I don't think people wanted cody over the rock. People were skeptical about rock bc of the maui fires and also didn't want him to win a championship just for him to show up once a month for like three months total

If they hadn't pivoted it could have been the death of WWE, "We want Cody" trended for three days? How many issues trended or that long since Twitter/X started? For those three days professional wrestling cross borders into mainstream focus as non wrestling fans were asking who is Cody? The end result of this was the biggest Wrestlemania of all time. I think it would be hard to top the roller coaster of feelings this whole saga produced and it's beautiful finale of the main event captured by the sweet emotional voice of Samantha announcing Cody Rhodes victory. It's been over 35 years of professional wrestling for me, this has been the best and I don't see anything topping this again.

I believe if CM Punk didn’t get injured, He would’ve won the Royal Rumble picking Seth Rollins to face at Wrestlemania 40 to believe CM Punk called a audible for Cody to win and due to Punk’s huge pop from the fans returning to WWE and the way Seth reacted to it I don’t think the fans wouldn’t push back against Punk winning the Royal Rumble and that would’ve left Roman without an opponent for Wrestlemania to do a segment on Smackdown saying how He’s going to take a vacation since the fact He doesn’t have an opponent then The Rock’s music hits to challenge Roman at Wrestlemania and they could’ve had Cody feud with Randy due to their history and legacy of their family
I think if Punk never got injured, he would’ve won at WM 40, but Priest still would’ve cashed in on him. Basically what is going on with Drew & Punk would be the other way around, like Drew costing Punk all of these matches
@@taihaul2480 I can see that and it still would’ve worked to lead to a huge personal match with Punk vs Drew at Summerslam and Seth would be on to a new feud with Priest to still end up facing each other for WC title at Money In The Bank even though that match could’ve been set for Summerslam to make those match cards even more bigger
