  • A day in the life, living off the grid using solar power at a beautiful free campsite.
    See all of our Off The Grid and Solar Videos here: www.gonewithth...
    We love being out there, in the wild and so while staying in a campground with lots of amenities and full hookups has its allure; our absolute and favorite type of camping is Boondocking or as we like to say, Wild Camping! There is nothing better than driving deep into the wild where the views are never ending and the sounds are au nat-ur-el! Plus, it's usually free (yep the free camping part is definitely a bonus)! Sure there are no hook ups (water, electric, cable or sewer), but it doesn't mean you have to live like a heathen.
    Spend a day in the RV with us as we live "off the cord" at Fishtrap Lake BLM near Spokane Washington.

    This is the video that started my love for The Wynns several years ago and launched my dream to travel on land or water or both. My life has changed so much, but the dream remains constant.

    Seriously, anytime we need inspiration, this is the video we watch!! This is what made us want to full time RV and we've made it for a year. Ups and downs (mostly ups:), but you've inspired us to live OUR dream. So, thanks a million times. With your guidance, we started with solar and a composting toilet. After a year, we agree that it's def the way to live in an RV/travel trailer. Once again, thanks for the inspiration. You guys totally and beautifully changed our lives. Thanks for the adventure of a lifetime:)

    sadrand,
    we had our solar installed in Manteca, CA. The shop managers didn't give us any discounts, but they did connect us with the best technician who took pride in his work, so overall we're happy with the install. The Solar is from GoPower!

    2012escapee1 we originally had 135watts on the roof and that did just fine for 2 years. We wanted to go more off the grid and really get to know solar and our usage, that's why we upgraded the solar.

    We have two UL16HC house batteries on board. We don't always use this much in a day, it was mostly for experimental purposes to see how far we could push the batteries. Our induction plate is from Caso, it's a German company, it's been good for us over the past year or so.
    All the other details I'm not sure of, we're not very technical people we just know 'real world' from our experience.

      Josh Stallings We can say whatever we want as there isn't any sort of deal like that with fleetwood. We do still love the vesta (the looks can't be beat by anything current) but it still wasn't perfect, neither are the fleetwoods. We haven't found the perfect coach yet.

  • @gonewiththewynns
    @gonewiththewynns  11 лет назад

    fixt100 you've got a great point. I wonder if the towing process could even charge the batteries in the tow car? I doubt electric cars are too heavy to tow because many RV's we see towing big trucks!
    There could be an issue with the amperage of the batteries in the cars charging from the battery in the RV, but I'm no expert in this area.
    You've peaked my interest for sure, so I'll start looking around.

    Tilting panels is great for capturing more sun...but you have to be around your RV throughout the day so you can tilt with the sun. Also we're afraid we'll end up driving away with the panels tilted and end up losing them on the road!

    We watched this video in 2013 right after we made the scary (for us) decision to purchase a beautiful 1993 Foretravel U280 motorhome. It was our first ever RV of any type, and we were looking for help anywhere we could find it. A friend recommended Gone With the Wynns, and so we met Jason and Nikki. This amazing couple helped us SO much during the steep part of our learning curve. They explained mysterious RV topics in a fun and yet informative manner. They introduced us to technology that made our camping life more comfortable. They pointed the way to destinations that we had never considered. They helped us in ways they will never know. As the years flew by, we watched them transition from land to sea, and yet they still remained as enjoyable as always. We still have our first motorhome, and have never regretted our purchase. Jason and Nikki have been an integral part of our life on the road, and we are so happy to count ourselves as loyal fans. I hope we can cross paths some day so we can thank them in person. Until then, THANK YOU and GOOD FORTUNE always!

  • @VanlifewithAlan
    @VanlifewithAlan 10 лет назад

    I am amazed that you can use so many electrical appliances. Having said that, I would not use the batteries when they were down to 11.9V - that is much less than a 55% charge.
    Not many people have 6V batteries although all experts I have come across recommend them over 12V. In your situation - as you say - I would upgrade on that one.

    Smart makes a diesel that gets something like 60MPG however we can't get it here in the states (we're stuck with the 40mpg gas version.
    We use our smart car 3-5 days per week, often times we are camping so far out in the wilderness we have to drive a lot of miles to run any necessary errands so not sure an all electric car would work unless it would get over 100 miles per charge.

    I wanted to say that seeing your video inspired the design of our solar system on our boondocking trailer. I am still testing but it will be 750w mounted flat, 230w portable and 675 Ah of battery bank in three Lifeline 8-ds. We do most of the cooking on a electric hot plate or solar ovens. Use a auto drip for coffee and heating small amounts of water, (dishes) use the microwave, hair dryer, vacuum, even a 200w bathroom heater for those cold mornings. Add in the TV/sat, charging phones, computers, cameras and we still don't really put a dent in the bank. Oh yeah, the system is designed to run a 5000 BTU air conditioner while the batteries are in float with just the mounted panels. I still want to add a small fridge and a hot rod to the water heater. Total output of the full system at peak sun is over 60a. Someday I hope to make our own video. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Very good Wynn's. You surely do have the right stuff! Hey, one consideration that I have learned of would be the Berkey water purifier instead of he electrically hungry osmosis machine. The Berkey does not require any electricity and most tests I have seen showed it to clean water at least as bad as what I saw you distilling. It will also clean and purify it much faster.

    3 solar water distiller - or better yet a solar atmospheric water generator

    Thanks Bugout! I'd consider myself a pretty darn lucky guy too. We know the feeling of searching for sun with solar, if you do head east our site was awesome...and what better time to head away from the coast than now when it's rainy and grey?!?

    Outstanding video! Awesome use of resources without much compromise in lifestyle. Consider adding a wind gen for those blustery days & nights adding the ability to charge 24 hrs a day.

      We looked into wind turbines but they don't seem to be a good solution for RV's. Oh well.

    Although I do love a good raindrops on the aluminum rooftop stormy night what gets me is I have been seeing widow-makers drop all around me and when the trees are 150' high should one go timber then I'd be a pancake. One tree is leaning a good 20 degrees thankfully in the other direction after a pretty fierce wind hit it a few hours ago. Finger crossed.
    Arizona's heat is looking good right about now. This former Marine doesn't dig all those freeway checkpoints though.
    Cheers...

    Awesome guys. There is a feeling unique to having a little RV with it's own power generation system that just can't be explained. We get it.
    We check in with you guys all the time, happy to be on a similar path :-)

    If you put a simple black rubber 'bag tank' on the roof, it will heat your water.
