Great video Roxanne! I used to be petrified of dropped stitches until I learned how to do this. It really is easy and once mastered it’s so helpful! Thanks for another great tutorial!🤗🤗

I love your respectful attitude towards the knitting and the student. No question is too simple to answer in detail including the whys and wherefores. I have seen many explanations of laddering-but your comments about direction and leg of stitch and placement back on needle make your instrux invaluable to newbie and experienced knitter alike. Much appreciated.

Hell yea it’s an important skill. I can vouch for that 😂. I go to videos like this now to learn instead of taking it allll out like I used to do for, well, way too long!

These are the tips I need! It's such a pain to re-knit and I tend to get discouraged. Thanks for the video :)

This was very useful. I’ve been knitting wash cloths using Purl stitches to make my grandson’s initial. Knowing how to correct misplaced knits / purls will help a lot. Thank you!

Once when I had a lot of stitches to drop to get to the misplaced purl in a ribbed hat (20+ rows) I discovered a way of using two double-pointed needles (they're still good for something.) I tend to lose my way with a crochet hook and I'm very good att missing those dropped-stitch threads. So I started out by placing all those threads on a DPN, and then the rest evolved out of that. Basically, you turn your piece of knitting on the side, then insert one DPN behind the column of stitches that you've just dropped to get to the mistake. That way, you get them all organised and separated, looking rather like stitch loops. You then use the other needle to catch the live stitch and fix your mistake, and after that you just knit your way back up the column. I'm naturally left-handed except when I knit, so I use the left hand as the "active" one in this scenario. Though I presume that it could be done the other way around.

I never thought to get a crochet hook to do that, I usually use a cable needle to reknit up the column, but this looks easier. thanks

Thank you Roxanne for the so many ways you share your skills. I have a question about laddering down stitches, in a garter pattern. The project in question is about the outside or first stitch on the outside. My pattern calls for knitting the last stitch on wrong side row then turn over to right side, slip first stitch off, bring working yarn to back and continue knitting garter. I know it is possible to take out those first stitches, correct mistake and put the outside stitches back in place. This is pretty advanced for me and I just make a mess. Can you help, please?

Hi Roxanne! Thank you for this informative video. What if laddering down for knit and purl columns that are right next to each other widens the rungs too much and the resulting columns (I'm working on a 1x1 ribbing) are now too far apart? Is there a way to re-tighten the ribbing, or is it a lost cause?

Try using a larger crochet hook to ladder up, which will remove slack from between the sts. You can also manually distribute the excess slack to the adjoining sts. And finally, this sort of difference will often disappear after washing, and/or over time.
