  • Intimidator 305 is an Intamin giga coaster at Kings Dominion. This NASCAR themed coaster features a near-vertical plunge and an oddly low-to-the-ground layout. This coaster is incredibly intense, as it's one of the best in the world for speed and wild transitions. But is it too intense?
    This ride was renamed Project 305 for the 2024 season.

      By my count, it has more airtime moments than any other giga in North America. And I love that it has some traditional airtime plus some very unconventional airtime moments. That variety with the airtime makes it the best giga for airtime in my opinion.

    Kings Dominion is my home park so I was fortunate enough to ride Intimidator 305 on its opening day in 2010. It was absolutely insane and honestly was too intense to open in my opinion. I blacked out and immediately had to go to First Aid (your comment in the video was very relatable for me). With that said, I went on it again 30 minutes later because I loved it!! The intensity of the ride in 2010 was indescribable. I much prefer the reprofiled slower version because it allows the riders to appreciate each element more. The original ride was too fast to really notice anything. I agree with you about everything - the second hill is especially underrated. A brilliant ride. And a fantastic video review as always! :)

      Yeah, I rode it like 20 times in 2 days last year and was graying out a little bit. I got 6 rides yesterday and completely blacked out on a few of them and grayed out pretty hard on the rest. On my first ride, I was completely blacked out until the trim brakes and was sort of day dreaming even after that. I held my breath for about half of the first drop and into the turn around on that ride, so that definitely added to the black out.

    Most intense coaster I’ve been on. Literally scrambles my brain to the point where my body is disoriented after getting off. Not nausea, but just, after two times I have to walk off like “that’s enough”. Being in the back gives me sustained airtime all the way from the top of the lift hill to the bottom 1/4 of the drop, then while I’m recovering from that I’m flying over the camelback. No dull moments just a rush!

  • @collinparsons3363
    @collinparsons3363 2 года назад +6

    I-305 is what you get when a park designs a coaster for enthusiasts, rather than the GP who make up the vast majority of park attendance. The trim brake is fixed, so it always hits. It was designed into the original layout because the last few elements are very tight and need to be taken at a lower speed. The problem with it being a fixed trim is that when trains are not full or running slow, it will effectively hit harder than it will with a full train.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 года назад +2

    Before I became an enthusiast in 2017 the most intense coaster I had ridden before my trip to Kings dominion was ravine flyer 2, a somewhat intense wooden coaster. I was GP and knew nothing about kings dominion going in, and when I went from ravine flyer to i305, arguably the most intense coaster ever built, it goes without saying I was blown away. I totally adore this ride, easily my favorite giga! That trim is the only slight imperfection for me, but the hill still delivers. I even like the view from the top, looking out over the forest. It makes it feel like a more remote location and enhances the night rides. I prefer that to looking towards the park and far more than looking towards suburbs or a parking lot.
    I love that you gave attention to the airtime moments that most enthusiasts don't even realize are there. Those may not be traditional hills, but they still give airtime. It drives me crazy when even enthusiasts say that it has almost no airtime moments. I didn't really count before, but following your detailed review, I think I got to 9 airtime moments, even if some are quick pops mixed with laterals. They all count in my book.

    I305 and Fury are two entirely different rides as is Intimidator at Carrowinds. The forces of I305 are incredible, and the first drop feels like you dive straight down. Fury is super fast, but so smooth that you never really feel the same forces, and believe me or not Inimidator at Carowinds feels like it has the most air time and the least restrictive restraints of all three. All three very fun and intense for completely different reasons. I was surprised the first time I rode Fury, because from the outside it looks to be the most forceful of the 3.

      @@CanobieCoaster I agree, the drop feels like you're falling and the first turn is the most intense force that I have ever felt on a coaster. The first air time hill gives you a completely different sensation and then the switchbacks another completely different twist. But have you ridden Intimidator Carowinds? Where it lacks in speed and force, the seating configuration makes you feel like you're sitting outside the vehicle and up high, giving the rider a very exposed feeling. 3 great rides.

    Rode this recently and it’s my new favorite roller coaster easily, it’s been nearly 4 years since I rode Lightning Rod and it’s finally been dethroned, and what better ride than the one at the very top of my bucket list, I’ve now ridden every lift hill giga!
    This thing had me laughing hysterically on some rides, the front row ride was by far my favorite and I laughed so hard there.
    This is the first roller coaster that has ever made me gray-out, I’ve had some times where I thought I did, but it must have just been the wind in my eyes cuz I know what that really feels like now, that turn up into the big hill is my favorite part of the ride.
    I love just about everything about this ride, the seats are comfortable and I noticed they accommodate larger riders pretty well, the theme honors an absolute legend and if you know the story of Dale Earnhardt it hits that much harder!
    The way the lines are so short you can hop right back in, getting that many rides in on such an incredible coaster feels too good to be true!
    I noticed that every time you walk off the ride it’s timed perfectly to see the train that left the station fly by, and as you walk under the brakes it’s timed to hit them right as you walk under them, perfection!
    I don’t even mind the walk back around to get back in line because it’s so scenic.
    I can’t even believe something like this exists and is available to the public, the only downsides I can think of is that the water from the wheels can drip on you on the lift hill, and there’s no drinking fountain nearby.
    But the biggest downside of all is that I live in Ohio, I wanna ride this thing every single day!

  • @eeman0201
    @eeman0201 5 месяцев назад

    Little bit random, but I’ve been tinkering with fvd and discovered why those snappy sections manage to give airtime. If you have the snap happen while sustaining at high forces, in order to maintain those forces, the track needs to go up from the perspective of the riders. This means the ride can stay flat and sustain high forces when the car is sideways, but for the time that the car is upright during the roll, the track has to be curving up to sustain the high positives.
    Thus, I learned it was necessary to drop the forces down to floater just during the roll in order to keep the roll flat.

    Good review. Sure maybe it would only be a 8-9 on an objective scale where Fury came out about as perfect as could be, and the only thing unique about it is how far it takes things, but that couldn't be more relevant to my interests. Intamin also really came through on its trackwork.
    I'd definitely call the 3rd hill also ejector though (and amazing), and I don't know if you meant the negative Gs are as strong as T Timbers on the 2nd hill because I don't think they are.
