It's nice to see so many WW2 historians in the comment section. Guys, the Nazis designed a jetpack in blueprints in WW2 but it was obviously never deployed. This expansion is simply meant to showcase what WW2 would be like if such technology was actually invented and deployed during the war
Someday they will release an auntentic war simulator in wich the gameplay consist in cleaning your weapons, cleaning vehicles, tanks, mounting guard standing still for 8 hours doing nothing and so.
it was there first (add on) to their first game its kinda like the first dlc pack for MW2 everyone went ape shit over it because it was a first for them :P
Nah the jet fighter had its first flight in 1948 and it was later canceled. The stealth bomber was developt in the 40s but its first flight was in 1947.
Fun little history lesson for those who don't know. The reason the jetpack's in there is because america had something like putting infantry on flying platforms but the reason they didn't even go through with it is because if you shot the thing that lifted you in the air you'd plummet to your death. It turned infantry into bigger targets but it was likely too hard to code so they did jetpack. Really wish they coulda done anti-tank dogs. That woulda been funny.
This was a weird but super fun expansion pack. Not historically accurate in the slightest (except for the calliope and the sturmtiger) but clearly they took the idea of "what if all those crazy declassified designs actually went somewhere" and just went wild with it. Now I'm feeling nostalgic lol.
In my headcannon, this game takes place in a 'What-If' timeline. A fun idea. Basically, what if WW2 either lasted for much longer than it did in reality? Or what if the technology advanced much faster than normal. Thus giving us even the jetpack.
Yeah, when you pick up the jetpack you replace the weapons you originally had with the german weapons that come with the jetpack itself- you can't have the jetpack and the bazooka at the same time.
Oh, I dunno, having women in WW2 actually seems possible, despite it never happening, unlike the majority of tech here which wouldn't even be possible at the time.
Rose Supreme Actually, all of the tech here (except the jetpack, where did that come from) were designed, conceptualized or similar designs were made. Women also served during WWII, though as unlawful combatants, unlike how BFV and CoD:WW2 entailed.
Actually, the Germans really designed a Jetpack during WW2, it was called Himmerlsturmer , but it wasn't exactly meant to enable soldiers to fly, instead, it was supposed to make them jump further. But there was a problem: Fuel. The Jetpack used large amounts of oxygen and a propellant to generate trust, but a soldier could only carry a very limited amount of the propellant, so the flight time was minimal, and couldn't be increased. Also, there was still an issue with the oxygen, so, besides the fuel, and the jetpack itself, it was necessary to carry a tank of liquid oxygen. It didn't look like the one in the game, but still, it was a real thing, so I guess the game's still correct.
The Jetpack was a scrapped design by the Nazis in WWII. Technically, the design showcased floating PLATFORMS, but jet packs are still cool. Do yer’ research. :troll:
God this was my childhood game right here I remember my dad and I would play this all weekend with a rotation of the base maps, road to Rome, and this amazing expansion where we’d hijack the v2 from the German side!
And idiots always complain that the Battlefield series suppose to be heavy and serious. I'm pretty sure they weren't even born before BF1942. and the only Battlefield series they've ever played in their lives would be Battlefield 1
So BFV got T34 Calliope, Sturmtiger, PIAT(?), Flakpanzer. Missing those experimental jets and V2. That jetpack did went to Battlefield Heroes if I recall
it was kind of stupid that they added the flakpanzer IV whirblewind as a "secret weapon" when in reality the flakpanzer kugelblitz and flakpanzer coelian should have been added as those were prototypes.
I know many people trash on the jetpack, but as far as I know it was only in 3 maps, and it was still a lot of fun to use. Most of the things in this expansion were inaccurate. The XF-85, the AW52 and the Ho-229 never flew in combat, Sturmtigers were extremely rare and only saw a few engagements, and the Wasserfall rocket didn't have a camera feed, and it too never saw combat. Yes, the jetpack is pure fiction, but at this point it can be excused.
The reason for the expansion was because of what WW2 would've looked like had these vehicles and weapons were deployed in war beyond their prototype phase. There was a patent for an early jetpack that was thought up in 1919, but never was really built or tested.
@Cokecakepopcorn They most certainly was, the graphics were quite sick when this game arrived, at least for someone who grew up playing early version of cs 1.6 and doom.
Yes. You cant spawn with it though, its a kit that you can pick up in certain locations on some maps. And since Every battlefield game lets you pick up unly entire kitsn ot individual itesm you always gat an MP 40 and a pair fo grenades with it ,s o no bazooka like in the vid.
Today games are about realism, physics simulation and immersive graphics, not only graphics,i can actually shirnk all those into one "Atmosphere" when people dont have acceptable audiovisual immersion, people wont play it .... thats how it works today
Interestingly enough, the Germans actually did try to make jetpacks. More than a few poor chaps lost their legs to the intense exaust flames and so the project was scrapped.

It was relatively realistic till the jetpack...
Yes, but it was huge fun.
The Nazi's were making UFO's I'm pretty sure a jetpack was somewhere in the works.
Are you saying jetpacks are not realistic??? gizmodo.com/5524604/real-bloody-flying-nazi-soldiers-with-jet-packs

Whisper Bexley For the last part, how about no, dragging animals into the horror of human conflict is not good.
Theo Martin But Anti-Tank Dogs were used by the Soviets...
Jihadi Jesus Does it really matter who used them?
Theo Martin Nope, but it should have been added into this game.
Yes, however they commonly blew up their own tanks as they used Soviet tanks to train them (instead of german tanks), LOL.

" Battlefield 1: Secret Weapons of WWI "

The game is pretty much already that because of all the automatic rifles

The first plane is real (the small one) its called the xf85 goblin
But its first flight wasn't until 1948.
Jacob Hunter yes but theoritically the craft was ready by 1944 it just had not been built.
It was originally meant to be a bomber escort but the P-51s already did their job.
