I wouldn't describe my self as a good or a bad pilot. I always get scores from 8000-11000 every game, I always watch you videos always trying to learn how to be a better pilot. Every game i play now i only ever have to spawn once because i know how to take on Anti air, i know how to always win a dogfight. And all of this is thanks to you Matti and I Appreciate the videos you post. I wouldn't be a good pilot without them! :)
wonder why some people have disliked this vid.. thanks for the tips.. two things I'm finding difficult. 1. finding a way to get away from someone on my tail. 2. hitting planes with the bomber killer rockets.. sometimes I'm right behind someone and miss with the rockets...
Losing a good pilot from your tail is really hard. I suggest to go into a vertical or at least angled loop (no horizontal circles please and always enter the loop by going towards the ground, not up in the sky, works better in my experience) and try to maintain the right speed by speeding up on the way up and slowing down on the way down (slightly). If you do it right the enemy should be at least loosing sight of you for a few moments every loop and those moments are your ticket to get him off your tail. Just slightly change your direction when on the top of a loop or do a quick roll and try to fly an "eight-figure" in the sky. Most pilots will either not see you at all and lose you or give up on the dogfight. In my experience (since the absence of air radar) your biggest help is the sound of a plane passing you. If you are in a dogfight and you both do loops and manouvers where you pass each other every now and then, try to change up your loop everytime you hear the sound of the enemy plane. This will most likely gain you the advantage as the enemy won't be able to tell what you just did (against experienced pilots it's a whole other story). For the rockets there's probably just one solution and that's practice. One tip is to not use the yaw when aiming with the rockets as your reticle won't represent the true flight path of the rockets anymore when you do so (saw it in another tutorial).
Marius Ranzinger Wow thanks for the info.. all makes sense. Will definitely practice the techniques you pointed out. I'll see about not using the yaw with the rockets and see if it helps. Again thanks for the advice great to see people taking the time to share and teach..
Brian1996 Flying low would seem like pilots would know. If there's AA and a hill up ahead you can fly low behind mountain. For Monte Grappa you can fly behind the one mountain.
I am a ps4 player and actually your videos helped me a lot specially how to get away from the enemy pilot thats in your tail also the darts against the behemoth and im still learning from the best. so I'm grateful for that thank you Matti
I have a question for the PS4 players: Do you often encounter other good pilots? Because I rarely do; they either don't want to dogfight and run for their AA or try to circle jerk (which is hilarious, as it doesn't work for them at all). I ran into a handful good pilots since the beginning who were able to dogfight and did different manouvers besides tight turns.
Hey Matt! Gotta ask just one question for some tips because I haven't seen a video of it yet, but could you do a quick tutorial and tips video on how to properly lead and drop bombs? I don't know why, but whenever I try to bomb or use trench darts, I nearly always release too late and completely miss the target I'm aiming for. Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated.
Thanks for all the tips and vids Matti, learned a lot and have been able to get trench fighter kill streaks into the 40s now after watching. I think the AA nerf makes no sense at all. Good pilots will be almost impossible to kill from the ground. It should be more fun if you're decent at flying, but I think it's not good for the overall balance of the game, a very surprising move which I don't expect to be popular. Your thoughts Matti?
No, I've recently heard that console players plug their controllers into PC and compete and even beat the best PC pilots. I can't confirm it but it seems legit
4ingP Simple. Learn to be a good sniper at long ranges and moving targets and snipe at planes so they can't repair and let AA do most of damage. They can counter by going behind mountains tho.
Gavin Searle Go to the server browser and choose the search options. Go to the "Open Slots" option and only the option that has 64 in it. Then just look for the map of your choice and have at it.
Marius Ranzinger the plane will make a sharp dip as soon as the bombs hit anything. It will make a sharp dip like two times quickly then be fine until I drop bombs again
I am holding off on my opinions on the upcoming AA nerf until I actually use it. I know a lot of the time, as a pilot, I can avoid most AA gunners in the first place so I am not really sure why it needed the nerf. on the other hand as a fairly usual AA user, sometimes you can decimate even a decent pilot if you use your brain for half a second and think about when and how you are going to launch an attack against them.
I'd say nerf the range of the AA artillery truck and lower the screenshake effects and wing damage of AA. Damage can stay the same at first so we can see the difference first
MattiAceGaming Hopefully they do nerf AA truck. On console you can't type in a chat box to take it out. The closest you can get is a friend using assault or place a order on a objective that it is closest to mostly saying this for conquest.
They should definitely work on the screenshake especially from friendly AA and the Dreadnought. There was a few times were I flew near the ground and friendly Dreadnought fire flew past me, making me crash. AA doesn't bother me most of the times, besides the ridiculous range on the AA truck as you said.
Personally i feel that the upcoming AA nerf is rather extreme , instead of a damage nerf all it should have gotten was a slight range nerf .Of course this all wouldn't be a problem if casual field didn't have these tiny fucking maps .
Ash Yeah i think the same, if you are a good pilot you can perfectly in the almost all situations in a 1vs1 with the AA kill him. Sorry if my english is wrong, its not my first language
if anything, I would lower indirect damage and doubled direct damage. QF1 AA should reward players for accuracy. I would also slightly Increase range so we can shoot bombers flying way above.
Eugene it would have been cool if they had two types of AA. One long range direct damage and one close range indirect. balanced with different rofs and projectile velocities
URANIUM REAPER Im not saying this with the objective to think "im the best pilot" because im not good but it requires a minimun amount of skill, now will be very easy, with no challenge (50% less challenge), i pesonaly think with the first nerf (the AA not shake your plane out of control) its enought. Again, sorry for my english if is bad
I think they should buff the fighter plane darts against bombers I know they used to be op but the damage went from 100% one shot kill to 5 damage????? Wtf Its like 50 darts released at once I mean if only half hit you should at least do 1 damage per dart ... Now it's ridiculous I mean if my darts kill infantry with one dart they have a lot of damage and if 50darts barely do 5 damage to a number or attack plane why the fuck can you do 5-10 damage with one bullet while playing infantry it's so poorly balance at the moment makes no sense! Awh the days when you could rape bombers are gone
I really like your way of darting the airships sideways for kills. I have never thought of this before.
Thanks.
I'd love to see more vids like this. You're probably the best pilot on YT and your experience is really valuable for people trying to learn.
Hahaha 0:10 Thats how you get fokking rekt by Dice.
Dice was like "oh no you too GOOD!"

