Love you uncut videos, Justin. Makes me feel like I am in the boat with you. The origins of the phrase "close but no cigar" comes from carnival barkers in the 1920's and 1930's. If you won at a game, say, skee ball, you got a cigar. If however you failed, you were told you were "close, but no cigar"........anyway, bit of trivia for you and the other fishermen out there. Keep the videos coming Justin. You are a breath of fresh air. Give ole' Daphanie a few pat pats for me.........
I have to say….over the years me and Aviana have been doing more and more ultralight fishing. You’re exactly right when you say it’s great to get back to a simpler way of fishing! Great video! Keep these raw and uncuts coming!
Try ‘em, deep fried ? I hear those funny folks eatem, but me I’m into real Beef? Those worm eaters , can ya imagine kissen a lady who just ate raw grasshoppers, think of it they get that free tobaccar from hoppers , lols
Come to the desert in the summer then fish in 110° degree highs and lows in the 80° then tell about hot. Don't worry though it's just a dry heat. If the wind blows it's just a convection heat on
just got an idea , u said u forgot your measuring board ,if u get an foot long sticker an place it just in front of ur rod holder on the black flat looking area if its big enough..you would always have a way to measure your bait fish, an one less thing to have to remember... thanks for another fishing adventure with kayak catfish ,tight lines , safe an fun fishing
Come up to Michigan and show me how to fish the saint joseph river. I live in a campground on the river and would love to start targeting the big monsters lurking in the river, state record came out of the same river.
“Close, but no cigar” It comes from traveling fairs and carnivals from the 1800s. The prizes back then were not giant-sized stuffed teddy bears, they were usually cigars or bottles of whiskey. If you missed the prize at a carnival game, the carnie folk would shout, “Close! But no cigar!”
Great video as always thanks for taking us along it definitely helps fill the void of being not being able to go myself i cant catch a good day off work with little to no wind to go and i know you have had the same trouble down your way i appreciate what you do for us making these videos i love the raw and uncut and it gives people that may be just learning to fish a true prospective of what fishing really is with the snags and limb cast what to really expect when they go not to mention the knowledge of gear they need to make the experience of fishing as fun as possible
All of your videos are the most amazing and awesome 👍 videos I've ever seen!!! You're not only a great teacher, your commentary is hilarious 😂😆! Justin, you were born to do what you do. Thank you so much for what you do!!! You Sir are a great man. May God bless you and keep you safe and healthy 🙏!!! And for goodness sake, win the tournament this weekend 👍. My money definitely is on you, and for the record, it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm your biggest fan! You are the mayor of golly woper town 😁!!!!! Go get em Justin!
It’s really cool to see you were at a body of water so close to home. I live fairly close to Hoover and am getting into catfishing and trying to learn. I’m trying to utilize some of the tips and tricks that I’ve learned from your videos. I only bank fish, hopefully soon I’ll get into some fun size or golly whoppers. Would even take a dink, I’m not picky lol.
Justin, that was one of those rare Stick fishes, unfortunately it takes 10000 of those stick fishes to equal one regular fish { Bream} { Small one at that}.... great video, wishing you the best of luck in the tournament, Go, Dawgs Go!!!
YAAAY, UNCUT!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (it was fun while it lasted😂) I've said it before and I'll say it again, that GULP bait IS awesome! I've used it myself and it does work.😃 You have NO IDEA how glad I am that you said that about fishing with crickets!! That is the only thing I won't fish with. I grew up seeing it done but I just cannot put my hand in there to get them. They jump!🦗😵
When your line gets stretched take off your spool when you get home and soak the spool with line in a a glass of hot tap water for 15 min and it will relaxe the line and rid memory of line too it works give it a try ! Use hot water from tap not boiling water 15 min soak it's worth it and old line to revive it !!! Money saver
I'm just curious you use the gopro to film with, right? How do you keep it from overheating, especially in that sun I have the new gopro hero 11 and if I'm recording for over say 10-20 minutes it's wants to turn off because it's saying it's too hot I'm just curious how you keep it from overheating. Lol nvm I actually just saw your clip with the camera overheated
