes! So hot🥵
Wtf Michael
I’m confused, why is saying vajajae inappropriate? Context (and immaturity) would be the thing that determines if it’s being said inappropriately
I think the point was that if her brother learnt the sign wrong (That the vagigi.. sign means "frame" -or "pizza") he would use it wrong in conversation with other deaf ppl than his BiL, and that would cause serious confusion and made him all ashamed afterwards...
I made the same sign and thought I was signing the word kite. 🪁 lol. The deaf man almost freaked out. And had someone else tell me not to do it and why. I was so embarrassed 🙈
😂