Thearesia Van Astrea .....and your a good pilot obviously

+Gb J no problem mate :)
You have to love Matti, it is the law
Hey matti, the AA tips where you fly low really helped me alot
Brian1996 Flying low would seem like pilots would know. If there's AA and a hill up ahead you can fly low behind mountain. For Monte Grappa you can fly behind the one mountain.
Arctic_Foxz ok ma dude
I am a ps4 player and actually your videos helped me a lot

the darts against the behemoth and im still learning from the best.
so I'm grateful for that thank you Matti
sَamّ_nُo What part are you having trouble with? Hitting the Gunners below?
If you can't hit them that good then focus the top two guns in front and back.
doesn't the PC version incorporate both yaw and pitch within the mouse or have you changed the default bindings?
I have a question for the PS4 players: Do you often encounter other good pilots? you move like the campaign flight setup on consoles. i always wondered how your button-hooks were so fluid and tight.
Thank you so much for this vid

volksdude1970 trial and error.....if you missed because your to late, fire earleir. it's visual touch feel game play
All the good pilots know where the AA placements are and immediately destroys the only thing ground troops have against planes.
TheAgentAssassin Yes but ground troops can still fire. Especially guns with bipod .
TheAgentAssassin
But then you gotta watch out for people spawning in mobile AA artillery trucks. And those suckers are a pain in the butt.
Thanks for all the tips and vids Matti, learned a lot and have been able to get trench fighter kill streaks into the 40s now after watching.

I can't control the fighter plane like you do Mattie is this because I'm on ps4 and you on pc ?
No, I've recently heard that console players plug their controllers into PC and compete and even beat the best PC pilots. I can't confirm it but it seems legit
MattiAceGaming I'm the 420 viewer dankness keep up the good work
I use a PS4 controller on PC and do pretty well. Also I use a weird set-up with the sticks. I don't use default setting, I use Legacy Southpaw.
I use the veteran air vehicle settings and I do pretty good with the fighter plane. yesterday I had a 42 kd two games in a row
MattiAceGaming thanks Mattie I must be useless haha
Oh wow matti made a video on how to fly planes.... Nobody has ever seen that before...
Have you heard that aa guns do 50% less damage to fighters in the CTE? That's likely to be added in the main game with the DLC update!
4ingP Simple. Learn to be a good sniper at long ranges and moving targets and snipe at planes so they can't repair and let AA do most of damage. They can counter by going behind mountains tho.
Those triplanes are hella hard to hit. They're so small and nimble
When you crashed in the begining that is what happens to me all the time on console.
So how does one get to a empty server? I have looked very ware and have not found anyway
Gavin Searle
Go to the server browser and choose the search options. Go to the "Open Slots" option and only the option that has 64 in it. Then just look for the map of your choice and have at it.
volksdude1970 thanks man!
Gavin Searle
Glad to help out!
have you tried at all to see what it's like to play with controller?
No and I probably never will, not my thing
Does anyone else glitch out when they drop the needle bombs? (PS4)
What do you mean by glitch out? I have a problem after reloading every now and then but nothing else so far.
Marius Ranzinger the plane will make a sharp dip as soon as the bombs hit anything. It will make a sharp dip like two times quickly then be fine until I drop bombs again
+nathan0717 this happens usually if you lag out, never experienced this in combination with the darts dropping though.
Did you ever try War Thunder? Since you like flying you should try it, flying is more challenging and fun there.
do a round w/ the dog fighter loadout and try to snipe ppl with the extra zoom

lucas wenceslao torres capra I agree. most pilots will break off from an attack, but the better ones know how to actually engage and kill AA gunners
if anything, I would lower indirect damage and doubled direct damage. QF1 AA should reward players for accuracy. I would also slightly Increase range so we can shoot bombers flying way above.

I feel like all of the nerfs are going to ruin this game. people need to stop complaining and learn how to play.
I think they should buff the fighter plane darts against bombers I know they used to be op but the damage went from 100% one shot kill to 5 damage????? A NERF FOR THE AA? MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED.
Just kill the range, that's all i'm asking.
Aaron Jake They are nerfing the splash damage. Directs hit are what ground troops using AA will need 5o do to be most effective
Well that's even better. I actually had my gf, who has never played, use the AA to prove my point..she took down two Attack Planes, no problem.
aa nerf 50% less damage fighters 40% bombers. the one counter to air and they nerf it wd dice :D casualfield ftw
they are nerfing the CONTACT damage, not the splash damage. Splash damage is responsible for most ground to air kills.
veryimportantthought Yeah that's What I notice when I use AA. Usually I see the splash hit the plane. I rarely get direct hits unless it's a bomber
watching this in the shower lol
Brand0oo wtf why ?
why.. not?
Plane kills make's him yet :D
TheRoyalCoconut I, too, get yet by the airplanes.