I took your advice and tried gulp minnows, starting late last year up to now. Ive caught untold amounts of Red-Eyes; and Blue Gills, but the more legendary for me is I caught a Walleye, and a Channel Cat on them as well. The Walleye was at Flannagan Lake which is local to me and the Channel Cat was a recent catch at the pond in the Breaks Park. Thanks man and keep up the videos I watch them all the time.
I watched the video with the blue on the ultra light, you landed it as far as I am concerned. I would never havecgot it to the kayak, boat or shore!! Lol.
Good luck on tournament Justin. Can I make a suggestion for the future. Amazon sales a tape measure decal that you can stick on the lip of the kayak. So you always have a ruler.
Trileen xt is the best line that exists 10lbs I bring in 40lbs flats and carp on it often still works on smaller stuff like bass and it will bring up heavy tree limbs
Great video and that Blue was fun to watch, Congrats on being in the magazine INFISHERMAN!!!!!! I subscribe to them so if ever you get back to Louisville, Ky you can sign by your picture. Fish on and be SAFE!!
I’m commenting as I watch. Fairs aren’t the same as they used to be and the fair I grew up going to was nothing like the TVA fair in Knoxville. We went to the fair to look at the quilts and art show. Also to see who won for best roses, pies - sorry no pickles Aunt Bea! We also would get free ink pens and junk. Fair food makes me drool. Ain’t nothing like a fair corn dog or hotdog. Funnel cake! Fair food is so fun! I’ve not been to the fair since 2007. 😢oh it was memorable.
I put a comment on your recent live stream asking if you were still using the streamers. I asked that to lead into asking if you thought about or tried using a 3" gulp minnow for the same purpose.
I went ultra lite fishing last week , got a 5 pound rock fish . Fought him for 4 or 5 minutes. Got him in the yak . I was proud I got that 5 pound rock in the yak on 2 pound line . Yes it was a rock … lol
Funny that you got into talking about fairs, that is where "close but no cigar" comes from. In some of the games the prize you could win was a cigar. If you didn't win, it was common for the host to yell out "close but no cigar"
love of the video. when buying the line, get a sticker ruler then you always have one lol. live bait fishing l like 4lb. just in case the big one bites. stay safe.
The fastest way I've found to catching perch is with a nightcrawler and small split shot and fishing on the bottom. The perch much prefers the worm on the bottom. I've seen days the perch wouldn't touch a worm under a cork. Just remember not to leave the boat on bottom more than 5 seconds if they are biting well, or they sallow it.
Those gulp minnows are deadly. I fish a river near home here and use them. I use them weightless with an octopus hook through the eyes so it can move side to side. When the water warms in the next couple of months better, they usually blast it when it hits the water. Good video dude.
On your way back to the landing, after catching a big fish on ultralite spinning gear, drag that fishing line, with nothing tied on. It will untwist it, and itll be perfect.
I love this raw and uncut video's justin even with the technical difficulties lol I'm excited to see how you do in this tournament good luck my friend hope you won it or at least placed in the top 3

I’ve used gulp minnows plenty only thing I don’t like about em is that when I forget I leave them on my jigs and they just dry out and get rock hard and then I gotta break them into pieces to get ‘em off
Oh I forgot to congratulate you today: you didn't wrap the line around your rod tip while talking (especially considering what that little blue cat did to your line) and you didn't throw one in the trees. Looked like a real professional also saw the article in In fisherman magazine .🎣🎣🎣
The line problem you are having is easily remedied by placing a barrel swivel on your hook and tie another hook on the other end of the swivel and hook it to a fence, bumper, post or something solid back off about 50 ~ 75 feet tighten your line and as you pump your rod stretching and relaxing pressure. after 10 or so pumps take swivel off problem solved.

💯
That stick fish was a keeper m8. 😂😂
Crickets are great anywhere!
Looking forward to your next jigging for catfish video.

It's crazy how hard it is to find good 2lb line. I've been thinking of going to 6lb braid it's supposed to bee smaller than 2lb mono. Just a thought
I use the trout magnet sos 2lb line. It’s pretty good quality. I have tried braid but the wind knots in the small diameters are a pain to deal with.
