People have a lot of opinions around the return of the MGS franchise, which is understandable. One thing people forget with how Konami treated Kojima is that those people are gone now. I only got into Metal Gear in 2023 and i am excited for the future if Delta is good.
@@nashtheneetI still remember when they hid that message in Survive that was pro-Kojima haha. Hopefully the series gets back on track now but it's too bad they have so much baggage to content with*
Quit holding kojima on a pedestal kid. You realize he never even met David hater and didn’t care? That loses all respect. On top of that without Konami metal gear wouldn’t exist. Kojima’s team saved us from really stupid ideas.
I recently got into MGS a while ago because of your vids and was blown away with how much of a masterpiece these games are. I got really addicted to the story and character's that I had to play the older games on old gen console. I can’t wait for MGS Delta and I hope that Big Boss and eventually Solid Snake can get more recognition and love. Also, keep the MGS vids coming Jay much love bro. Also I need Naked Snake & The Boss Funko Pop’s when they drop 🙏 last thing (sorry for rambling) I’d love for Dino Crises to make a comeback.
"Have people forgotten what Metal Gear was?" This is actually a very good question and I feel - based on online comments - that this is the case. The anticipation of new games in the series is understandable and people's enthusiasm is a completely positive phenomenon, personally I have nothing against it. Being honest about the identity of Metal Gear, though, it is obvious that subsequent entries (or even remakes of older games) will not represent what the series is essentially about. What makes it IT is not the specific cast, or the mechs, or the stealth gameplay - it is actually a combination of all these elements, but executed by a specific group of people who will not be involved in the creation of new games. No matter how much one wants to emulate the design style of the original MGs, it will always be just... emulation. I don't mean to complain, just to point out that yes, Friends - Metal Gear is over, this point in gaming history is behind us and it's time to move on.
I think a series that's been forgotten is Little big planet. But for MGS I think the series would benefit from remakes for all the games so it can be played by another generation and be easily accessible . Love the vids Jay.
LBG is such a shame too with the fact that so many community creations were lost when it all got shut down... It just was sad in general. I really appreciate that btw, thank you!
I didn't grow up playing MGS and I enjoyed the original games. Remakes do more harm than good by saying that the original gameplay which was some of the best I've ever played is somehow outdated
"Every night I can feel my leg, my arm, even my fingers. The body I've lost, the comrades I've lost, won't stop hurting. It's like they're all still there. You feel it too, don't you?"
Star Fox is DEFINITELY a franchise Nintendo has ignored. For 6, I feel bad Nintendo hasn't given us a new Kid Icarus game. Or at least give us a remake of Kid Icarus Uprising
I feel like metal gear is at the best place rn, because of the popularity is getting again, take the Invisible meme, and the fortnite collab, the master collection, it makes a huge "this exists" mark to other people who are not familiarized with the franchise, making new people get interested in it.
2:44 Splinter Cell, classic Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, SWAT games, F.E.A.R., Army of Two, Legacy of Kain series, The Darkness, Dino Crisis, Star Trek Elite Force, Kane & Lynch, Manhunt, Condemned, Max Payne, Black & White, Syphon Filter, Batman Arkham series, Unreal Tournament, Quake,
My biggest problem with konami isn't just how they treated Kojima, it's how they treated their whole staff. They created an extremely toxic workplace by monitoring people and restricting their rights as employees. There's a reason why so many people left with Kojima. And yes I am aware that some of the higher ups aren't in charge anymore. The game series I'd want to make a return is Ape escape, but now with Japan studios gone, I don't think it's gonna happen.
I like Metal Gear Soild 1-4, I think Rising, PW and V were the wrong direction for the series. Kojima had already lost the sprit of the series before he left, but he didn't deserve the treatment he got from Konami. Metal Gear has always been a series about looking to the future while respecting the past, so I would be happy to let someone with fresh eyes tackle the series provided some of the genes and memes be left intact.
