Hi Jessica 👋🏾 could you please do an african fat tail gecko care guide? On RUclips there's not much info on care. Everything is on leopard gecko 🥲 and you do really really really good cars guides 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Gosh I totally understand the cricket thing. I’ve got one leo and before I got her I went to a reptile shop for research (not to buy one, but I’d never actually seen one in person)… I heard the chirping and immediately went ‘Nah’. That turned into an ‘ABSOLUTELY NOT’ when I heard they smell. Luckily my little lady enjoys a juicy roach butt. 😅
Has you gecko had any issue so far being fed mostly dubia roaches ? Mine doesn't want to eat anything else but that! She's 11 month and got a harsh start in life (folicular stasis surgery) and I just got her. I read geckos fed only dubia roaches can have health issues , but maybe is it because the roaches were fed poorly?
No, she hasn’t had issues at all. I do feed locusts as well (so she doesn’t always eat the same thing, it’s part of her enrichment) and the veeeeeeeery occasional waxworm (she’s a good eater so gotta watch her weight). I would say it’s probably the gut loading or if they’re too big? My pet shops here only sell medium sized roaches and they’re too big for my girl, so I’ve got to order small ones online. The only thing my vet said once was that she wouldn’t recommend feeding mealworms to adults in larger quantities. They’re more of a juvenile food.
I wish my AFT would eat anything other than crickets. The previous owner I got them from said they refused all other food options and this holds true. They believed it was because of Petco, where the gecko originally came from and them only offering crickets. Have you ever heard of this before when it comes to rescues where they only want one food option? Also wanted to say how lovely your fat tails are. I remember when you had your original fat tail, was their name Oreo? Your newest fat tails are very lovely.
I have the same problem with my AFT and he isn't even from Petco. He was a little underweight when I rescued him and would eat a few meal worms out of desperation, but now he spits out anything but crickets.
All 4 of my geckos will eat any worm and usually are ok with crickets, but I struggle so hard getting them to eat dubias or black soldier fly larvae bc they hate them. It sucks those are the better diet options but my geckos just won’t eat them 🥲
My AFT shows no interest in any kind of worm,, I've tried mealworms hornworms and waxworms and she turns her nose up to them. The only insect she's eaten has been crickets, and dubia roaches are illegal where i live so i'm kinda stuck with only crickets. Do you have any advice for picky eaters?
Yes for sure! The main enclosure should not be super moist or humid so a humid hide is very helpful for geckos to have, which is especially important for them during a shed!
Hey Jessica! How many dubias do you usually feed your adult geckos per feeding? We just adopted a bell albino leopard gecko and I want to make sure we're feeding him enough but not over feeding either. Thank you! I love all of your videos
I feel you on the crickets. Unfortunately I have three very picky eaters n will only eat crickets live crickets, won't even eat dead insects. If you have ways I can get them away from crickets n Into other insects that would be great cuz I hate dealing with the crickets, they jump lol
Help! I just got in a tokay who is missing quite a few toes. I recall that you had taken on a crested gecko with the same issue. Can you PLEASE give me advice on the best way to set up a tank for my new friend? Right now he/she is in an enclosure that is pretty bare bones but has a humid hide to help with shed issues. I have gotten them to eat and they do have hides and fake foliage.
I recommend doing a little bit at a time to see how your tokay does. Offer a branch or a hanging plant or some textured upright surface and see how they do with those. If they do well, you can add more. If they only prefer one type of climbing enrichment, stick with that. I’ve found rune can climb decently well and every night sledge sleeps up high in a plant
@@JessicasAnimalFriends Thank you so much for the wonderful advice! Seems to be doing well on a slanted hide and a cling plant. So happy to hear that yours is moving about better than I expected. Just goes to show how amazing these animals are. Thank you again!❤

I kept crickets for a bit but they didn't really make noise (thankfully) but they sure as hell smelled 🤢

💜💜💜💜
Can fat tail eat caterpillars?
Like captive bred hornworms? Yes.
If I have lose substrate do I still need a humid hide

At what time of the day should they be feed? Wonder the same for Leopard geckos ☺️🙏🏼
Evening/night as they are a crepuscular species
@@JessicasAnimalFriends thank you for your answer ☺️🙏🏼 should it be when the lights are still on or after that? 🙂 (the terrarium lights)
