even if the leg cast is non weight bearing i would still suggest asking for a cast shoe to wear over the cast.

I might be getting one today
My cast is white. I do not care about the color. When my girlfriend had broken her arm, she first got a white cast on. Later a blue and finally a pink.

Though I do want to point out that he should have used Stockinette than padding and fold the Stockinette over the first layer at the top and bottom to create a clean look and keep the padding from fraying as well as protecting the patient from rough edges of fiberglass at the top and at the toes! I had a cast applied on my arm years ago without Stockinette and had to get it remade after a week cause the padding was breaking down around my thumb and palm area as well as shears edge above my elbow