@@aldraone-mu5yg it is a spinoff though so it's completely fine. i don't get what the issue is with mgr when cyborgs were already a thing in the games and do crazy shit. like raiden throwing a metal gear isnt THAT crazy in the mgs universe if at all
@gordonfeetman445 Too be fair the power level of cyborgs in Metal Gear has always been confusing, like in MGS4 Raiden has too cut his arm off becuse it's stuck under a rock but 30 seconds later he can hold back the weight of Outer Heaven. But it's the tone of Rising that's the problem really, they can't make the silliness seem plausible like Kojima could, so it feels like a parody. I can imagine it being one of the commercials at the beginning of 4.
The best example of metal gear coming back could be through metal gear rising, that game had a different writer and was developed by platinum games and it is awesome, i hope we eventually get a sequel to it
I'll leave my comment from another similar video, since it fits well with the topic of this one. I'm about to express my personal opinion based on the information I've found through the past years, so please don't take it close to your heart. I do agree that Metal Gear doesn't need Kojima, in fact, I could say that it didn't need him since MGS 3. Perhaps he finished the story with MGS2", but there are many little stories that are untold in that universe, and I will always be happy to jump back into that world, doesn't matter if I'm playing again as solid, naked, or perhaps someone completely different. Kojima is a great visionary, but that's where his importance, in fact, ends. Many things we praise the game for were made by different people, that are not given enough credit for their work. Tomokazu Fukushima, was the person behind the genius story of MGS 2, not Kojima, and this alone is a great example on how MGS doesn't need him anymore. Especially after the way he treats many people that give all of them to make Metal Gear better, Hayter being replaced, Jeremy being kicked out, tho the words he used such as codec remained in the game, and wouldn't ever appear if not him. All I'm saying is, tho Kojima is a great game designer and visionary, he's the genius whom you're not supposed to tell about his greatness because it would corrupt him, and that's exactly what happened, he became egoistic, and tho Konami are indeed assholes for other various reasons, I understand why they kicked him out. I love Kojima's work, but with people who genuinely love the franchise, Metal Gear can achieve far more than with Kojima as for now. Kojima doesn't want anyone to work on MGS, and he also doesn't want to continue the games, it's a loop, and the only exit from it, was him leaving Konami
I generally think people need to move on from the Kojima/Konami split. It has been a decade and it is pretty clear that the parties involved have pretty much buried the hatchet. Noriaki Okamura (the current producer for MG) has expressed that he would love to work with Kojima again. Kojima himself wanted to be more independent for the longest time and I feel there was always going to be a separation regardless of how good/bad the work relationship was.
Well, it’s been a decade since the last entry came out (that wasn’t Metal Gear Survive) and even then in terms of popularity MGS was overshadowed by the likes of Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Uncharzed and The Last of Us. MGS PW was played by only a few and MGSV was also not well received by many in the fanvase and it was only later that people appreciated that game. In short, MGS hasn’t been a really big name in about twenty years. So how should younger people in ther teens an twenties remember it?
Yeah the keyword is "was".... Kojima WAS good at that level of detail. Tell me 1 easter egg in MGSV that can be compared to older MGS games? Was there a hidden location full of easter eggs on any of the maps? Was there any secret boss fights? Was there even an area with guard dogs or a place you could actually swim? Even the enemy adapting to your strategy thing was bullshit. Even if you play without using any weapons, enemies will all eventually get full body armor and helmets and snipers etc. Enemies don't even react to you pulling a trigger with an empty gun during a hold up. So YES i believe the series will be fine without Kojima. His days are done. Let him make his f**ked up acid mixed with weed trippy Death Stranding games.
Well mgsv is a very huge game compared to all the other mgs games, I'm sure he wanted to do things like that but considering how big the game is and how much the game was already coming out to I'm pretty sure Konami wouldn't allow him to do all of that. Not to mention but that's how games were back then I'm pretty sure you'd find it every hard to find a game with a room just for an Easter egg nowadays.
