You have a great thing going here with this Miranda Series. Create a new "sub-series" with Miranda for Fall Backpacking/Camping/Hiking as well as one for Winter. Oh, ...and don't forget about the option of possibly using Alum as a flocculant in that pot, ...to settle out the silt/sediment and turbidity.
Thank you for mentioning hand cleanliness as an important factor. There have been a couple studies suggesting most cases of dysentery on the trail result from dirty hands (touching your water bottle or food leading to contamination) rather than impure water sources. All the filtering in the world will only get you so far if your hands are carrying the bacteria around.
I'm wondering exactly that. So how do we make sure we have clean hands? Do we have to sanitize our hands after washing our hands in untreated water? Or should we be washing our hands with treated water too?
Great content, as I'd expect from REI. However, you really should use a remote microphone on the presenter. Both vids I've seen had too much background noise that interferes with the narration.
I can boil water at a rolling boil for like 5 min and it should be fine right? but on the go during the day u recommend using a filtration system or purification tablets so I'm not using up my fuel for my jetboil? @REI
Good video but incorrect info right at the end. All pathogens are killed at 70C as water is brought to a boil therefore there is NO need to boil for any length of time, Just bringing to a boil is adequate. AND this goes for altitude also as even at 8000m water boils at a temp above 70C.
Miranda is great! Very clear presentation and wonderful approach and presence.
Good for you

I suspect REI cannot supply the most crucial element while camping, Miranda herself.
Hahahahahaha

Another great video! Clear, concise, and another nudge for me to get back into the backcountry! Thank you REI and Miranda.
good and helpful video, thanks Miranda

I use droppers that i mix then add to water, but i do not filter the water. Should I still be filtering in addition to the chlorinated drops?
I watched this at the actual store
What filter did you use, Miranda?
Do those straw filters work??????
agree. I would liked to have seen her actually drink it.
Life straw does.

CDC guidance is 1 minute
Microorganisms do not lay eggs.
I would drink that water straight from the source no filter.
