Fun Fact! Each cilinder colony, like the one that was dropped in the beginning, has the population density (and mass) of three average cities. Just imagine taking new york, multiplying it by 3, and throwing it at australia.
Not quite. One colony was only thrown at earth aimed at Jaburo but it missed and hit Australia instead. Now Gundam X is the one where the Zeon expy dropped a whole swarm of these all over the earth and successfully made the world go completely Mad Max.
@@nicodalusong149 even more not quite, the colony actually split into three parts in orbit and only the front section hit australia, not quite sure where some of the other parts landed though, if i had to guess one hit the ocean and one hit LA
@@nathanperquin9910 Well, after consulting some japanese lore videos, Island Iffish breaks into three parts. However, for OG First, it lands in Sydney, in the pacific ocean and an unspecified location in the north american continent. In The Origin, the last one specifically drops somewhere in Canada. Beyond that, the timing of the colony drop is different between OG and Origin. There's even a part two for Operation British where Zeon tried again (not too sure if it was stealing or dropping) with a colony from Side 5 but they were stopped.
Just a heads up, if you’re doing to cover Zeta Gundam which is the sequel series to this one, you should watch the Zeta series and not the compliation movies of it. The Zeta compilation movies changes the ending and it conflicts with the Universal Century timeline.
As I understand it, super robot shows at the time were all about heroes fighting monsters. They needed the opening to set the tone to a completely new, more grounded idea. It didn't do too well when first released cos no one was sure what to make of it. I think you can really feel the history of the creator, with all the na*i imagery associated with Zeon. Unfortunately I feel that damages later series a little when they're trying to 'both sides' the conflict more. "Any war crimes are appropriate." Evil Brady ~2023
@@eurobrady i would say that zeon isn't so much bad as they do have legitemate cause, but its the Zabi family leading them that is evil. its effectively that the leaders on both sides are terrible human beings. the soldiers are just people. the spacenoids from zeon want independance, their leadership decided to do it through horrendous war crimes
The Mobile Suit Gundam opening narration is iconic, played in many video games and shown in many side stories. It was less hand holding and more a way to get people up to speed who might have missed an episode in an era before VCR recording and home releases.
2:36:32 It's a very common trope in anime for the villains to me very pretty men; seductive, elusive, manipulative via their charms and so on. This isn't just a Gundam thing. It's a Japan thing. And I for one welcome our pretty-boy overlords
you should give 0080 and 0083 a go there short and direct follow ups. Zeta is 100% worth watching and is the best of all of Gundam. I WOUD LOVE to see you analyze Kamille or even watch Origin and do the same with young Char. i think you would love to see where Amuro goes in Zeta as well... and then finally in Char's Counterattack
Great counters in this one so far (I'm only halfway through... love an extremely long reaction to an already long movie) You mention The Origin manga-- it's gorgeous, and I highly recommend it. Fwiw, it was written as a retelling / entirely new take on the events of 0079 and leading up to it. I mention this because another commenter mentioned the OVAs as adding context and, well... I don't think anyone should go into Origin expecting a prequel, since it actively contradicts the original canon in places / has a different take on characterization for several characters. Char especially! I do like stealing individual bits of it for my personal canon, though. It has some fun ideas.
Oh interesting, I'll keep that in mind when we get to Origins. Seems like canon is a bit of a mess overall lol so I won't get too attached to it and just enjoy it for what it is.
Hi Riful, unfortunately the vod is no longer on twitch as they cannot be stored after a number of weeks and this stream is a bit older. I have been considering a better way to get the original recordings available for people but no system at the moment :(
You're probably watching the poorly received 2000 version. We recommend watching the original movie or the 2012 DVD. The BGM and sound effects are completely different.
I think Amuro and Frau are the type where if they tried dating, they'd decide that they were better off friends, especially if that happened during the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Also fun fact, toy sales actually killed the original series, it was originally planned for 50 episodes but that number ended up getting cut down because Clover made cheap low quality toys that weren't even remotely accurate to the actual series (Clover being the company that owned the publishing rights and toy line for Gundam before Bandai bought said copyright).
I'm enjoying your insight. It's a new angle for this show in particular that I've seen multiple times already. You're looking for romance? Well, I doubt you'll be reading the novels so I suppose it's okay to tell you Amuro does end up sleeping with both Frau and Sayla over the course of the story. Yes, in the story Frau is horny for Amuro (she once comes to his room in a trenchcoat wearing nothing underneath from what I remember). Also, all the characters are a bit older in the novels (for example, Amuro on the novels is 19 years old).
man glad to see witch from mercury reeling in more people to Gundam 79. It will be fun to see your takes on the plethora of stuff in the UC timeline.
Can't wait for him to get to z ... that's gonna be a ride ..
I’m waiting for Hathaway flash
