- Griha Pravesh is about marital discord in an urban setting. Amar and Mansi meet through their respective families and have an arranged marriage. I loved how Sharmila handles the situation. She doesn't cry, doesn't go hysteric, blames neither Sanjeev Kumar nor Sarika. She treats the whole incident like a mother tolerating a child gone astray for a while. She realises that her marriage is going stale and is quick enough to give it an uplift by colouring the walls and by doing a long needed round of the beauty parlour. I also liked the way Sanjeev Kumar leaves Sarika halfway in the end and a marriage procession walks between them proving that marriage always wins over an affair!!!!!
Real moral of the movie.

गुलजार साहब और बासु भट्टाचार्य जी का अप्रतिम सौन्दर्य दर्शाता गृह प्रवेश । एक ऐसी फिल्म जिसके बारे में कुछ कहना ना इंसाफी है इसे देखकर महसूस किया जा सकता है। जीवनसाथी मानसी जैसी होने का सौभाग्य सभी को मिले। अमर मानसी और सपना तीनों ही पात्र, लगता ही नहीं कि वो अभिनय कर रहे हैं एकदम स्वभाविक जैसे सबकुछ अपने साथ हो रहा है ।
गुलजार साहब को फिल्म में देखने का मौका मिला। संजीव कुमार शर्मिला टैगोर और सारिका ने अपने किरदारों को संजीदगी से निभाया। फिल्म के गीत ग़ज़ल बहुत मधुर है।

This "Grihapravesh" does not shows the entry in the home but it showed the real entry within your happy life. Movie is slow but watch it till the end.

I don't think many actors could have acted the way Sanjeev Kumar did. So natural.

The way Sharmila Tagore was able to combine so much sensuality, finesse of expressing subtle expressions and feelings in her acting even in most common attire and surroundings, no other actress matches today despite needing to deck up with so much glamour, makeup, costumes, skin show off and what not.
And yet she was the first heroine to wear a swim suit. Truly versatile.

Kanishka kushana your so called artistically inclined Bengali was prone to domestic abuse , and his wife divorced him on the same grounds. Btw this movie had Gulzar writing the screenplay along with Basu. Furthermore, There are hundreds of other popular writers from north India, Maharashtra and south India who have written classics, but people are not pompous to talk about it all the time. Some of the greatest poetry and poets come from the Punjab and UP belt. Rabindra sangeet, that Bengalis are too proud of , is actually heavily influenced by British music. So please show off your delusion during the ‘adda ‘ sessions Bengalis love to have.
Kanishka kushana and the coffee tea metaphor was used so often that it lost its charm and purpose by being too in the face. A class director would mention it fleetingly and in a very subtle way.

😢When I was 11 years old, I saw this movie in Doordarshan one sunday in 1983. I felt so bore. I was watching this movie along with one 'jethi' ( elder paternal aunt in Bengali) my neighbors house. The old lady of that house said that this film was very meaningful. I had considered it as THE DULLEST movie of my life. Now I'm 53 and a family man. I really found it so interesting. I m sure my teenage daughter won't find this film interesting as I had in her age. Thanks for uploading this film. All my lost childhood memories returned❤
Women especially heroines in 80's and 70's were looking divine, very feminine with little make up...you will simply fall in love with them...but in now 2020 you look at today's heroines with a different perspective

@@ananth218Canada I speak from what I see around me....from what I notice is that today for men it is hard to get into a relationship unless they are well off, and then if they do get into relationship/marriage then maintaining relationships due to the nature of individualism now, has made it very difficult to last. So, if someone has a spouse that loves them, then knowing the way life is now, they would not want to lose their spouse for momentary pleasure. Again, that's my view, based on my surrounding, and yours can be different, based on the way life is around you.

I have seen negligible number of old movies. I don’t know why i distanced myself from such wonderful movies. There is a such a fine characterization in this movie. The story is so balanced, acting is so refined and trained, realism so close to life that one hardly skips anything. Symbolism is pointed. And above all, women characters are not puppet. They reveal the weaknesses of their counterparts. And these weaknesses are those that the society give them in disguised forms.

The climax: Sapna crossed the road while he stopped. Waved at her and turned back home. When he came back, he had a coffe instead of tea. Everything is a metaphor hinting that he did not leave her wife.
