A lot of people like to defult to a shotgun mic which can be good for cutting out the background noise, but I chose to use a stereo mic not only because its the only mic in my arsenal right now, but feel that the crowd can really change the feeling of a lot performance from just a warm up, to an intement interaction between the crowd and performers.
+Erik Lindquist cool beans, yeah i've been looking for a mic to use this summer with my Sony A6000. don't know what mics are compatible that i could use, outside of the sony ones of course
+Erik Lindquist looking at pictures online, it does not look like your camera has a dedicated mic jack, but a lot of people also like to record sound on external resources like the Zoom H4N is really popular and there are carious mounts you could buy to attach it dorectly to your camera via the hot shoe mount or however else you say it. if you go with this choice I also highly recommend getting a windscreen for it because the mics are very sensative.
external sound recorders can even sometimes be better since you are recording sound directly to the device and can adjust setting and everything right there instead of going through the camera settings.
I'd say most of this lot consisted of drunk alumni cobras *clapclapclap*
