  • Lovely Menorca!
This is one of our favourite holiday destinations before and after the kids.
Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands in Spain surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, that means, the pinecone trees aromas will go through your nostrils remind you that you are in the Mediterranean, indeed.
Menorca has beautiful wild beaches as it is a protected territory, and you need to pay an eco tax if you want to stay.
The top beaches are Cala Pregona, Cala Macarella, Cala Macarelleta, Cala Pilar (red sand) but there are many more.
Depending on which beach you want to visit, be prepared to do additional walking like 10-15 minutes from the cark park, all worth it.
Also, check if the beach has toilets or food as some of the beaches are 100% wild.
If you want to move around the island, you will need to hire a car, which I recommend not too big as the roads are a bit stretchy.
Don’t miss the beautiful traditional villages, especially in the evening, Binibeca it’s a must.
If you fancy a relaxing drink, Sa Cova is the perfect place, unforgettable.
For food, this island has very fresh food including sea food, so don’t miss fish in your stay including paella, black paella, fideua or caldereta (fisherman’s soup).
Caldereta is the traditional dish from the island, there are different variations but the original is lobster caldereta, it’s a seafood soup severed with toasted bread.
All restaurants will offer a good caldereta but Es Cranc is famous for that, you may need to book in advance 2 months.
Also, the island is famous for the good quality leather products and food products including cured meats, cheese, pastries and gin.
Before going home, don’t forget to buy an ensaimada in the airport with different feelings.
Hope you visit Menorca and love it as much as I do.
    Until next time,
    Cristina
