So glad you liked the album!!! The story doesn’t end here, she has 2 more albums planned that will follow the stories of Ethel’s mother and paternal grandmother!! I think you’d love the bonus tracks from “Inbred” and her latest single “Famous Last Words (an Ode to Eaters)”❤❤❤
No artist in the last twenty years or so has touched me as much as Ethel Cain. Preacher's Daughter is a Southern Gothic epic, unique and with so many layers it demands repeated listening. Inbred, her 2022 EP is well worth a listen, with God's Country a highlight. Go well and be happy :)
27:40 “my genius page is a lawless wasteland full of lies and deception and i truly dont know what the hell they're talking abt on there” - Ethel’s own words😭😭
@@headinthewall that was apparently in reference to genius adding like unlisted songs and stuff that she has never talked about. The actual story that is told in the genius lyrics for this album is stuff that Ethel confirmed herself on her Tumblr about the songs in this album.
One of my personal 10/10 albums - artistry of song-writing and story-telling perfectly blended. Bleak and beautiful in equal measure - so happy you listened to this.
Ethel literally just dropped her cover of “For Sure” as part of the 25th anniversary re-release of American Football’s debut album please you need to hear this my mind is disintegrating as I type this it’s so beautiful😭😭
Sun Bleached Flies is probably my favorite off the album. The references and imagery to past motifs present in the prior tracks on the album is incredible. Gives me chills!
Ethel its so cool and kind person too, i suggest u to see her funny videos in RUclips and her ASMR’s in her channel too. Can’t wait for your next reactions of her projects.
OMGGG FINALLYYYY AND I KNEW YOU WOULD LIKE THIS ALBUM A LOT MORE. Thank you for being patient with us and make this reaction i looove your reactions and im so happy thats Preachers Daughter its finally here.💕
i was at 4am with nothing to do, and then your video appeared to me and i was like “why not listen to this album?”. i’ve never heard about ethel before today, but the experience of listening to this was magical and made me feel like i had been waiting to listen something like this for too long
'Thoroughfare' is my favourite one off the album. It's one of my favourite songs in general. I love the crescendo by the end. How it rises and falls and takes you along with them. It's the happiest song from 'Preacher's Daughter'. I love it so much.
It wouldnt be too far a stretch if she did do some more metal tracks. She's good friends with Kris Esfandiari of King Woman and they did a show together this past year
i loved ur reaction omgggg so glad u enjoyed it, i recommend listening to golden age by ethel cain, its an ep before inbred and its really depressing but its beautiful i swear xx
My experience with this album is the same that u describe in the end of the video, I listen to this sometimes, I really have to be in the mood but I love so much Preacher's Daugther, idk but this album transports me to another place and time, its like I’m seeing a movie in my head and I never feel this with another album, music or artist.
This album its really deep, emotional and have so many things happening and takes time to proccess this whole experience and story, to me happened this way until before turning my favorite album of all time.
The story does come from Ethel. I think she thought about making it a film. The whole story is not captured in the lyrics alone. The songs are like snapshots which are part of a larger story. That’s why she wrote it out to share with fans…
@@ashlenamusic The story is told by “Ethel Cain,” a fictional character or persona created by Hayden for this project. There is a pdf people refer to for the main story (I think it was written by Hayden/Ethel?). drive.google.com/file/d/1iC5cGPG2-wgMMlw08k_3x1v9EAzmtFT-/view
I have listened to this album every day for the last two months non stop, even at work. No one understands my pain about life like Ethel Cain does. All my pain feels like it could be taken by her and washed away by love itself.
I’m normally annoyed by the “ugh, these songs are long,” (reminds me of when people complain about a movie being in black & white/is old,) BUT, in this instance, I actually agree, I kind of wish the end of “Thoroughfare” was an interlude. Atleast six of my Top 15 albums are concept albums, the most seminal of which in regards to the “genre” of the concept album is Pink Floyd’s The Wall. I feel that the line between the concept album and the rock opera is best described by comparing The Who’s Tommy & Pink Floyd’s The Wall. (The other four being The Mars Volta, Frances The Mute; The Killers, Sam’s Town; Cursive, The Ugly Organ; Circle Takes The Square, As The Roots Undo.) It is unfortunate that it really feels like you need to be making a concept album, whether conceptual or narrative, in order to make an album that is more than just a collection of songs these days 😕
You should really check out the mornings, queen of the murder scene. Also, I totally get it. I actually don’t mind when songs are long. I listen to a lot of sleep token and their songs are pretty long, but I feel like a lot of her songs just drag out a lot and would totally serve best as interludes.
Lmao we think we know the story based off of Genius, and little nuggets of info Hayden has provided, but no one really knows what’s going on. Hayden plans to write three books and have 3 movies for the…Daughters of Cain Universe(?). In actuality Ethel II(the one Preacher’s Daughter is about) is a very small part of the story. Hayden says the story is really about the paternal grandmother: Ethel Cain and apparently hers is the real horror story. Which is kinda crazy considering how this one went. It’s about intergenerational trauma and how it all began and will end with the Grandmother.
Yeah, there are snippets from Haydens tumblr about the songs within the genius lyrics notations. So quite a bit of it is fully confirmed... More so than most other artists confirm about their lyrics meanings IMO. But yeah, some of it is theory like can happen with genius lyrics.

I’ll definitely have to check those out
I saw in Spotify inbred 2 snippet it is amazing but not completed
@@ashlenamusic Please do Famous Last Words you’re gonna love it!!
fun fact! ethel said in a livestream that sun bleached flies is the ending and strangers is like the credits ;)
OK, that’s kind of cute

Show us on the doll where Ethel touched you. It's okay, you're safe now.

For real though I need to listen to her because she killed thick skull on Paramore’s album
I definitely won’t do a full album reaction until I hear a song or two. Any requests?

Glad you enjoyed PD!! Whenever you have the time, pls check out her ep "Golden Age" I feel like Knuckle Velvet will be something right up your alley
She is an amazing artist and agree the album is dark and requires a recovery period. She is still so talented.
Still recovering

Concept albums are like that. You should listening to Queen of the murder scene by The Warning. It’s an epic concept album
