My blood boils when they glorify our invaders. Why exactly has the BJP not attempted to change our history books in 7 years? Without reading history we can't relate it to current affairs as well. The Islamic invasions have existed throughout 1400 years. Same pattern. It was Mughals,Lodis and Khiljis before and now it's the Taliban and the ISIS. We should know the correct history in order to learn from it,make peace with it and move on

Someone has to write those books, with the High School Curriculum in mind, and what about the teachers - what background do they have in the understanding of history and the twisted narratives that can be extracted and lit in the light of the dominant narrative of the colonialist hangover. It has taken nearly 75 years to rebuild self-confidence to the point where the majority are questioning and interrogating these distorted ‘Histories’. The re-claiming by India, or rightly, Bharat, of its own heritage is at a breakthrough point, so hold fast, stay true! This is YOUR Dharma.

Very difficult to understand the theory which Tharoor puts forward that Mughals spend their loot in India instead of hauling it away. Doesn’t he understand, it would have been very difficult to do that, and inspite of that they did share some of the loot with Middle Eastern rulers. Would Tharoor say the same thing if his own wealth was looted and the looter becomes his neighbor and didn’t take the loot far away. Even worse, if members of his family were dishonored, would he have been happy, that they are still living in his neighborhood. Such a sellout and traitorous mentality he has. He is continuing the tradition of many traitors of Bharat in the past, such Manasingh of Jaipur.

Sounds like my history class in 7th & 8th standard ICSE boards where there were dedicated chapters to Chola dynasty and the Rajputs and Marathas etc but our teacher only taught us the slave dynasty and the lodhis and what not. Basically, the history related to Northern India (I am from the North of India). Kanishka was just a paragraph I guess.
It was not like NCERT where there are no dedicated chapters itself, those books in the ICSE were thick for 7th-8th standard. It was just that our teacher used to omit those chapters by saying "not in the syllabus". But we were just kids, we were happy, the lesser the better.
I wish I still had those books so that I could read those chapters. 🤣
In order to lessen the syllabus, NCERT took a chance and introduced alternate history I guess. "Too lengthy a syllabus you say? You shall not die... here! Shorter books with alternate historical facts. Enjoy."
The irony! They omitted the better parts of our history whilst using the demands of parents and students alike as a shield.

The word for History ( His story) in Sanskrit is Itihaasa, which means that this is the way it happened. That is open to interpretation. For these marxists to advocate their view, there is nothing wrong, but to claim that only their viewpoint is correct and other viewpoints are wrong is totally against the hindu concept of "Tarka" or debate. Akira Kurosawa in his 50s masterpiece movie " Rashomon" has proved how several people saw the same incident and gave different interpretations. That is the same way with History. As far as i am concerned, the Nehruwadis and Congress have done more harm and loot in India than 300 years of british colonial rule.

    • @sutapasbhattacharya9471

LOL - It has been well-established for decades that History is open to multiple interpretations. However, some interpretations may be completely unjustifiable given lack of evidence, lack of regard for facts etc. Your final sentence shows a disregard for facts as the British did not rule for even 200 years let alone 300 - in some places less than 100 - Bengal was conquered in 1757 and the Sikh Empire in 1849. Furthermore, regardless of how bad you think Nehru and the INC were [I am not a Congress supporter] - where is your evidence for your final statement? Did the INC kill tens of millions of the poorest Indians by creating dozens of manmade famines - including the setting up of Death Camps which operated like the later Buchenwald etc. as occurred under the British? How did the INC manage to ferret away at least US$45 Trillion from India as the British did - can you supply the evidence? Did the INC rule result in no growth whatsoever in Indian GDP per capita as occurred in the entire period of British Rule. Did life expectancy for ordinary Indians fall 20% as in the 50 years between 1871-1921? Was India systematically deindustrialized and turned into a plantation producing raw materials for a foreign country which looted India's wealth......?

Listening to the India Today Conclave discussion, my feeling was actually quite the converse of what the title of this video suggests! I thought that debate rounded itself off pretty nicely - with the 'Left', the 'Centre' and the 'Right' all coming together and actually AGREEING on certain core points of malaise!
Just as Mr. Tharoor 'revealed' that History was used as a tool for Nation-Building, in the aftermath of Independence, Mr. Sampath similarly declared that History has ALWAYS been the "handmaiden" of Politics!
For me, the take-home from that rather interesting debate was really the assertion of the age-old quagmire of modern Indian life - POLITICS has it's finger in every damned pie, and that is the CRUX of the problem!!!

He makes a pretension of being an English scholar by searching for archaic words in English and uttering them before audiences many fools are impressed. He accuses British rule, but he held some good positions internationally because of his knowledge of English. As to history, he has read the muck dished out by commie so-called historians like Thapar at the behest of our anti-Hindu, pro-mughal Nehru. He came from the same district as I do, but he is not a Tharoor really.

Misogyny and caste discrimination were absent in Sanatan. This is why our itihas is written by the so called dalits, and our greatest emperors, the Nandas and the Mauryas, were also 'dalits' as per the modern definition. Discrimination came in with muslims who were from societies whose foundational sources of wealth were Slave Trade, hence their economy rested upon discriminatory dehumanisation. This is also why islam literally legitimises loot, arson, rape etc as it was the product of slave trader thinking. The long tenure of islamic rule made such practices the norm, much like the British rule normalised goverental callousness and cultural inferiority complexes. If a mere 200 years of the Brits could change our mindsets then imagine how potent 800 years of islamic barbarity would have been in altering Hindu society beyond all recognition. Even muslims, converted a mere 2-3 generations ago with utmost cruelty, have become staunch supporters of their tormentors and a prime example of the Stockholm Syndrome.

India's history has always been torn between civilisation builders and destruction by invading looters from the Yavannas, Haftali, Mahmud Ghazni, Timurids and Mughals- include Brits if you insist. Rather than look at history from the jaundiced prism of dialectics see instead actually whom had a deleterious effect on the subcontinent as far as dharma vs adharma behaviour is concerned.

    Vikram sampath a leading historian?
The best he could be described is a Savarkar apologist.
However he has a good knack of writing history, no doubt, but he had been selective in his book on Savarkar, bent some facts to suit his agenda,
Always gave his subjective and biased interpretations of Savarkar’s deeds.
Can't be said as a leading historian, because the amount of work historians do is immense.
Only if he could do such for many more matters only could he be called a leading historian.
He doesn't have an extensive bibliography to his name yet.
